I just read the comments from Derek McInnes regarding Lewis Ferguson. Just when you think we can't be embarrassed anymore, this happens. It's unreal.
The manager of Rangers is criticising the recruitment team for wasting their time on a transfer target. Said transfer target being the Rangers mangers own son no less. Can the manager of Rangers not communicate that with the recruitment team? Do we need a Director of Football to act as go between? Does the left hand not know what the right hand is doing? Would the owners be justified in criticising the formations and subs McInnes uses calling them a 'waste of time'? This is a circus!
Brendan Rodgers made comments similar to this last season. He criticised Celtic's recruitment and said he said "you can't drive a Civic like a Ferrari". Rodgers was a good coach, his comments were accurate, his criticism of the board was just, but he had to go afterwards - And he did.
The owners won't accept public embarrassment or the airing of dirty laundry in public like this. I'm now totally convinced McInnes will be off in the coming weeks.

Personally I don't think McInnes will leave, or I certainly hope he doesn't anyway.
But I don't think he will be happy with recruitment. It's been poor, that's pretty obvious.
But I agree he shouldn't be talking about it to the media, it should be kept in house.
But he must be so frustrated, just as we are.
He wants a better calibre of player than he's been given.
One thing's for sure though, we desperately need a positive response and result tomorrow.
The first 4 games couldn't have gone any worse, so we need to see some kind of positives.

I don't disagree with McInnes' comments. However, we're only seeing one side of the argument. We have no idea what AC's expectations of the recruitment team are. From what I can see, somebody has made the conscious decision to recruit an SPL level manager and SPL level players. If that was the direction for the recruitment team to follow then they've done their job.
As for McInnes, he needs to get his own house in order before throwing his toys out of the pram. He's not delivered anything to have credit in the bank with the fans. Rodgers' record, for example, was outstanding. He could throw his weight around and was probably right to resign in the end.
Interesting that Celtic are now paying top dollar for players.
McInnes' tactics so far have been catastrophic. More issues arise from indecision than wrong decisions. In my opinion, McInnes has proven this statement true.
If the recruitment team were told to build a Championship-winning team, then McInnes has a point. Our current squad should be doing cartwheels if we manage to finish second. All of us fans will not know these expectations until either Purdy and Therewell leave or McInnes leaves, but one set of these groups will be gone by Christmas. That's a certainty in my opinion.

Firstly, McInnes won't leave or be pushed out. His comments about recruitment are probably correct, but he's probably had a say in who comes in. But the big question for me is, why are two under 30s, Purdy & Theilwell, choosing players? Surely they can't be head of recruitment. The Americans so far have made us solvent, we have money, but it's been an unmitigated disaster.
The recruitment: only the Japanese lad looks good enough. If they are going to tighten the purse now after Thursday, we are looking at 3/4 th place at best. Something needs to happen, and fast, to sort this disaster out.

McInness is not the issue with the recruitment, until we get rid of Thewell and Purdy, we are not going to recruit the talent that we want. I think if you give MacInnes the correct players he can challenge for the title, and he has shown this at Hearts last season. It has also been shown that the signings we have made have been poor since Thewell and Purdy were recruited, as we signed some talent under Kopen.
We need a complete overhaul in the recruitment team, I would also consider bringing Christian Nerliger in, as the talent that he has on his books is amazing. You just have to look at who Celtic signed; Kuhn, for example, was a player whose agent was Nerliger. So why are we not using one of our own to find us quality players.

Rodgers constantly complained about recruitment & that affected the players he had, they decided they didn't want to play for him anymore. Then O'Neill took over & they played better, not amazing but better. Even under Nancy they played great football at times, but they didn't like how he coached them. Kinda like Martin to Rohl.
McInnes has final say & is involved, EHL said on here, McInnes, AC, Stig are the ones who pick who to sign. McInnes picked which positions to prioritise. Somehow it's all Purdy & Thelwell Jr's fault? Doesn't make sense to me.
Are they brilliant? No, but we don't know who McInnes has overlooked & said no to except Skoglund & Victory.
McInnes needs to take some of the blame & responsibility. His tactics have been awful, his changes & sub choices are baffling, the players have regressed. What's he doing with them in training? They don't look fit either. Is that down to recruitment? No, that's down to him & his backroom. Maybe his backroom is the problem, our setpieces are terrible compared to last season. He should be focused on making the team & players better.

True story this, McInnes is definitely Ferguson Jr's dad and I have it on very good authority that Walter Smith managed to stop Sergio Porrini in the nick of time as he was taking McInnes for a game of Squash that had been laid on by Ferguson Sr.
