See there is the thing Morellos 42 goals in 1st two seasons and Dessers has 48 yet we haven't replaced Morellos quality. I keep hearing a striker is judged by his goals unless his name is Dessers. at least he is on the pitch to help the team when he plays. how many needless red cards did Alfie get?

Star we are all allowed an opinion. I liked Morellos as well and on his day he was almost unplayable but he didn't have them as regularly as I wanted and found him frustrating. also you were always wondering if today was going to be another red card day and those always cost us. I know Dessers isn't world class but he puts in the effort, scores the goals and I don't think he gets enough credit from too many. Let us see how Iga and, if we sign him this new player gets on. hopefully gets as many as both Alfie and Cyriel.

I really like Dessers too and i did like Morelos. Morelos did more for the team, linking up play etc but attitude let him down which was really disappointing. Hopefully he reflects on his past but doubt it. The way he used to bully defenders was sublime.

Dessers is a great striker
Folk that say he ain't are in la la land
So he misses chances all great strikers do
His work rate, n quality in getting into position's to score is great
His work rate n ehthic are also great
Some fans are just never happy with certain players n never will be
I for one would like him to stay
Along with raskin n build a team around them both as they are both great players.

Morelos was over-rated in my view, yes he scored goals but he missed just as many. Too many think he was so good because of his fiery temperament which is exactly what has held him back. Decent goalscorer but nothing more than that. History will show Dessers scored more goals than him anyway and that speaks volumes. I know nothing of this kid being monitored, but if he shows commitment and scores goals then we can't go wrong with him. Same with Shankland really.

Give me naismith, miller, jelavic types over morelos or dessers all day long. Not as many goals but far better team players. Wasnt a huge fan of morelos but he was better than dessers that ones easy.

We do need a 9 that can be physical with defenders and drag them out of position the way morelos did, imo we have Iga who can do that but we need to strengthen the forward line even if dessers stays.

DTB I think what will happen is whoever we sign will miss chances as that is what strikers do. they will miss chances that are difficult and fans will think they are sitters. they will miss chances which are sitters as well mind you. what we need is a striker who scores in excess of 20, two wide players who get double figures and midfield and some defenders who get into the 5s. we down have that enough at the moment from players further back.

Got to say I've been Dessers biggest critic but have saw an improvement in his finishing lately, his goals tally is more than decent, that said to be at a better level we need a more all round striker if we persist with playing one up top. Still think we need more aggression up there and someone who can make the ball stick with good movement.
I wouldn't be against him staying as let's say with a new striker and Igmane as you need cover over the season, but at his age he may not want to be on the bench and could prefer a move.
Morelos on his day could do both but as someone pointed out he fell off a cliff and his discipline was poor.
Got to praise Dessers attitude as well recently he's showed a lot of maturity.

Angus I respect that you don't look past his goals but if you watch our games majority of the time he should be an out ball and he dosent show for it or run the channels, yes it's not his game but we need a striker that can do that part also and can hold it in and be aggressive when needed.
We would dominate the ball more as well if it sticks up top, that's where the criticism comes from not his goals.
You never know a new head coach might be willing to look past that if he scores goals over a season or he would prefer a more all round striker for the team.

Morelos probably missed as many big chances as dessers but over all what he brung to the team was different level to Dessers. No slight to Dessers either as when both look back Dessers will have had a far better career, Alfie threw his talent away.

Rosevale I will answer but why is it that when people dint agree they start of with the 'if you watch most of our games' I actually watch them all and watch off the ball as well as on it. so I do see him run channels though and people moan about how he falls to ground when touched (not all the time) when he is running against a defender on those channel runs. a good few of his goals are in. channels in the box, goal against Celtic being an example so it isn't that he doesn't make those runs.
we just didn't have a player who threads those balls through for that and turn back all the time or play it wide. recently we have had a few but those are recent
what he wasn't great at was holding the ball up with back to goal. however partly as it was at head height and there wasn't anyone within 30 feet of him. amazing how people can watch the same game but see different things. BTW I agree we might want better than Dessers and I can see his faults but he does more than people say.

Dessers' finishing has improved lately? He missed 3 decent headed chances on Sunday, one from under the bar that he actually cleared and he got caught offside again to get another ruled out. That is a 25% conversion rate at best. He also missed a glorious chance in the OF game when he miskicked the ball from 10 yds out.
Morelos' link up play, physicality and over all presence was miles better than Dessers and the only thing he is better at is keeping his temper. He has scored 48 goals but it should be closer to double that just on easy chances he has missed.

So using your conversion rate as a way to say he is poor. do you know that Haaland's rate is 18.8 and Salahs is 17%. yes EPL but they still get the chances and miss them. so if Haaland took all the easy chances he got would he be on double that as well?
the offside pass wasn't to him, it was to Cerny I think who dummied it to leave Dessers offside and his offsides are normally big toe sort of distance and difficult for anyone to judge accurately. this is why Wenger is asking for the rule to be changed as it disadvantages the forward player.
OF game the ball is coming from out wide and slightly behind him. one of the most difficult skills in the game to get right. as I say fans saying it is a sitter when it isn't.

Some of our fans expect our strikers to be banging them in like haaland n scoring every time they are in front of goal
Realistically football doesn't work. like that n we have to many armchair critics
Dessers gets to much stick
N there ain't such thing as a perfect striker who can do it all
They all have flaws a somesort
N as close to perfect as some are
Comes with a price tag we will never meet.

Can't believe we are comparing Dessers with Morelos here. Yes he has a better scoring record, but I watched Morelos almost single handedly drag us through games, especially his goalscoring record in europe against pretty much any team we went up against. The only attribute i'd have swapped for dessers is attitude.

Dessers gets in great positions consistently, fair enough but his finishing is shocking.
Rarely does Dessers score a meaningful goal.
No point being always available and healthy and all smiles when you can't score sitters and celebrate draws against the dross in this league.
I said it at the start of the season, we will won nothing with Dessers as our main striker. And i was proved right months ago.
