18 Jun 2025 17:56:01
Ehl i'm sure I read Souttar delayed an operation play the last scotland fixtures just ended but is now doubtful for cl game next month. Anything in that?
18 Jun 2025 18:47:40
Ows- again, really poor reporting from the media.
Of course the player consulted with the club and specialists - the risk is negligible.
So all involved were comfortable with the decision.
18 Jun 2025 18:48:46
I seen that too. If it's true he can get tae feck. Play to pointless friendlies ?.
18 Jun 2025 18:49:53
Shocking if this is true ows.
18 Jun 2025 18:52:34
One he had op start of the week.
18 Jun 2025 18:53:51
Read that also if true and he delayed an Op for 2 friendlies it beggars belief.
18 Jun 2025 18:54:45
Crazy that he delayed an op to play two friendlies and now he is out of competitive action. Should have had it done as soon as season was over, which was a lot earlier than the last game in may, let's be fair.
18 Jun 2025 19:09:36
Club is a part of the problem also if reports are true, but are they reports true.
18 Jun 2025 19:13:31
Some hernia ops can have full recovery in 2 weeks.
18 Jun 2025 19:14:03
Hopefully he is back and up to full speed before the CL games, if not then immediately get rid. Not the mentality required to win trophies.
This kind of decision would only ever be acceptable for qualifiers or tournament games. Certainly not friendlies!
18 Jun 2025 19:18:50
The club approved this. It's usual media drama and headline making.
18 Jun 2025 19:32:49
Think everyone is missing EHl response
Player spoke to club both parties happy with decision.
18 Jun 2025 19:36:49
Honestly, our fans are wild at times.
18 Jun 2025 19:37:09
Ehl that doesn't make it any better makes it worse that the club agreed with it.
18 Jun 2025 19:42:05
Why Strom?
Because a group of highly trained specialists concluded that the risk was negligible?
18 Jun 2025 19:42:53
Ehl what's wild is letting a guy that needs an op play 2 pointless games.
18 Jun 2025 19:43:21
Agree with storm, if he had the injury at end of the season or before he should have arranged for it to have been done as soon as possible. Our season was by long before it officially was. Not sure what's hard to get with that or how others don't see it as a bad decision, board backing or not.
18 Jun 2025 19:46:45
Storm 100%. The player should know better to even contemplate such a ridiculous idea and equally the club should not be granting it.
If he was 100% dedicated to the club then his first thoughts should have been to get the op done as early as possible so he is back up to full speed as early as possible. Not playing meaningless friendlies.
I can only imaging that the op is minor and he will be available, if not and we need to go with a back 2 of Propper and Davies then we have just forfeited £30M in potential CL money to keep Souttar happy ?.
18 Jun 2025 19:54:42
Strom, how many games did we let him play for us?
Also, define pointless? Souttar dreams of representing his country at a major tournament and he's never been a first choice defender - so they may have been pointless to you, but they sure as hell meant a lot to him.
Honesty, people jump to absolutely outlandish conclusion with virtual no information.
18 Jun 2025 20:04:50
Would it not have been better to miss 2 friendly fixtures and get his op and give him every chance to be fit and available.
18 Jun 2025 20:12:18
EHL they were 100% pointless.
Did any of those matches have any bearing on Souttar representing Scotland at a major tournament?
Btw the answer is no.
18 Jun 2025 20:14:38
We 100% have the most jump the gun fan base in the world. Every little thing is massive issue. Find myself distancing from our fans these days can't be bothered with it all.
18 Jun 2025 20:14:51
So our CB's for Champs league qualifiers are Propper and Nsiala
and either Jefte or Yilmaz get to take on Tete on the RW, Pana will field a front 4 of roughly 40 mill in value against our defence.
Souttar has had continual injuries for years, anyway he is away for free after this season.
18 Jun 2025 20:18:31
? you can need an Op and it not affect you physically at all! Why do we constantly want anything to moan about!
18 Jun 2025 20:19:11
EHL that's nonsense.
Negligible or not, the games were pointless after bilbao. He shouldve been operated on straight away.
Hes been Clarkes starting centre back for well over a year now, missing 2 friendlies against dross wouldn't have made a single difference.
My memory also may be deserting me, but I'm quite sure it isn't the first time he's done something similar to this.
No new deal, time to to.
A top class starter, porteous, mckenna and Nsiala please.
18 Jun 2025 20:27:18
Ehl is he likely to be fit for first euro game.
18 Jun 2025 20:29:23
I have to agree with EHL tbh, not one single person on this chat knows what his recovery time/ schedule is. Surely the special-istS and his employers are best placed to make an informed decision. There is absolutely no information other than somebody's opinion stating he won't be fit for the games. Rangers fans will honestly find anything to moan about.
18 Jun 2025 20:33:42
Ehl they were pointless to everyone and he ain't going to be playing for Scotland at the next World Cup as we are never gona make it.
If he isn't fit for that 1st game then it's a disgrace and the club and him fecked up
Ps Scotland don't pay his wages Rangers do. I don't rate him anyway I hope he is sold.
{Ed001's Note - if Scotland are unlikely to qualify, isn't that all the more reason for him to get as many caps as he can elsewhere?}
18 Jun 2025 20:34:50
Zikos, the answer is to your question is yes.
Last thing I'll say on this one is that the reason Souttar needed the op is because he opted to return from injury early and played through pain and and rehab for half a season.
Therefore to question his commitment to the club is outrageous.
18 Jun 2025 20:37:08
That's the real question John, if the answer is no then it's a shocking decision from player, club and country!
If the answer is yes then nothing to see here.
18 Jun 2025 20:41:19
Ehl u seriously miss the point, how many games did we let him play for us, answer should be none, he required an op.
Fans all over burst a gut to buy tickets for games and that's the thanks we get
I spen a five figure sum buying corporate season tickets for four people, my choice but I expect much more from the club.
18 Jun 2025 20:48:13
I know I said last post, but can't let your comment go John.
You should be praising him then for putting his body on the line for half a season for the fans of our club, the same way he done for the Scotland fans.
18 Jun 2025 20:50:48
Wait til I grab my popcorn.
18 Jun 2025 20:52:13
Ed the point from ehl was he played because he wasn't to play in a major tournament with scotland playing 2 pointless friendlies doesn't help that especially when he need an op.
Great posts guys struth, John and others
Ehl you are basically saying we as fans should have an opinion the only think that's outrageous is your take the club take and souttar take on this.
{Ed001's Note - you think it is pointless, but you are not a professional athlete being invited to represent their country. To players, it is usually seen as the pinnacle of their career to represent their country, whether that is in a competitive tournament or friendly.}
18 Jun 2025 20:52:56
Surely i haven't read someone say it's time to go for souttar because of this ? Manager, Medical staff whoever needs to know has clearly been told and it's all been ok'd. They all know the context of the situation, everyone on here has just found out about it and shock everyone knows better then the professionals. Just waiting for someone to blame it all on tavernier now.
18 Jun 2025 21:00:57
How dare a Scottish player be proud to play for Scotland whilst playing for a Scottish club.
No one would bat an eye if he played for England.
18 Jun 2025 21:01:54
I used to be under account GC1872. I know souttars family about the only info I have close to the club but I can tell you he consulted with the club first and everyone was on par with the situation. EHL is correct he has had it for a while and been playing through it as that's the kind of man he is.
18 Jun 2025 21:03:04
He'd have been better getting the operation when the league was done and we had nothing to play for, then been back for for the Scotland games and CL qualifiers. That's just my unprofessional and uneducated opinion (except for my degree in hindsight)
18 Jun 2025 21:04:41
R1 it is effecting him tho what are you on about he is likely to miss 1st game of season so not taking op earlier when our games finished is effecting him and us.
18 Jun 2025 21:13:50
The article says it was a minor tidy up operation and that he was away on holiday a couple of days later then the headline and Jacksons article is written as if he's doubtful for the Euro ties . There is no way the Rangers medical team would have let him go and play two friendlies and delay the op by 3 weeks if there was a chance he would miss the start of the season. Maybe we should trust our club rather than listen to a shady journalist in search of a headline.
18 Jun 2025 21:17:04
Take a deep breath team, if the club are okay with it then it's been thought out. Give yourselves peace eh!
18 Jun 2025 21:22:50
I can see both sides . I will keep my powder dry. If he makes start of season fair enough. If he does not wrong decision by club to support. I.
18 Jun 2025 21:33:54
Regardless of whether Souttar is fit to play against Pana, he won't be available for the start of training which means he's unlikely to get a full preseason behind him. If he is behind in the fitness stakes then it could be too big a risk to play him against Pana, regardless of howwell he may have recovered from surgery. It's been known for ages that we had important CL qualifiers in July, so to delay an operation in such circumstances is questionable to say the least.
18 Jun 2025 21:43:50
Ehl i appreciate your reply and if he's fit and available then good news.
18 Jun 2025 21:44:50
Playin for your country is an honour only a small handful out of millions who dreamt of it get to experience and completely up to the player, its his career. And to say it won't have any effect on his chances of playing at a major finals is ridiculous, how else will he get a place in the team if he doent play?
18 Jun 2025 21:49:39
Laudrup are we not allowed to sign anybody before then?
18 Jun 2025 21:59:49
Honestly man, this site is fulla drama queens. Always moaning at something, and some people think too highly of their own opinions and always ready to dismiss others'.
The club wouldn't put themselves out when we're so short at the back, there will be a simple explanation to all this.
18 Jun 2025 22:11:32
Still blue how do you know he won't be available for start of training. you don't know what the surgery was. everyone is basing this on a KJ story in the daily rag. am I the only one who sees the irony in this especially when some of the posters comparing are those who ridicule the gent every time.
my god it is embarrassing at times on here.
18 Jun 2025 22:16:50
Look if the guy spoke to the club and management etc and they were okay with it then there is no issue, he has done what anyone of us would have done in that situation and been given the go ahead.
For all we know they might already know he isn't going to be a starter for us anyways so this whole thing is pointless and if not then the club will get backlash for allowing it later on.
As EHL has said we need to trust these guys have the best interests of the club and are making the right decisions.
18 Jun 2025 22:22:40
Hopefully we've started contract talks with Souttar. Best defender at the club by quite a margin IMO.
18 Jun 2025 22:30:02
Ehl sorry mate you r having a laugh,
Superally. That's the problem our standard has plummeted.
18 Jun 2025 22:39:29
Like I stated in previous posts, to me the issue is, why didn't he get the op before any of this and recover before all the games? I can understand ehl's point about praising him for playing through the pain barrier. if the games had any meaning after the bilbao tie. But they didn't. So he effectively played through the pain barrier in games that didn't affect the outcome of the season. So again, why wouldn't you get the op then? I can't see any defence for that.
18 Jun 2025 22:41:22
Clyb could and should have said no end of.
Maybe tells you something about souttars future intentions that we are not his priority or us qualifying for champions league.
18 Jun 2025 22:51:02
WOW hissy fits and toys out the pram springs to mind tonight.
18 Jun 2025 23:08:13
No one is saying he shouldn't play for Scotland or be proud to play for Scotland.
The point is, if he has delayed an op which enables him to play for Scotland in meaningless friendlies (which I think the majority agree they are) which then sidelines him from the most important matches of the season (CL qualifiers) then that is morally wrong from the player and incompetent on the clubs part. Even if it means we have a sad player, then so be it.
We need to start running things in a professional manner.
He might well be back and up to full speed in plenty of time which is great, a win win. But if not then his integrity is seriously questionable as is the clubs decision making.
18 Jun 2025 23:25:55
A couple of points regarding Soutar scenario.
1st of all Barry wanted the job and to give him the best chance he had to think short term game to game so no issues with him selecting Soutar.
The other point is Soutar missed out on squad for Euros by skin of teeth and has recently forced his way into team so I don't blame him for wanting to try and keep his place going into the qualifiers and with all the main players committing it would have looked bad to Steve Clarke if he withdrew IMO.
Surely having a player play for their country benefits us in terms of value and experience for their player?
Personally I would play TAV and or Sterling who is left sided at heart of defence if Souttar isn't available.
Lastly he has had terrible time with injuries through the years so I'd rather he got done whatever was needed to help him long term and probably means he has been playing with an injury for a while to help Rangers as a club.
18 Jun 2025 23:32:26
If it was known Souttar needed an op, he should have been given it the moment it was clear we had nothing left to play for.
The sole priority for Souttar should have been getting himself ready to participate fully in pre-season training for the club that pays his wages.
If it was determined by the club the op could wait and he could play for Scotland, he best be ready to go for pre-season. If he isn't questions will rightfully be asked.
18 Jun 2025 23:52:48
Soapy has his faults but never seen a defender block as many shots in my life, at the moment he is our best CH so if not fit for euro game it's a mistake by the club , don't think it's anything major or he would of been under the knife as soon as we were out of Europe instead of playing till end of season, could it be a possibility he's leaving we don't know as we don't know anything at moment but neither do the daily rags so at least the club doing that right.
19 Jun 2025 00:48:56
It's a pussy decision from a club that's been run by people out of touch and out of their depth.
Weak decision gives you weak results. Proper pathetic.
19 Jun 2025 02:20:57
Zikos calling his integrity into question is simply outrageous ?.
Plays on during season injured and needing minor op as he was badly needed in team, clears it with club to play for his country while in same position as he has been for most of the season which is exactly what he would have been expected to do.
If he had lied through his teeth and said I can not play for club until I have surgery but chose to play for country anyway, or not declared injury then played and made things worse, then absolutely question it, but the guy has done everything correct and can't have his integrity challenged.
If he is not fit for games come qualifiers, (and other than a journalist who has no real insight into the situation, one who most on here slate all day long and believe nothing that comes out his mouth) then the fault will lie squarely with the club for allowing it to happen. There appears to be no information that I can see outwith the article that mentions any sort of recovery time and there is nothing to say he won't be at training on first day same as everybody else.
19 Jun 2025 03:07:09
All the ones calling out soutter are calling him out through an article in the daily record ? a lot of you saying Rangers standards have slipped, I think it's where you people are getting your info that's slipped nobody else. Soutter will be fit, get a grip, people outraged over a daily record non story.
19 Jun 2025 07:55:14
IMO whether Souttat plays for Scotland is up to the Clarke and him.
As for the hernia - having had a hernia and op. Up the op I had no issues other than when I ran. 2 weeks after the op I was back at work - but still in pain. 4 weeks after was back on the biker - 6 weeks back to running.
His op sounds less severe, mine was a double hernia that was done laparoscopically. So should be back well rested.
19 Jun 2025 09:24:43
I'll repeat, some hernia ops with the help of advanced sport science and rehab can take as little as 2 weeks for full recovery. Having featured in the Scotland games he would be back in the squad a week later? Stop being ridiculous. Tiring seeing constant greeting about stuff people are guessing about. Surely you've more in your lives to care about. The first game isn't until 22nd July and the players aren't even back for training. Of course they'll be working to get as many people in for that as possible.
19 Jun 2025 12:50:42
If it was serious the club would have pulled him out, there are medics employed by the club surely people realise that?
