So, the rumour mill continues to spin.

Chat from earlier today is that we're split in our approach between two candidates.

One is a young coach, with good experience that ultimately fits the model the club are wanting to adopt - potentially Danny Rohl / Edin Terzic.

The other is an older more experienced coach, with wide ranging CV that could help stabilise the club whilst the revolution begins - Roger Schmidt.

Agree9 Disagree0

25 Apr 2025 11:12:27
I think the latter is being mooted as Dyce as experienced, and link up with new DOF. He would be the steady the ship type.

25 Apr 2025 11:19:23
EHL got to ask, how can we be split between two candidates?

Shouldn't this be done by Thelwell when he comes in?

But for me it has to be the younger guy, who is more in tune with how to coach this generation of footballers. Gone are the days of how you used to be able to manage players. Plus as you say it fits with how our model is so why would we stray from it already.

25 Apr 2025 11:20:13
Rather the younger coach Ehl.

25 Apr 2025 11:21:14
Is schmidt the manager that beat us with benfica last year?

25 Apr 2025 11:25:35
Torn on it, on one hand u want someone to steady the ship as this is a massive change but on the other hand u want progressive innovative thinking from a younger guy to challenge moving forward. All the names would be a coup tbh.

25 Apr 2025 11:26:40
Brilliant EHL, could we afford Terzic? Danny Rohl has really impressed me at Wednesday.
Roger Schmidt teams have been really good to watch, Feyenord and Benfica, would be interested to see what his wages are.
All 3 really exciting names.

25 Apr 2025 11:33:56
Thanks for the info EHL out of them three names I'd like Schmidt also wouldn't mind terzic.

25 Apr 2025 11:38:24
Great information EHL wouldn't complain with any of those three and far prefer them to SG/ SD/ BF and many of the others mentioned.

25 Apr 2025 11:47:58
I feel someone with experience would be the best route to start off with. There's going to be a lot happening over the next year and you want a manager who can come in and know what their job is.
Up and coming manager for after in my opinion.

25 Apr 2025 12:09:51
Terzic is the name that's jumps out there. Not Rohl surely?
Schmidt is interesting. Does he not have Red Bull job before? Salzburg?

3 intriguing names. Terzic for me if this was the choices.

25 Apr 2025 12:29:36
He says to have varied knowledge of different aspects of the game which I like. He's played, sports science degree, technical director and manager.

All from Wikipedia.

I don't know much about him but it's sounds like an interesting option.

25 Apr 2025 12:53:44
Why would we stray from our current model? Well, it was a model that had to be introduced by a board that had no money to finance transfers and attractive wages and I would think without going crazy, there is no need to stick to a cost cutting philosophy under the new owners, plus we have just had our worst season in years which suggests the current philosophy isn't working. Money spent on recruitment has been wasted on players who we all agree aren't good enough and the younger development players have struggled . Possibly playing more than was intended, being left exposed on the field by their experienced teammates or they are just not good enough either.
If the current philosophy remains we are in for more seasons of the same pain .

25 Apr 2025 13:02:38
As usual very much appreciated terrific info EHL ?From the 3 you mention ie. danny rohl, edin terzic and roger schmidt, i personally would prefer edin terzic ?But personally of course i'd be right behind any the 3 of them, or whoever becomes our new manager ???.

25 Apr 2025 13:44:35
Got some more on this one - so we are definitely down to 2 preferred candidates - one young and one experienced.

The names provided are based on some guess work between myself and a couple of others - so take these as speculation.

Original search criteria was focussing on up and coming coaches, however KT has requested an expansion as he he thinks we may need an more experienced head to navigate the next few years of development.

Both candidates are defined as exceptional.

25 Apr 2025 13:44:36
Wslgers I agree. Why would we stick to the same model. No doubt we're probably within ffp rules now and will have very bug commercial deals on the horizon. Few players may be sold for large sums but the new board if takeover happens are hardly lacking money. I forsee slightly larger transfer budget this season whilst commercial deals are complete then a large transfer budget the following season.

25 Apr 2025 13:48:10
Fiscal responsibility is absolutely paramount, get that right and its a solid foundation.

25 Apr 2025 13:59:17
From the 3 manager names EHL has mentioned, my preferred choice in order would be 1. Edin Terzic

2. Roger Schmidt

3. Danny Rohl ?

Between these 3 managers/ head coaches, what would be your choices in order fellow bears ?ED, would you be so kind to run a poll for me mate ? My poll being ie. 'If it was between these 3 managers only, which one would you prefer to be the new Rangers manager? Roger Schmidt, Edin Terzic or Danny Rohl ? as usual many thanks ED, very much appreciated pal ?.

Rangers manager poll

25 Apr 2025 14:36:33
WSL the new model was implemented for a reason and being taken over does not change that one bit. We can't just throw silly money about as we don't generate enough money hence why we have changed the way we are operating. Are you forgetting that these developing players are not from Scotland and speak very little English so are learning a new language, culture, league and have very little guidance since our "leaders" are nothing but failures themselves! Perhaps if this group of players had the like of Davis, Defoe, Arfield and such guiding them then they'd have made more progress but they don't and are stuck with Tav and Propper!

25 Apr 2025 15:15:02
So EHL, its quite possible it could be the experienced manager Roger Schmidt V the younger less experienced manager Edin Terzic to see who becomes the next permanent Rangers manager mate ? I would assume that the 2 candidates that have been shortlisted, both definitely have stated to whoever is conducting the search, that they want our manager's job ?.

25 Apr 2025 15:16:07
Could Tedesco be one of the potential candidates?

The reason I ask, Both him and Terzic aren't currently in roles and therefore we wouldn't be required to pay any compensation compared to Rohl.

Schmidt also currently not in a role.

Tedesco still young and was involved in the RB setup.

25 Apr 2025 15:30:10
If young coaches was the case EHL I'd have been looking at Jack Wilshere.

Extremely highly rated at arsenal and left their academy for first team coach at Norwich.

Would be getting him involved regardless.

25 Apr 2025 15:37:18
I can never believe that after what happened to the club in 2012 fans still want the club/ board/ owners too throw as much money at this as they can and if they don't the story is that they have taken us as far as they can. we need to have fiscal responsibility as Fork says, and spend within the money we create. that may increase in the coming years but at the moment it hasn't. Hopefully this is our Fergus McCann moment (sorry but it is true) and the building blocks are put in place at last to allow us to be a financially well run club. success on the pitch will follow from that.

25 Apr 2025 15:41:25
SWS, are the names EHL mentioned not just suggestions/ his thoughts who they could be and not actual names that he's heard for the job? Feel like you're getting ahead of yourself with the names he's said.

25 Apr 2025 15:42:16
Davie because our wage structure won't change for the foreseeable that's why.

25 Apr 2025 16:08:07
Correct Angus and BBJ, that's why I posted what I did??.

25 Apr 2025 16:12:42
Spot on Scott.

25 Apr 2025 16:28:27
One name you never hear mentioned for any job is Thomas Frank, why is that? Is he just totally invested in Brentford?

25 Apr 2025 16:40:11
Scott 100% correct. Some on here just believe we interview everyone that's been named.

Evenehl clearly states it's suggestions, he's not daft enough to name insider info from the club that pays him.

He would soon be moved on if he did.

25 Apr 2025 16:42:06
Schmidt is a great shout. Experienced with teams who have great player trading models and played good football PSV/ Benfica/ Salzburg. It's probably not a name that sets the heather alight but he fits the criteria well. Personally don't see the fuss about Terzic but that's just my opinion.

25 Apr 2025 17:48:54
I mentioned Tedesco yesterday Trublue33, still think he's not a bad shout, a good few german managers.

25 Apr 2025 18:13:46
Roger Schmidt has a terrific CV Rabbi ? He's managed some big clubs with success and most of the club's he's managed, he has over a 60% win rate which undoubtedly is a very good managerial stat ?I think he'd be a very good choice if it did come to pass ?.

25 Apr 2025 18:41:01
Rodger schmidt sounds he more attractive option to me.

Better cv

High profile teams

Won several trophies

Gotta have wat more contacts and good ideas on transfer targets having managed in germany portugal netherlands andd asia

Sounds great to me

I'd be concerned with terzic walking away from job after bust up with matt hummels could he handle the pressure pot of glasgow

And other guy great coaching cv but its not manager experience and too risky with all changes at the club.

25 Apr 2025 18:47:23
He's also done well in multiple leagues. If Koppen (which I fully expect he will) stays there's also their PSV overlap. I think Schmidt is worth punting a tenner at 20-1.

25 Apr 2025 19:33:00
Hopefully the two we are looking at have applied / are interested in the job!

25 Apr 2025 19:41:58
My question exactly Bee, which i eluded to further up the page ?.

25 Apr 2025 19:53:14
BigBlueJim, Read what I wrote again, I am well aware that the current model was put in place for a reason but if we are taken over, that reason no longer exists . I never suggested throwing crazy money at it but the current model of wasting money on the likes of Dessers, Danilo, Bajrami, Propper etc etc will produce the same results AND if we are going to stick to the current wage structure we will not attract the level of player that we need. There is no point in the new owners even coming to Rangers if they stick with the same model that has failed miserably over the last 4 years. They must have plans to generate more funds and a lot of that will be dependant on having a successful teams, if you think we will attract a decent manager and be successful operating the same way, you are dreaming. Even buying the best young talent in Scotland will cost us at least £4million,
And I never criticised the young players like Jefte, Igamane and Cortes, I said they have struggled and actually gave reasons for that, one of which you repeated . By the way do you think Davis, Defoe and Arfield would have been at Ibrox for less than £10k a week?

25 Apr 2025 20:37:26
The direction of the club changed in the summer btw, you can't say it's the same model as the previous years.

25 Apr 2025 20:35:00
WSL of course it will exist because that's how they'll take profit, they aren't doing this to not make profit. Young talent, low wages and selling for potentially big profit like Benfica and the club will grow with that. Obviously, there'll be a mix of experience they'll bring in too.

25 Apr 2025 20:53:20
WSL the model has just been implemented for a season and not 4 years, it's the silly money that this current board allowed SG and MB to pay failing players. Of course they are going to stick with this model, they ain't buying us just for the sake of it, they want us turning profit. This isn't throwing £10m per player, we will continue buying young and flip in a few years. Just hopefully allow us to get target A instead of B, C, D etc and some good experience added in. Let's face it Dessers, Propper and such were not our first choice.

25 Apr 2025 22:31:30
What makes people think that by buying more expensive players and paying higher wages that these players will be better and the club will be more successful.

We bought Dessers for £4M+ and Igamane for £1.5M and the wages are different as well. who is the better player is always debated on here. We need to get the right players (difficult) at the right price (equally difficult) and have a manager who can play a style which gets the best out of them. Money helps but it doesn't buy success. If it was down to money we will remain 2nd to Celtic until the 49ers get us a greater turnover and profit.

26 Apr 2025 09:21:37
Angus . money talks simple how on earth do you think we did 9 in a row and got guys like laudrup walters woods butcher treveor steven Mark Hateley and the like to come to the club where you asleep during 9 in a row because we certainly bought our way to those titles guys like laudrup on record saying the money we were offering was insane and way too good to turn down.

26 Apr 2025 09:22:54
I don't think we can afford to wait for official appointments in director of football most managers are sacked and replaced around this time and if we don't start pricess now half our candidates could be snapped up before we get a chance to speak to them if we sit and wait.
