Russell Martin and one other are the final two for our next manager. Martin been interviewed twice and has impressed.
15 Apr 2025 16:29:42
Interviewed by whom? New director of sporting operations is not in post and has not carried out any official engagements.
15 Apr 2025 16:30:02
Impressed who our current board?
Thats hardly a great endorsement with thier track record.
15 Apr 2025 16:35:07
Hope not ?.
15 Apr 2025 16:36:08
Hahahahahahahaha no worries whos his assistant timmy mallet?
15 Apr 2025 16:41:17
Stated all along Copland boy that Russell Martin is very much in the running to become our next permanent Rangers manager and some don't want to believe that because they don't want him ?I actually heard this afternoon that the shortlist was Russell Martin, Frank Lampard and Marco Rose ? Only passing on what i heard and sharing it with all on here ?.
15 Apr 2025 16:47:03
Don't know who started the Martin rumour but they might have been bladdered at the time.
15 Apr 2025 17:05:40
I would be sad if he is our next manager and i would need cheering up. He is obviously in with a shout right enough as he is on Coop's shortlist which has slightly more folk on it than all the people who took part in both world wars.
15 Apr 2025 17:07:09
SWS no one is doubting you or refusing to believe anything.
No manager has been interviewed for permanent job.
15 Apr 2025 17:07:47
I've never heard Martin's name being mentioned in or around the club - so would be surprised by this.
15 Apr 2025 17:19:10
Lovely spelling of "Copeland" get the spelling right it's Copland, me thinks nonsense. ?.
15 Apr 2025 17:21:52
I've seen plenty slagging a Russell Martin appointment. What's wrong with the guy?
15 Apr 2025 17:31:20
Fork, you're correct it is nonsense as no interviews have taken place for any candidates.
15 Apr 2025 17:39:50
I don't know enough about him. What I have read he has one style. We had that with the likes of Warburton. Do plan A better.
I want a manager who has a core way of playing but can adapt for different teams, styles and can have his team playing different formations if needed. and react on the spot.
15 Apr 2025 17:41:25
??? Three Cheers.
15 Apr 2025 17:44:02
If Russell Martin hadn't played for us and had given us nightmares over his defending then the reaction to him being linked to the job would be nowhere near as bad as it is.
15 Apr 2025 17:54:14
I'll tell you you in my opinion what's wrong with a guy like Russel Martin, he plays one way and only one way which is the same way as Beale and these new "super coaches" and it hasn't worked for the past few years.
It is a figure head we need. we need a "boss" someone who understands the physicality of the domestic league we play in and can change the mentalities of those wearing the shirt. Good luck to guys like Russell Martin but in my opinion he wouldn't be anywhere near the club.
15 Apr 2025 17:54:26
Asa, i definitely haven't said any prospective new manager has been interviewed mate ?.
15 Apr 2025 18:02:19
No thanks for martin.
15 Apr 2025 18:03:21
Russel Martin's football will end us up in the same position as usual, possession football against a low block is just inviting the dreaded horseshoe, give me pace, power and forward attacking football over it so big NO on Martin.
15 Apr 2025 18:03:54
Three cheers, that is a fair if slightly "childish" assessment.
I hope you enjoy light hearted humour as much as I do.
15 Apr 2025 18:08:30
If Russell Martin hadn't played for us he wouldn't be getting discussed as much by the media and SWS.
Shades of Kevin Muscat I think.
15 Apr 2025 18:09:14
Don't think anything he done as a player will have any reflection on his managerial career.
15 Apr 2025 18:17:57
Martin certainly wouldn't be my choice.
15 Apr 2025 18:25:48
SWS I wasn't saying you said that.
The Original poster claims Martin has been interviewed twice which is completely false.
15 Apr 2025 18:26:24
So SWS where did your conviction that Martin would be our next manager come from. was it you who said his name was being mentioned around Ibrox (think it was one of the Walter's) . was that by the fans? if so then Broxi bear surely has a chance ?.
15 Apr 2025 18:47:07
According to you coops they are about 20 odd managers in the running.
15 Apr 2025 18:47:44
3 cheers that is brilliant ?.
15 Apr 2025 18:53:23
Angus, i never once said Russell Martin would be our next manager, what i did say is he's being considered and in the running i'm told ? Only sharing what i've been told mate ? is that not what this site is about? ?
15 Apr 2025 19:19:00
Great Post PeterHuistra! How underwhelming would it be for the new owners to appoint a Manager like Russell Martin with his limited management experience! A definite no from me✌️??.
15 Apr 2025 20:11:09
My sides are splitting Three Cheers ??.
15 Apr 2025 20:11:37
Ah yes the daily post from sws stating that Russell is in the running. Nice.
15 Apr 2025 20:18:34
Three Cheers, that's probably the best bit of banter I've read on these pages yet ????.
15 Apr 2025 20:32:19
I'd rather have Chris Martin from Coldplay.
15 Apr 2025 20:36:56
Martin is just another warburton its hard no from me.
15 Apr 2025 20:51:17
Not a problem sWS but you still haven't answered my question of where you heard it from. I seem to remember it was at Ibrox from fellow fans. if that is the case then I would argue that isn't a great source. My mates say it will be Ryan Mason and he is 40-1 with a bookie online but it doesn't actually mean he is being considered.
15 Apr 2025 22:10:08
Angus ot was myself who said Ross Wilson was impressed by martin and he was someone the club were aware of. I don't get many rumours but am happy to post this as something I know is or was true what the situation is now that Wilson is no longer there well I don't know that.
15 Apr 2025 23:05:35
SWS are you Russell Martin?
15 Apr 2025 23:49:02
I have no idea who will get the job and to be honest I'm not overly excited by any of the bookies "favourites" or names published so far. Dinosaurs like Jose and Rafa ain't for me.
On Russell Martin I will say he didn't even have the 3rd best squad in the championship the year he got promotion with Southampton and he did use a variety of formations including 3-4-3, 3-5-2, 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3. His playstyle remained the same with underlapping 8's and playing through the press and the squad didn't improve enough when promoted. However he also chose to stick by his guns too much but Southampton were a rotten squad for a prem squad.
As for the chat about knowing the league and going for the managers that know the club. Feel this drum gets banged too much. Thelin didn't know the league and came in and wiped the floor with everyone until December. Fergie, McCann, Dodds and McGregor know the league and have went down 2-0 in what 70% of games. What we need is a manager to come in with a pressing playstyle that will create space with runners, moving the ball at speed and not always choosing the safe pass rather than exploit spaces left (Clement's approach) .
Who the manager should be? God knows but that's why I'm not the man to decide. I expect I'll be slaughtered by some but. **** it.
16 Apr 2025 01:31:25
Mental that people bang on about playing against "low blocks" when every team we play against in the league outpresses us. I wish we played against low blocks.
16 Apr 2025 05:53:59
Outpress outrun outfight can tremember last game we dominated.
16 Apr 2025 07:40:57
Cheers OWS I knew it was one of the Walters. no issue with any rumour but those on the site will know I have a habit to ask where it comes from so as I can see how true it could be. don't need names but a rough idea helps with the way my brain works. people can ignore the request but I feel I have the 'right' to ask.
16 Apr 2025 07:51:20
Think we're looking above that level, next 2 weeks will make lots of us very happy it appears. Except coops.
16 Apr 2025 07:54:12
Aerodomm, we do play against the low block most of the time in the league.
You are right, we do often get out pressed - but more often than not, that's by design.
16 Apr 2025 11:55:57
If you believe that sure.
