Looks like we have been linked to another left back in Gijs Smal who is a free agent in the summer i don't know much about him a part from he is playing for Twente is holland.

Ibroxstorm

1.) 07 Jan 2024 11:18:31
Stats look good this was in the papers yday
Sounds like the type of players we can/ should be going for
Looks a good calibre signing and out of contract in the summer so fee shouldn’t be too high if we get him now.

2.) 07 Jan 2024 11:22:10
Nicknamed Smaldini and valued at 6m euros. Seems to be better defensively than offensively from what I've seen on scout pages etc on X.

Not seen anything of the man myself though.

3.) 07 Jan 2024 11:57:52
To be honest, he looks like a younger, more physical borna. he's defensively better, but can stil whip a cross. He seems like a decent evolution should borna go. Be nice if we went a but younger but you’re paying for potential if they're already proven eh.

4.) 07 Jan 2024 12:04:19
He was linked a month of so ago on follow follow, somebody saying they were in the know and he’s a target.

Not seen the lad play but he seems to have a strong reputation.

5.) 07 Jan 2024 12:26:52
Hes an offensive fullback, he plays high and wide, good on the ball, good at picking passes, there was a good scout report on him recently, we have been linked a number of times to him, bit like yilmaz in the that he can come in field and also like borna in that he has a good cross. Like all other players if they sign, no gaurantee they take to the crazy nature of hoofball in scotland.

6.) 07 Jan 2024 13:33:33
Hi thought he was attacking full back am sure I read 16 assists last season may not be true tho.

7.) 07 Jan 2024 13:58:49
Coplandbear i would hope with playing in holland devision 1 last season he would cope in hoofball.

8.) 07 Jan 2024 16:29:27
He bares zero to Maldini, clearly made up name for a joke.
Maldini was one of the best CB's in the history of football

Smal is a quality attacking LB, has scored some absolute screamers over the last few years and regularly contributes with assists and goals.
In his prime.

I would like us to sign Smal LB, Oppegard LB, Manhoef RW/ LW.
Clement and Koppen seem keen on players in the Eredivisie.

Wouldn't bother Doig, Mckenna or Shankland none of them are good enough for europe, if we eventually want be a serious team again in the Champions league and feared and respected in that competition like we once were, we will need far higher quality players than that.

9.) 07 Jan 2024 16:31:40
Gils smal rumour been posted at least 5 times in the last day on here. Does no one thibk to read down the page.

10.) 07 Jan 2024 17:21:33
Maldini was also one of the best LBs in the history nevermind CB.

11.) 07 Jan 2024 21:50:05
Clement and koppen or scouting work from when we recently had a Dutch manager think about it.

Danilo
Dessers
Lammers

Now

Smal
Manhoff
Oppegard

All former or current Dutch league ?.

Just seen the 5 candidates for the DOF role who are most likely be interviewed are below, the only one on that list i would not take would be Dougie Freeman.

Dougie Freedman
David Weir
Sam Jewell
Paul Mitchell
Carlos Bocanegra

Has anyone heard when the role will be filled and who the fav is for the role.

Ibroxstorm

1.) 25 Oct 2023 09:41:33
Can't comment on freedman.

Would steer clear of bocanegra, he's a disaster.

2.) 25 Oct 2023 10:20:57
Weir, Jewell, Mitchell no chance, James Bisgrove was talking last week in terms of weeks or even months before an appointment is made that to me suggests that the club is nowhere near even attracting a suitable candidate.

3.) 25 Oct 2023 10:25:43
Bocanegra has rejected us already, did not want to attend interview

Jewell was at ibrand auchenhowie

Mitchell going to Man U with ratcliffe.

Hearing noth Re freedman

Nerlinger name still being bandied around

Also believe me weir won’t leave his family.

4.) 25 Oct 2023 10:26:03
So if you take Freeman and Bocanegra out, Jewell apparently has turned us down already and DW has a dream job at Brighton.
Doesnt leave much!

5.) 25 Oct 2023 10:27:33
I don't know anything about Freedman or Bocanegra, but Weir, Jewell and Mitchell show that the club are definitely pursuing the right calibre of people.

6.) 25 Oct 2023 11:15:19
What about the Nottingham Forest DOF he’s not bad ?.

7.) 25 Oct 2023 11:53:13
Lazy journalism on the DR site!

Trust me, they would be the last to know anything that's going on inside Ibrox - they are just appalling!

Dougie Freedman? They've probably put 2 and 2 together on that one because Dougie is a Rangers fan, and made 7! The rest of the names have been on here, and other Rangers forums, for ages now, so they have probably lifted the names of there.

Honestly, no Rangers fan should ever believe what is in that rag!

8.) 25 Oct 2023 12:17:14
ZERO chance of Mitchell coming. That info is from people with no clue in footballl. Would be the equivalent of us signing Mbappe.

9.) 25 Oct 2023 12:17:54
This isn`t a list of THE 5 candidates for the DOF job, this is a list put together by the Daily Record, no doubt based on rumours they have heard and nothing more.

10.) 25 Oct 2023 13:26:26
I don’t know much about this sort of stuff as I just like watching the football, but who do you guys think would be the best person for this role?

11.) 25 Oct 2023 13:55:31
Cool Wsl. I thought someone had the inside track.

12.) 25 oct 2023 14:11:21
met bocanegra when the us womens team were at the based in glasgow yrs ago i was not impressed by him one little bit, came across as arrogant, aloof and unlikeable guy, , no idea why you would know how good or bad freedman is, but its a typical reaction to anyone scottish, don't want him, if he happens to be scottish and a rangers fan, shoot him.

13.) 25 oct 2023 14:47:54
strangely freedman is probably the only one gettable, anyone know hows he's doing these days?

14.) 25 Oct 2023 16:02:18
He's the sporting director at C Palace, Tom. If another doesn't know, he's also a very intelligent guy, who could do the job for us.

15.) 25 Oct 2023 16:57:09
***that should have said 'If anyone doesn't know'***.

16.) 25 Oct 2023 19:22:11
From that list Weir is the standout candidate.

17.) 25 oct 2023 19:22:22
well if he's employed in the epl he must know something, great wee goalscorer in his time.

18.) 25 Oct 2023 21:03:34
I grew up with Dougie and we played all of our youth football together until he went down to QPR on trial around 1990 when we were 16 ish.

He was actually a midfielder but when he turned pro he got moved up front.

Not the most academic (none of us were) but you don't have a playing career like he has and hold a role like he has at Palace without having something about you. didn't he hold an admin role at forrest as well?

19.) 25 Oct 2023 21:07:52
Weir won't leave Brighton it's obviously proving difficult to attach suitable candidates, Jewell apparently turned the job down instantly saying for what Rangers are willing to pay for a DOF it's not worth the headaches.

20.) 26 Oct 2023 07:53:35
Greeley. Jewell on 2k a week at brighton.

21.) 26 Oct 2023 11:24:57
Im mentioned that I had heard Freedman's name mentioned last week and John kindly confirmed that he had been interviewed previously and personally having spoke with Palace Fans, I reckon that he would be a good appointment but would he leave Palace for rangers.
As regards Jewell, I really wouldn't discount him as Manny are writing him off. He is on a quite low salary and assuming that he is ambitious he will not want to be an understudy to Weir for ever and personally I can't see Weir leaving Brighton any time soon.
So, unless we are going to pull a rabbit out of a hat with one of the better International DoF's I would suggest that Jewel is definitely a contender that could say yes!

22.) 26 Oct 2023 13:17:59
I think Freedman’s been there for a few years and they seem to be doing well during that time.

23.) 26 Oct 2023 13:50:20
John anymore updates on appointing a DOF?

24.) 26 Oct 2023 13:46:45
Hope its paul mitchell, seems to have all the credentials for a great appointment.

25.) 26 Oct 2023 13:58:37
Too many clueless chiefs not enough of the relevant Indians.

26.) 26 Oct 2023 16:10:05
My personal top 2 choices for our director of football job would be paul mitchell or big davie weir, in that order, but hand on heart here guys, i very much doubt we'll get any of those two ?Looks like mitchell might well be going to man utd and big davie weir i can't see leaving a superbly run club from top to bottom in brighton ?.

27.) 26 Oct 2023 16:50:19
Mitchell recently bought a house in Manchester.

Doesn’t guarantee anything but if he bought one in Glasgow for example?

28.) 27 Oct 2023 03:29:42
I don’t have any info on who we’re looking at for DOF.

From what I remember from a while ago whatever club Bocanegra was at (maybe Atlanta) the fans were calling him useless and calling for head, so I wouldn’t think the club are looking at him.

I have mutual friends of Weir and they are of the opinion that he absolutely still loves our club and supports us but he wouldn’t be in a hurry to come work here again after his experience of being sacked with Warburton.

Especially when he’s a valued member of staff at Brighton there is some bad feeling there on how things are done (and yes I’m very aware the board has changed since then) .

29.) 27 Oct 2023 06:29:06
I should add by the way for full clarification.

This info I was told about Weir wasn’t recent, was around the time of our Europa League run under Gio (was also not a conversation based on any concrete info of Weir returning just hypothetically at the time) .

So things could’ve very much changed on Weir’s end in that time but just sharing that info I was told.

11 Oct 2023 12:14:09
Heard that Kevin Muscat was the top target for the role but he was not willing to come until his contract was up in december which is why the board moved to PC.

From what i have heard PC has been offered a 4 year contract and he is now talking it over with his family.

Ibroxstorm

1.) 11 Oct 2023 13:07:03
I don’t believe that at all because if we thought he was the 100% correct man for the job you wait till dec.

2.) 11 oct 2023 15:58:42
waiting til jan we could be out of everything and lost millions, we need a new boss this week.

3.) 11 Oct 2023 16:39:31
That’s just wrong really though isn’t it?

League cup - in semi finals, league - done probably,
Scottish cup - are we getting knocked out in 3rd/ 4th round? Europa League - let’s facit, it’s just a bonus as we are never good enough to do what we did a few years ago!

4.) 11 Oct 2023 16:50:42
If we believed Muscat was the right man then waiting till December is a no brainer, certain things can be implemented before his arrival, why go for the second choice and be back to square one 6 months down the line, yes it might work out the opposite and second choice becomes the right choice, ps I would be happy with either.

5.) 11 Oct 2023 16:55:59
Agree Tom, I think it would be madness to wait till December when we can still win the league. By that time it may be over if we stick with the current set up.

6.) 11 Oct 2023 17:09:25
Tom, totally agree, we can't wait till January.

7.) 11 Oct 2023 17:27:39
If we are to wait until January, and there is a lot of logic in doing that if Muscat is the manager that everyone wants, then we need to be bringing in a DoF now that can work on getting the requisite players that the manager wants so that we can secure as many as possible in January.
I'm not so down beat in terms of our ability to win the League Cup, progress in the Scottish Cup and potentially sneak a qualification for the later rounds in Europe as some are.
I certainly wouldn't underestimate Davis ability to get more out of some of these players and to actually have a game plan that his predecessor didn't have.

8.) 11 Oct 2023 18:36:59
Was this not already reported to be nonsense about muscat wanting to stay until December.

07 Oct 2023 16:01:31
From what i have heard the list off people into the second stage interview are below there is also 2 people that have not been named.

Oliver Glasner
Kevin Muscat
Philippe Clement
Pascal Jansen

I have also been told that they are also interviewing for a DOF once the manager is selected depending on who the manager would like in that role.

Ibroxstorm

1.) 07 Oct 2023 16:13:27
A Manager doesn't pick the DoF. That's like picking your boss.

2.) 07 Oct 2023 16:21:15
Inroad no way a manager selects a dof.

3.) 07 Oct 2023 16:27:29
Someone is feeding you nonsense. Doesn’t work that way.

4.) 07 Oct 2023 16:32:33
The board need to make all the appointments. From top to bottom their should be interviews, due diligence, etc. Move away from this ‘jobs for the boys’ attitude that has been at our club for far too long.

The club don’t need a manager, they need a head coach. There should be a consistent vision for the club that carries on even in the event of a head coach being replaced. The DoF should be singing players Based on information provided by the scouts. There should be a backroom staff that is consistent and doesn’t need gutted constantly. I understand every manager wants their own coaches but that should be limited in numbers. In short, the club needs to be run properly.

This constant ripping everything up and starting again isn’t working. In fact, it does more harm than good. We need to put something in place and stick with it. However, I’m not sure our fans are ever going to accept that which is a big problem.

5.) 07 Oct 2023 17:08:51
Jobs for the boys? You mean like what MB was? A novice manager getting the rangers job was ridiculous.

6.) 07 Oct 2023 17:25:46
In a strange way I can see the next manager having a say in who the DOF is. The manager is the most important piece out the 2 so makes no sense in a manager getting lumped with a guy he can't work with.

7.) 07 Oct 2023 17:54:56
I just hope either way they get this right, I think Beale was a decent coach as Gerrard said but he certainly is not a manager and even less so a DOF but he wanted all jobs, the board need to have a look at themselves as well, I know and understand their plan to bring in players who can be developed and sold on for profit But to do that we need a strong team to help these players develop and not eight or nine at a time our senior players have been terrible and the summer signing have been terrible bar one or two hence the position we are in, we need a good manager in a good DOF we need to build a winning team that will take investment not balancing the books proper investment as Celtic will spend again, I read about expanding the stadium and about waiting lists that's all it is a list if the product on the park is not winning not exciting that list will dwindle and so will the crowds, we are in a very difficult position I think this season may already be gone I hope not but we need to get a product on the park that the fans enjoy and a team the fans can get behind no more of the rubbish we have been served up so it’s over to you the board now fingers crossed.

8.) 07 Oct 2023 18:26:18
The manager doesn’t choose the DOF.
The DOF should be advising the board with regards the candidates to be first team coach or manager with the board having the final say on the appointment.
As we don’t have a DOF at the moment it will be the board’s responsibility to source and choose both.

9.) 07 Oct 2023 19:48:58
Good post Verdant - you may be green but that is a very sensible argument ?.

10.) 07 Oct 2023 20:23:50
1872 if it sensible post then it’s his 1st in about a month.

11.) 07 Oct 2023 20:31:38
Lets remember that appointing a dof doesn't promise continuity. Especially if we hold up "get him out" posters of him like we did with the last one. Not criticism of fans, as the transfer business was awful during his tenure, just an observation.

12.) 08 Oct 2023 06:24:41
So you agree with me again, Paul? Thanks ?.

13.) 08 Oct 2023 16:33:54
Jansen is far too complicated for many on here to able to spell his name . Maybe we could find a Mr Smiff or get Martindale who can't pronounce "TH " wiff anyfing .

Martindale or McInnes? don't rule out anything with this board of imposters and chancers .

26 Sep 2023 08:58:46
With our injury list growing does anyone know if Beale will be looking at any of the free agents wtill out there as we could find a few Gems like Andros Townsend or Jean-Philippe Gbamin who would add a lot to our team and bet there is a few other experiaced players as well.

Ibroxstorm

1.) 26 Sep 2023 10:53:33
Don't think our injury problems are that severe at the moment, we've still a decent sized squad bit think in the middle of the park but they guys aren't long term s.

2.) 26 Sep 2023 12:46:20
We have 5 players missing middle to front which shouldn`t be a problem except the ones that are still fit are hopeless. We are short of wide players even if Matondo wasn`t injured so bringing in a winger like Townsend may not be a bad idea if he is fit enough to get involved right away and doesn`t need weeks to get up to speed.

3.) 26 Sep 2023 15:24:05
Think the loan window is still open so maybe go down that route for a short term fix if required but wouldn’t expect us to sign any more permanent deals on a Bosman.

4.) 26 Sep 2023 17:39:08
The loan window is not open it shut the same day as transfers window a loan is a transfer.

5.) 29 Sep 2023 14:04:30
Free agents are ok to sign .

6.) 29 Sep 2023 20:30:53
Free agents are ok to sign as long as not played for 2 clubs already.

Does anyone know who the trialist was that appeared on the bench for the resevere team and how they preformed.

Ibroxstorm

1.) 23 Oct 2023 08:46:30
No name, he came on at half time and played 25 minutes, done well.

2.) 23 Oct 2023 13:53:05
John what was the players position mate.

3.) 23 Oct 2023 15:43:51
Why don't we get reserve games on rangers TV anymore?

Wouldn't care if it wasn't live but would be good to keep an eye on the young players.

4.) 23 Oct 2023 18:45:52
Clint Eastwood, the man with no name.

08 Oct 2023 17:16:53
Anyone know if we have a option to bring back Ianis Hagi and Alex Lowry
From the loans early As i feel these are the kind of attack players we are missing.

Ibroxstorm

1.) 08 Oct 2023 17:21:24
Better where they are for now, were not in a good place at the moment and we also have danilo cantwell Lawrence dowell all to come back can't play them all.

2.) 08 Oct 2023 17:28:40
Defo lowrt in Jan, not sure with hagi.

3.) 08 Oct 2023 17:29:22
Tbh a would keep them where they are, we will have cantwell and Lawrence for they positions and you have young Lovelace and mclausland Loki g like they can step up, unless we are offloading dessers and lammers then maybe.

4.) 08 Oct 2023 17:36:55
Hagi we don’t and Lowry a would leave him we’re he is to develop.

5.) 08 Oct 2023 17:38:37
Ibrox, January is the earliest they can be recalled .

6.) 08 Oct 2023 17:50:28
Leave them let them play the game no manager different doing subs at 87 mins should be band play duds tho 2-0 sub time simple ****in 10 ten.

7.) 08 Oct 2023 18:07:38
Crazy post?

8.) 08 Oct 2023 18:09:02
Can anyone translate this. Ended up with a migraine after reading this.

9.) 08 Oct 2023 18:18:48
Pardon.

10.) 08 Oct 2023 18:27:05
Very funny ???.

11.) 08 Oct 2023 18:52:45
Knowing our luck they would both come back and get injured.

12.) 08 Oct 2023 19:01:57
Herewego WTF.

13.) 08 Oct 2023 19:28:36
Lowry- we have an option to recall him from his loan spell in January.

14.) 08 Oct 2023 20:05:28
Lowry is better staying where he is.

02 Oct 2023 17:37:38
So with all the injuries we have and also a new coach in charge i wonder what the starting line up will be against Aris Limassol on thursday.

Ibroxstorm

1.) 02 Oct 2023 17:51:24
Nearly the same as Saturday unfortunately.

2.) 02 oct 2023 18:10:22
it will be all about the shape and tactics, not the players, and davis knows what a good midfield should look and act like, as does rae.

3.) 02 Oct 2023 18:36:03
Love Alex Rae.

06 Sep 2023 20:17:43
I wonder if there is any truth in the rumour that beale is still looking for a winger and a name that keeps coming up is free agent Anwar El Ghazi who he worked with at Villa.

I would love to see this romour be true as he is a great attacking winger.

Ibroxstorm

1.) 06 Sep 2023 20:34:39
That great he is still a free agent.

2.) 06 Sep 2023 20:49:48
Another plater who was great 4 years ago. Good thing is Beale has probably scouted him.

3.) 06 Sep 2023 21:24:02
It's not a rumour it's click bate.

4.) 06 Sep 2023 21:39:09
OT, because he's a free agent doesn't mean he's not a good player or could be a good signing for us ?.

5.) 06 Sep 2023 21:52:22
I think I'd rather we concentrated on trying to get the best out of the ten forward players we have at the club!

6.) 06 Sep 2023 22:01:32
Talk in Brum he maybe going back to Aston Vile . Don’t think Gers could afford his wages.

07 Aug 2023 08:51:34
Number 56 is still coming the last time we lost the opening league game was the 1998/ 99 season and we went on to win the league.

I can see our signing coming good and scoring goals they just need to gel as they have only had a few games and also our main signing did not play.

I think we need just one more signing and that is a CB.

Ibroxstorm

1.) 07 Aug 2023 09:07:26
Good post Ibrox and a lot of valid points. I fear you may be rag dolled a bit but good for you for being positive. It could well pan out the way you have described. Really hope it does.

2.) 07 Aug 2023 09:13:59
I really hope so because the performance on Saturday was so bad it just looked like vintage Gio. All the talk about the brilliant recruitment just evaporated it was an almighty let down. The idea that slowly moving the ball around the pitch will enable us to create chances against packed defences is absurd, Kilmarnock couldn’t believe their luck the way we played is exactly how they wanted us to play. Thought I would have calmed down by now but still as disappointed.

3.) 07 Aug 2023 09:57:33
We desperately need some pace we've three guys with pace sakala and Wright are for the off and matondo will be selling us pies if he's not off aswell because he isn't a footballer.

We might need a striker in if romours are true of Desser getting intrested from 2 seria A teams. As if he leaves it just gives us Silva.

The intresting thing about Mohamed Diomande is if you look on wikipedia it says that he was born in possil glasgow so unless there is a possil in the ivory coast he could be scottish.

I would take van der Veen as we know he can score 20+ goals a season in scotland and if we can not get shankland would be a great option.

Also saw in the papers this morning that L. Dykes is link with celtic.

Strummer i hope this is true as cha Adams is a strong goal scoring striker who can either play as a loan striker or play behind the striker and link up with other players.
