Does anyone ITK know if RM is happy with our GK or will be looking to replace Butland if we can get an offer for him from somewhere? I don't think either keeper is good enough with ball at their feet to play RM style of play.

It won't be long in finding out Storm, Butland can't play the way Martin plays the game imo he ain't changing the way he sees the game because his keeper can't do what he expects from his keeper, say it again all Martin teams play with a sweeper keeper.

I agree storm but think with all the other positions we are trying to secure, that this one may be deemed low priority. Which for me is a mistake unless Butland can recapture his 2023 form ?.

Just my take, Storm, but I reckon we'd make a change if we could.
It looks like Butland is proving difficult to move on, so we might be stuck with him for a while yet. I can't see us shifting Kelly to bring in a new number 1 either Butland's wages are probably high enough that he'll keep getting game time until we can sort something.
Pretty sure EHL mentioned in his old role at the club that we'd have liked to bring in a new number 1, but no offers have come in for Butland.
Personally, I'd really like to see us sign a new number 1.

Butland is a top drawer keeper, who lost a bit of confidence last season, any wonder? I have faith in him and he is not as bad at passing out from the back as some would believe.

Don't think it would be one of his immediate concerns Storm but definitely someone you feel will be replaced this summer or next.
Would love to move him on since he will be on a decent wage and has been awful for some time now.

Good replies guys, I was just thinking about this morning as if it has been forgotten as I agree with Mystar I don't think Butland can play that way and Kelly certainly can't so we could be hamstrung at the back agains because of this. Unless RM is happy with both I would say keeper is the most important position on the pitch.

His pass rate is 78% which is just slightly less than Alisson at Liverpool. yes worse than Neuer and Terry Stegen but imagine thew price difference. Funny thing is that Woodman who is mentioned as a replacement has a pass success rate of 64% so obviously not good with ball at his feet either.
I also don't think he is as bad and let's be honest we haven't played that way to test if he can play that way or not.

Sorry sent that before I finished how many goals did Tav Propper and Jefte cost us last season that can mentally affect a keeper he still pulled off some cracking saves last season so I would like to see how he plays this season.

Woodman is far better than Butland with the ball at his feet though Angus, I'm not really interested in passing rate for a keeper, Butland puts the fear in me with the ball anywhere near his feet, think it was you that said maybe him being involved more will befit him and it could possibly and give him more concentration and hopefully it does, passing to fullbacks or cb's is easy for any keeper let's see if he can find out number 6's regularly or 8's like Martin looks for from his keeper, Butland has never played as a sweeper keeper because when we press he'll be outside his box looking to react to through balls or ball over the top.

Hopefully the new Goalkeeper coach can get the best out butlin and kelly as they have shown they are good Goalkeepers.
Also i think if we can get the defence sorted then we won't loose goals or GK won't make silly mistakes as they are having to focus on what the def will do.

It is without doubt the most important position but let's not pretend like Butland is a bad keeper, he is still a good goalie but suffered ever since that cup final mistake.

Last summer if we had sold Butland and replaced him with Freddie Woodman our fans would have been up in arms and screaming about downgrading . Now some think a guy who has gone to Liverpool to be third choice should be our No.1.I can't criticise the guy because I've never seen him play but his C. V isn't exactly stellar.

So we need a keeper who can pass to the guys in front of him and his pass success rate is 14% better than an option being offered, i. e. better with the ball at his feet. yet still Star you think your eyes and judgement on a player is better than the actual statistics show. don't bother replying as you obviously consider yourself to be some sort of payer spotting guru and I can't be bothered discussing with someone who thinks their eyes know better than what the professionals see.

Fan of Butland but he's definitely not been the same keeper since he got that England snub. don't know he ever will be again either.
