Rangers Banter 121514

Use our rumours form to send us rangers transfer rumours.

07 Mar 2026 12:13:01
I am not saying it's true I am just asking the question as it happened with PC, GIO and Beale.

Rohl come in got good run of form right away in the league and near the end it's starting to spiral it is actually mirroring PC when he 1st come in. Do you think it's going to end the same way? And he won't make it through the next season or do you think he will be successful?

He could also still be very successful this season with a double, but that's maybe wishful thinking from me for a change.

07 Mar 2026 12:48:32
Interesting post, Storm. It's all about trophies down Govan way. No trophies and the fans turn, as we have seen so many times. Stevie G got us a title at his 3rd attempt, and under special circumstances. He kept his job because of his name. I think look no further than Gio VanB.

Europa final and plums, then gone. So, jury is out on Dr here, as failure after doing the hard work may work against him. I hope he lands a double, as changing managers is a bummer when repeated every year. I feel we have a squad capable of a trophy haul.

07 Mar 2026 12:59:16
He has to be kept another year at least.

07 Mar 2026 13:03:49
I think most agreed on here at the time, Deecee, that Gio should have been backed and given more time. ???

07 Mar 2026 13:08:35
I see enough shoots of recovery after the Martin debacle to think Rohl will get it right.
He's possibly made a rod for his own back by getting us right back into a title race that looked dead and buried under Martin.
And I don't think Celtic's standards dropping has helped either, as we have a chance to win a title thanks to the poor performance of our biggest rivals.
Remember, 99% of us slated the same players at the start of the season that we now expect to go on and win a title.

So Rohl should get some leeway for getting a tune out of them.
Throw in Hearts being more consistent than Aberdeen were a couple of seasons ago.
When judging Rohl, all these parameters need to be taken into account.
That said, I think we will all be gutted and ask questions if this team and Rohl don't take the title fight to the wire.

07 Mar 2026 13:19:09
There will be players brought in during the summer, with players going out, so that should mean it will be more or less his signings for next season.
If it's not going well, especially in the league, by, let's say, September, then, like most Rangers managers, his position will be under threat.
I also think that he will be well aware of that.

07 Mar 2026 13:29:46
Sadly, I think the pressure has got to the manager and players this season. I wouldn't get rid of him. I'd give him a summer, and, with money to spend that PC didn't get, time to implement his plans, and hopefully next season will be different.

07 Mar 2026 13:33:11
Think it's accepted that Danny took us over and has improved our fortunes pretty dramatically from the RM days. Add to that, the club is in a more stable state, both in operations and finances, so we should be optimistic for next season.

The caveat is that nothing is guaranteed, and if we get knocked out of the cup this weekend, certain sections of the fan base are likely to lose their proverbial and start to question Danny's appointment.

07 Mar 2026 13:34:36
Gio was back to the best the club could offer. His league form was brutal. Horrific to watch. His European football kept him in the job as long as he did, imo.

07 Mar 2026 13:41:26
I didn't want Gio to stay; he was woeful.
I think we now know we missed the boat with Derek McCain. We should've brought him in after Gio or after Beale.

Paul Clement was a very good manager, but too stubborn in his formation, refusing to change when we all could see what he should've done.

I really like Rohl. I think he can be successful here, yes.

With a full preseason, and some more new players in the summer while moving others on, as well as current new signings bedding in even more, I think we're going to be some outfit next season. I back him all the way.

07 Mar 2026 13:43:01
There was a lot that went on behind the scenes that contributed to that collapse during Clement's title challenge, and then there was a lack of support during the summer, both financially and in other roles. I don't think any of this will be true for Danny Rohl, so no matter what happens he has to get a couple of windows to get rid of the dead wood that he's having to use, but that we can all see are not Rangers players.

The players he has signed and been linked with seem to indicate that we are prepared to go after a better standard of player now.

07 Mar 2026 13:48:51
Coops, I don't think that is true whatsoever. At the time, the majority, and I mean a massive majority, wanted to get rid of Gio. Maybe some have changed in hindsight.

Good debate, guys, thanks for the replies.

I believe he should get next season as well, and we all know that can change quickly, but I do think he needs the Scottish Cup at least this season.

It's the hope that kills us all.

07 Mar 2026 13:56:01
Most fans wrote the season off after the position we were in, but because Danny Rohl's been able to get us into the fight, he's shown he can lead and needs backed over the next 2 windows to realistically judge him imho.

07 Mar 2026 13:59:02
Rohl is putting something together. Man has only been the manager 4/5 months. His first preseason at Rangers will make a difference, so will the players he brings in. So we need a number six that can control the game, hopefully he arrives in the summer window.

07 Mar 2026 14:20:05
It's hard to imagine both Glasgow clubs finishing trophyless, but whoever wins Sunday will be strong favourites for the cup.

07 Mar 2026 14:23:59
Let's be serious and honest here. Our club could have hired my 7 year old daughter after the Martin debacle and there would have been clear shoots of recovery. If we are using a useless tool like Martin as a benchmark, then the game is a bogey.

I know this won't go down well, but I'm not here to make friends and influence people. Danny Rohl, at this time, does not have what is needed to be a success, and it is glaringly obvious. The cracks are appearing as his naivety and lack of experience start to reveal themselves at the business end of the season.

Let's be honest here. If the Tims had kept O'Neil instead of bringing in Nancy, then there would have been clear daylight between us and them. Anyone who thinks differently is kidding themselves. The Tims played a major part in allowing us back in it. This probably gave Danny Rohl a false sense of security.

Oh, and by the way. Even under O'Neil, the Tims are dire, but Danny Rohl is still to win a game against them while he's been in charge. That must change, and soon!

07 Mar 2026 14:26:39
You said the exact same things about Clement (who is a better manager than Danny Rohl), and Beale, Mystar. How did that end for both?

07 Mar 2026 14:30:03
He was in charge at the midden.

07 Mar 2026 14:34:48
Eh? Are you sure about that?

07 Mar 2026 14:37:24
So just sack him and start again, Sunshine, lol. Man, by the way, didn't his side win 1-3 at Celtic Park? Rohl gets preseason and a couple of windows. This ripping it up is bonkers again; the next appointment doesn't win a trophy and it just repeats itself, with us winning a cup here and there.

07 Mar 2026 14:42:28
Who said "sack" him? Is your ire making you see things that are not there?

07 Mar 2026 14:46:54
I think both posters need to read my post again regarding Rohl vs O'Neill while the latter has been in charge of the Tims.

I'll put it down to your ire distorting what's written in front of you.

To clarify, Rohl is still to register a victory against the Tims while O'Neil has been in charge. Better?

07 Mar 2026 14:48:53
Sunshine, well, what are you looking for then?
You just said he doesn't have what is needed right now. That sounds like 'show him the door'.

07 Mar 2026 14:53:34
You conveniently left out the part I said "at this time", didn't you, Mystar?! It didn't fit your narrative?

07 Mar 2026 14:54:11
Fair enough, Sunshine. I did read it again. Look at it another way: in Rohl's three games against them, his side has never lost in 90 minutes. Rohl needs preseason. Hopefully we see a fitter squad next season.

07 Mar 2026 15:00:45
Ok, I'll bite, who was in charge then?

07 Mar 2026 15:00:46
Cool, Sunshine. So, at this time he isn't good enough. How long is he getting to become good enough? He is inexperienced. He will only learn.

07 Mar 2026 15:01:10
Ah, you're back to the old "not losing in 90 minutes" argument. C'mon, mate, you know how that went the last time you tried using that?

07 Mar 2026 15:03:51
You don't need to bite, just read the post right this time. It's not rocket science.

07 Mar 2026 15:06:58
O'Neil, you mean n. It was Nancy. ? Oops. ?

07 Mar 2026 15:08:51
He should get as long as Gerrard got.

As much as Sunday was a sickener, we had them on toast in the 1st half, and only Rohl's naivety cost us. He can change this, and get back on track. He must learn fast, though!

07 Mar 2026 15:10:18
Correct, Sunshine. If you win the game in extra time or on penalties, it means the game ended in a draw after 90 minutes.

07 Mar 2026 15:17:18
There you go, mate. I've done it plenty of times myself on here, no big deal, Forky.

07 Mar 2026 15:19:47
It's like I've gone back in time. The last time you tried spouting the 90 minute mince, Mystar, you had to apologise on here once you came to your senses. Do we really need to go down that road again?

07 Mar 2026 15:20:07
Sunshine, hopefully he will learn fast. I did think you wanted him out. Apologies for that.

07 Mar 2026 15:20:22
Absolutely. For me, Danny Rohl should get next season as our head coach, to bring in more of his own players and to sell certain players if we're offered fees that are acceptable to us for them. ? My star, would you want us to sell Nico Raskin and Dio for the correct fee, mate? ? I would, and that would allow Danny Rohl to go out and purchase a no.6 playmaker to control games for us.

? I still think Connor Barron will very much be part of our first-team squad, as he offers different attributes to our midfield, and has the work ethic and energy levels, with a superb engine that we don't currently have at Rangers. ?

07 Mar 2026 15:27:41
You never need to apologise, mate!

07 Mar 2026 15:33:55
Apologise? Sunshine, if you win a tie in extra time or penalties, that only means the game ended in a draw, mate.

07 Mar 2026 15:36:28
Maybe apologised about the way I put it over, but not what I meant.

07 Mar 2026 15:37:23
Oh dear!

07 Mar 2026 15:45:10
I think we will be targeting better players than we have been, Strom, but your point is a good one, and no doubt in my mind that what you suggest would happen if we were still targeting /signing players like Lammers and Cifuentes.

07 Mar 2026 15:48:50
Sunshine, that's a simple fact, mate. If winning a tie in extra time or penalties is only because the game ended in a draw, unless it was over two legs, one leg, that's the way it is.

07 Mar 2026 15:57:26
Sorry, Mystar, but what does that even mean, mate? It doesn't mean the game ended in a draw; it means it was won in penalties or extra time. If, by your logic, the result was a draw, then we must not have got knocked out.

It's a cup tie, Mystar, it's impossible for it to end a draw. The reason for extra time and penalties is so it won't end in a draw.

07 Mar 2026 15:58:01
If your opponents win in extra time or pens, it means you have lost the game. ? Jesus wept, it's not even hard to understand. So Rohl has been beaten by Celtic this season, no matter how you want to dress it up; it was a cup game played to a finish, so you can't draw that game.

We got beat.

I agree, SS, if they didn't bring Nancy in, we wouldn't have been in a title race. They would be so far in front, and would probably have had a trophy in the cabinet already as well, but remember they are a worse bang average team than our bang average team. ?

07 Mar 2026 16:02:40
No, Boy Blue, if the tie is won in extra time or penalties, the game ended in a draw after 90 minutes.

07 Mar 2026 16:05:36
Obviously, you go through winning the tie.

07 Mar 2026 16:31:44
Guys, you need to stop replying to the posts if they don't make sense. It's not opinion, but meant to antagonise.

07 Mar 2026 17:06:47
Think, at the very least, you need to be looking to beat Celtic with home advantage and go on to lift the cup, otherwise the season is a failure for Rohl.

However, that said, I'd still back him to take us forward next season, but we must, no, absolutely must get rid of the dead weight from the squad, which is still substantial.

Matondo, Bajrami, Aasgaard, Aarons, Djiga, Cornelius, Rice, Antman, Tav, Meghoma, Sterling (injuries?), Ecen, Diomande, who are just not doing it nearly enough.

I get a few of them are not dead wood, but put in there for being past it or loans that I don't think will be permanent. Even if we bring in 5-6 players that are useful, it will improve us next year.

Could maybe add Miovski to that if not going to be used anyway.

Also need to see Naderi start getting in amongst the goals.

07 Mar 2026 17:45:26
Guys, let's get behind Rohl and our team, back them to the hilt, and see where we are at the end of the season. ? Then we go again next season with Danny Rohl at the helm, given time to sign new players, and continue to build his own team. ??? Let's support. ???

07 Mar 2026 18:31:39
So, extra time and penalties aren't part of the game, Mystar? A semi-final can't end at 90 minutes, so it didn't end as a draw; it's played till someone wins. Come on, Mystar, you're being silly, mate.

07 Mar 2026 19:00:18
Danny Rohl is still a very young, inexperienced coach who's only at the start of his career in football management. ? Of course he's made mistakes, and will undoubtedly make more, but it's about gaining experience, and how he learns from his mistakes will dictate how good a head coach he becomes.

? Even the best managers/head coaches make mistakes, for God's sake. ? Sir Alex, Pep, Klopp, Mourinho, etc. have all made mistakes. ? What makes a very good career in management is keeping the mistakes to a minimum. ?

07 Mar 2026 20:05:43
Going back to the first posts, I'm just pleased to see you being positive, Storm. I like it. ?

07 Mar 2026 21:14:22
I am sometimes Baz.

Bb4, it's pointless, mate.

08 Mar 2026 04:20:34
Boy Blue, quite simple, mate, the game wouldn't be won in extra time or penalties if it never ended in a draw. This does give me a laugh every time.

08 Mar 2026 04:22:16
That doesn't surprise me with you, Rosevale, as in making any sense to you.

08 Mar 2026 08:28:06
Absolute mince. It's one game, inclusive of extra time and pens if required. Game/match rules state "the game/match must be played till conclusion." "The game/match" are the operative words, meaning "till conclusion." A 90 mins result is a bookies thing, not a game/match played "till conclusion" under the game/match rules of the competition.
