Some of you will know that I have been involved with professional football due to my employment roles. Most recently helping young players who were being released from clubs to find employment etc. My current employment role sees me involved with football again albeit via physiotherapy.
Without giving too much away, the chat I've been hearing is that when we hired RM, the board couldn't get who they wanted so they brought RM in knowing that he would be an interim whilst the team was rebuilt.
They were content to wait on their preferred candidate becoming available and I'm led to believe that we have reached that point. Hopefully all becomes clear in next few weeks. Not all doom and gloom, something to keep in mind, whilst the 49ers may be patient be under no illusion. they are ruthless and will be when the time comes. Cheers. Mon the Gers.

Thanks for the insight and for offering some much needed hope for a brighter future! I am starting to feel a little bad for Martin on a personal level, but hope for everyone's sake, his included that he is moved on asap.
30 Aug 2025 12:42:42
Ok mate cheers for that but why give him a 3 year deal then? Or keep Ferguson and co?
30 Aug 2025 12:39:30
So you're saying the club employed RM, let him sell and buy whoever he wants, all in the hope that Jose mourinho becomes available? But gave RM a long term contract anyway? Sounds a bit far fetched for me.
30 Aug 2025 12:40:16
Mourinho just became available is that who you think that have wanted? Certainly tactically a very clever man, would we pay him the money he would want
Is there someone else just became available?
30 Aug 2025 12:44:17
It's obvious they are ruthless; 3 managers one season at Leeds.
30 Aug 2025 12:47:05
Otters, good info, Martin was allegedly a short term appointment.
This is why I said some wanted fergie till Xmas.
30 Aug 2025 12:48:22
Why so long a contract though, Ottersocket?
30 Aug 2025 12:52:39
If that's true then that possibly Rohl or Mourinho? Rumours of a large release clause for Rohl when he was still in charge of Sheffield Wednesday but now he's a free agent.
30 Aug 2025 12:53:16
So the preferred candidate is Jose Mourinho?
30 Aug 2025 13:08:36
Otterspocket, I hope you are correct, but it would be a pretty odd way to approach it and if RM is sacked, he will be due a big payoff. How much depends on what is in his contract.
Surely the club could have asked Barry and his team to stay in post for longer if this was the case. I'm sure John had suggested that that was a possibility, but I think that was in case the takeover didn't happen in time.
My fear is that the Board will stick with RM no matter the result tomorrow or how toxic it becomes in the coming weeks. They want to clear out the old guard and implement a new style of football, so admitting they got it so wrong so early will be difficult for them. I sincerely hope they are big enough to admit they made a huge mistake and let RM go.
30 Aug 2025 13:08:55
Not doubting anyone for a minute and appreciate the info, but a 3 year deal for a placeholder is madness.
I wonder who was really their number one choice?
30 Aug 2025 13:13:23
Think he's heading to Man United, wslgers.
30 Aug 2025 13:15:35
Short term appointment won't get a three year contract.
30 Aug 2025 13:16:44
If that's true, can we take it that Martin had no say in the players that have been brought in?
30 Aug 2025 13:17:29
Why on earth give RM a 3 year deal and allow him to buy and sell the numbers he has? I don't buy that and if RM gets sacked it's because of results and performance on the pitch.
30 Aug 2025 13:18:28
Who possibly could be a candidate that wasn't available but would be by Xmas? Let def available.
30 Aug 2025 13:27:09
The fact is we don't know the reason he was given a 3 year contract, but it's possible we didn't know how long this manager would be in work for?
30 Aug 2025 13:28:03
Otter, interesting post ?.
30 Aug 2025 13:42:01
Some say why three year deal, what if that deal can be broken at any time with say 12 months pay off?
30 Aug 2025 13:45:39
I just can't see a three year contract given when you know it's temporary. But if RM isn't involved in recruitment plus temp loans it's feasible.
30 Aug 2025 13:48:37
Jose would be great but was our chairman at Man United when he was there?
30 Aug 2025 13:52:32
Absolutely no reason to doubt either otterspocket or John and this would then point us towards either Jose Mourinho or Danny Rohl replacing Russell Martin as the new Rangers manager, would i be close in assuming that John / Otterspocket? ?.
30 Aug 2025 14:02:57
Any manager signs a 3yr deal that can be broken with a 12 month pay off needs his head looked at, you'd just sign a 12 month rolling contract.
30 Aug 2025 14:20:45
Yeah that's what i was thinking John agreed to come hoping he can hit the ground running a it works for him
It doesn't possibly he gets a 12 month pay off
Very reasonable.
30 Aug 2025 14:21:59
Mills, cavanagh has never been at Man Utd
Alloa happens all the time, ask gio and Beale.
30 Aug 2025 14:48:06
Sorry for late response, been out for day. There's a lot more to RM contract that you may think. Part of the reason he may have got the job is because he was willing to accept certain terms and conditions shall we say. Others weren't so willing to accept similar. Listen ultimately I am simply passing on what I've heard. It didn't come from a director so my info is simply that, a rumour. Granted though it does come from a reliable and credible source. I never mentioned Jose in my post, I merely said who they really wanted is available.
30 Aug 2025 14:48:41
Interesting post and there could be some truth in it. If, and its a big if, Martins contract is performance related or he has a probationary type period where the board can bin him for minimum fee if things weren't going well. Who knows?
30 Aug 2025 14:50:52
Pretty sure he's only on around 500k a year I know it's a lot but in manager terms it isn't so maybe RM wouldn't sign unless it was a longer deal so he gets maybe 1 million if removed, just a theory.
30 Aug 2025 15:27:55
Wasn't SG was unable to take a role without incurring big tax liabilities. Perhaps he is the target (not my preference but better than the muppet we are currently stuck with) .
30 Aug 2025 16:06:32
RM reputation is in tatters if this info is accurate. The negative press and hatred from fans of our club and ex clubs has drowned the all press is good press.
30 Aug 2025 17:26:19
Scotty if our owners are prepared to bring in a coach they obv don't think is good enough to sit and wait thst set alarm bells ringing. What if the guy they supposedly wants didn't become available do they leave rm in position regardless. I don't buy it buisness men like them have contingency in place and hiring rm as caretaker isn't 1 I believe.
30 Aug 2025 19:08:55
So, the exec team lied when they said they got the man that they had wanted all along?
30 Aug 2025 19:20:33
Sounds like a way for the executive team to cover their ass in the event they have to bin their first choice.
"See, we didn't totally f*** up the first major order of business at the club. This chaos was all part of our cunning plan".
Not in any way have no a pop at you mate, I know you're relaying what you've heard and I appreciate that. But I'm not buying that narrative at all.
30 Aug 2025 21:51:32
I think you're sort of missing the point. Had RM been a massive success then there would never have been a problem. He was a free shot so to speak is my interpretation of what info I was given or as the yanks call it a Hail Mary……. anyway let's stick together as fans through this tough time and find enjoyment where ever possible.
