Fernandez is going to be major issue for us if he continues to play, he will cause us many many points
03 Sep 2026 00:02:27
If McInnes cannot see Fernandez's shortcomings, it is going to cost us big time.
He has to be taken out of the team & have a reset, with him working on his game while not having the pressure of playing every week.
There was a reason he was playing lower league in England & no team higher up down there willing to take a punt on him.
Let's be honest, the fee we paid is peanuts to them, but they were still unwilling to take the risk, as they could see his flaws.

I suspect he will be swapped for Godfrey on Saturday after that showing tonight.
Jasp how do you know nobody was interested in him? Let's be honest 3.5 million is not peanuts to Peterborough, i'm not sure where you've got that from. Its probably in their top 5 transfer sales. For all he's been poor this season, he did come here last year, win a club player of the year award, be our only player in the team of the season, get into the nigeria squad, score 6 goals and when we do get rid of him it'll probably be for much more than the 3.5 we paid.
There are plenty of good players in league 1, did the record transfer sale in spfl not come from league 1? Weird he was playing in lower leagues and Celtic only paid 1.5 million for him, MK Dons must have been unwilling to take the risk on the peanuts offer and seen his flaws!

I think we will loan Souttar out before close o fb window.
We will, imo, likely go into the free agent pool of players to make up for Souttar if we don't sort one tomorrow in time.

How he was player of the year baffles me, and only shows how bad we were. The only place he's any good is in his own mind. Absolutely shocking defender.
03 Sep 2026 06:53:00
Tav, read the post, never said it was peanuts for Peterborough, said it was peanuts for teams in higher leagues.
As to player of the year, maybe that shows how bad we were last year.
There may have been interest, but no one followed it up.
Not saying all players in lower league are poor, you have exceptions, especially if player has correct attitude & desire to learn from errors, same can't be said for Fernandez, thinks he is much better than he is, look when he makes mistake always looking around to blame someone else, may be wrong but don't see anyone offering us anywhere near our inflated valuation of him.

Oh, absolutely, heaven forbid a player looks laid-back, because we all know Scottish football fans value furious sprinting over actual composure.
The narrative that he "needs to go" just because of his relaxed body language is exhausting. Yes, he makes mistakes. There is a reason he was playing in League One before moving to the SPL. But let's look at the actual stats from last night: he won almost every single ball in the air and, as far as I remember, most that came into the box in his direction.
Because he has one obvious lapse in judgment per game, people hyper-focus on that and ignore the rest of his performance. Does he need to release the ball quicker? Definitely.
But you could say the exact same thing about Makhanya, yet he doesn't get half the stick.
The reality is he is a much better defender than his current form suggests. The transfer interest over the summer was real, but the club refused to sell him on the cheap because they actually recognise his potential. That speculation has likely messed with his focus, which is fair enough.
But let's not rewrite history. People were absolutely raving about him last year, and even at the start of this window, fans were throwing around £20M to £25M price tags. Don't start misremembering how good he can be just to justify your current agenda against him.
03 Sep 2026 09:06:04
Just the one last night?
He's a scare at the back who had the cheek to call out Makhanya first half but absolved himself of any blame for his errors.

Totally disagree with your assessment of him, Angus, mate. But it's all about opinions. It's not rewriting history as our defence with him was a complete joke for the majority of last season too. He got totally overhyped after scoring a few goals at the start and he believed it as much as some fans.
It's not just one moment either per game, but as all the commentators and pundits said, his overall performance is creating panic and nervousness throughout the rest of the team.
And I wouldn't put much weight on fans' valuations as they also said we'd be making 10s of millions each on Dio, Aasgaard, Raskin, Gassama, Barron, etc and none of that happens.
03 Sep 2026 09:35:56
Never seen a 15 million player in him when he was playing as good as we have seen him. He looks like he has a rotten attitude and always seems to try and absolve himself from any blame or responsibility. Ultimately, this guy is going to cost us points.

Fernandez can't be trusted, that's the issue. He seems to play the game for him and not the team. He may have the physical attributes, but he's not switched in enough for me. Quality striker will have him on toast.
03 Sep 2026 10:28:11
Ok, Jasp. Apologies, I read it wrong. I still don't think you become a poor player over summer. Even if the team were bad last season, Fernandez had a good first season.
He needs dropped and a kick up the back side.
03 Sep 2026 10:32:42
If u only speaking about or seeing one mistake per game, who is the one hyper focusing on individual mistakes? The rest of us look at his whole performance and its effect on those around him. And there's a massive difference between composure and complacency.

Kaiser, the commentators and particularly Boyd look to comment on what gets the most attention and stay relevant. It seems the done thing is to mention how disinterested he is and that is then replicated by everyone. He always seems to be doing enough moaning and groaning for someone disinterested. I thought Sutton last night was fairly balanced on him. I just think he has become the new Tavernier as we always seem to need one.
Had a look at a few stats sites to see if your memory of how poor he was last season holds water.
On SofaScore for an example (as it has been used on here a lot) he was over 7 out of 10 for all of last season until end of March when he dropped to 6.5. He has also surprisingly been over 7 this season as well despite his obvious mistakes. So those who watch the game for these sites obviously don't see the same issues. 🤷 I think they don't just focus on his laid back style, though s fans have done.

Big Manny will be hurting after those blunders.
There is a very good cb in him. He gives me the fear, but at the same time I don't fear corners and crosses so much these days.
Give him time. After the tm closes, he will regain focus.
03 Sep 2026 11:17:33
A lot of pundits etc look for reaction, I know, but when they're all in agreement about him, that says a lot. They've played the game too, and understand how he affects others' performance, not just seeing his stats.
6.5 - 7 on ratings isn't exactly inspiring if u put value on those things, to be honest. Maybe he just needs time out or a more experienced head alongside him, like others say.
