Just been chatting to my dad about modern football terminology. The one phrase we both loathe is, he's won a foul or even worse, a penalty. Maybe I'm a dinosaur but want do these phrases mean? To me it says he's dived or is looking for the decision. Neither one commendable in my eyes.

Agree0 Disagree0

I get where you are coming from but if you bypass a player with great skill or pace and they bring you dow, as it's the only way to stop you then is this not free kick/ pen not "won" by this superior skill?

Blue. It's the terminology and I should have have included, there was contact, that includes everything from taking boy out completely down to, he ruffled my hair as I passed him. Know what you're saying mate. Just annoys me, it supposedly being a contact sport.

Alex Rae’s commentary 2 mins in, “ they’ve started on the front foot” cringeworthy.

I totally agree with Parlane re. winning free kick or penalty.
Opposition CONCEDES it. Only way to win one is to CON or CHEAT.
I wrote on the same topic recently and Herewego disagreed.
Blue genius penalty or free kick is conceded in the situation you described.
All the best to you all and bring on 56.

Agree with you there parlane, I think it's just poor/ lazy commentating.

I’d go for winning penalties every game, don’t care about phrasing……. my opinion.

Everybody entitled to an opinion, bit in mine you can 100% win a foul for your team or a penalty. Watch alfredo, he wins us fouls all day by getting his body in between defender and the ball, thatscwinning your team a free kick all day long imo.

Concede not win.
