It's great to see so many feel sg was a successful manager winning one title, albeit a very important one
Who on here will be satisfied if the new manager wins one title in just over three years.
30 Apr 2025 15:05:09
Not me i feel overall he was a massive failure. people can say what they like but he flapped at a treble and won less than st johnstone.
30 Apr 2025 15:05:38
John we maybe have a poor squad right now but nothing like the squad we had when Gerrard arrived, i don't want him back as manager.
30 Apr 2025 15:07:52
Managers now barely get 6 months of patience. Gerrard would have been sacked before he won the title if he had been in charge in the last few years.
30 Apr 2025 15:14:50
John2561 Nice to see you fishing again, if clement was still here you would not have got a title in the same time,13 titles in 14 years the other mob have won, no good berating Gerrard as there is a lot of people on here who would welcome him back, don't ask me the question I would welcome him back but not if the snake was included.
30 Apr 2025 15:18:02
Not satisfied John but after winning none in 5 it would be a step forward. not saying I even want SG but just answering the question.
30 Apr 2025 15:20:16
I'm never going to slag the guy off, but only because of 55! If we are all being honest with ourselves, his record was not good.
SG was exactly what we needed when we were an absolute shambles after coming back up, but right now, he's not the answer.
If it is him, he'll get my support, but I have a real fear, we'll be looking elsewhere when it doesn't work.
30 Apr 2025 15:22:51
The state we are in just now John, it might be worth gamble to win one Title in 3✌️✌️??.
30 Apr 2025 15:32:56
Was it not accepted Gerrard took over a shambles and was given time to build a team to stop 10
Also John would you not agree that Gerrard put our club back on the map in European football once he had a settled team and we have managed to continue that trait since he left
With. GVB managing to get to a final I believe Gerrard put the ground work in
What's your assessment on that part of his tenure John?
Can we also say mark allen and Ross Wilson done great jobs identifying all the correct players for him to build a team or did they also not falter at certain times with player recruitment?
This new manager is going to also need time build and the board will have to stand their ground and our recruitment team will have to give him players he can coach into a good side
John what's your assessment on what I've said mate interested to know your thoughts on my over all response to your good self?
30 Apr 2025 15:34:16
If it was one out of the next 3 i think i would be happy, i would see it as progression and will stop the Rot effectively, as long as it does not take as long to win the next one and we really need more Cup wins. A Treble would be the dream scenario.
30 Apr 2025 15:43:16
No. One just fantasists that tell them self gerrad had it harder than he really did. Splashed the cash and then bailed in the middle of the night to villa.
30 Apr 2025 15:47:06
John I think, like when SG first came. Celtic are so far ahead of us. Imo being realistic it's going to take at least 3 or 4 transfer windows to get us to a point where we are able to compete as basically how many of this current Rangers squad gets anywhere near Celtic first team including their bench. They will also strengthen and not just sit back and let us catch them.
So if I'm realistic and honest 1 league title in the next three would be good. I'm thinking the main difference here with the new owners and proper football men running our club, I hoping that when we do win the title, we don't not make the same mistake as when we won 55 and strengthen from a position of strength. Obviously I definitely think if we strengthen we will have better, improved chances of some cups in the next 3 years.
I'm sure that most of our fans will not be happy with that and will prob call for any new manager to be sacked if we don't win the league in the next 2 season. So I think the new owners need to box very clever when selling our long term plan to the fans.
Ps hopefully I'm wrong and we win the league next season and every season after.
30 Apr 2025 15:56:22
John, you need to look beyond the 1 title. Look at the quality of the squad when he arrived vs the one when he left. The absolute drubbings we used to take of them before he arrived vs instantly making us competitive. The embarrassment we took in Europe against poor opposition vs wins against top teams.
Yes the first couple of years his teams fell away in the 2nd half of the season. But he learnt from those and addressed those issues.
Personally, I think he is the most sensible choice. Someone that has done this exact task of overturning Celtic dominance with a very poor squad. There is very little risk attached.
30 Apr 2025 15:58:26
Who would you like to see get the job john?
30 Apr 2025 15:29:57
We demand more John, you are correct sg won an important title but I don't think that was enough. I'd say underachievement as a whole during his reign.
30 Apr 2025 15:30:31
John you have to remember the mess the club were in the summer he joined. We had players like Law, holt bates Clark he had to work with and immediately qualified for the group stage of Europa league bringing in much needed revenue in no way am I advocating the return of SG but it's not as black and white as made out. Our cup record was poor there no doubt and in answer to yiur question 1 title in 3 i'd accept until we build back up with a new manager. John are you asking because you've maybe heard something that SG will be appointed.
30 Apr 2025 16:07:52
I think a lot of our fans forget the complete shambles Gerrard inherited. Whether he was a success or not is open to debate.
I fear some of our fans will likewise forget the shambles our board inherited, and not be grateful for what they done.
30 Apr 2025 16:12:23
Further to my last post all of our fan base including myself are very excited about this takeover and what it will could offer. but If I'm honest don't think this is going to be a quick fix. we are in such a state atm on and off the park. No foundations, no core within the current team, no playing style, A captain that shouldn't be our captain ( only my opinion on tav) I could go on.
So I think whoever the new manager is our DOF and board are going to have to tone down the fans expecting and releave so of the pressure on our new manager. They need to be clear and honest with what their short term and long term goals are from the start.
30 Apr 2025 16:27:15
For all those say he inherited a mess what's next manager getting
Just seems many have become conditioned 2.
Hope fully this time round we can stop ten.
30 Apr 2025 16:52:06
A very good and well articulated point Zikos. John I think you are oblivious towards the point Zikos and a few others have made.
30 Apr 2025 17:00:11
Hi John, 1 title in 3 years is a vast improvement than our current ratio.
30 Apr 2025 17:07:00
John the next manager will be getting a better squad of players than gerrard had, so basically what your saying is whoever is manager that mob will win the league for the next seven or so seasons, with the names mentioned on here there's no confidence that any names mentioned are a guarantee of success, everyone of them is a risk, so who is your choice pal.
30 Apr 2025 17:10:16
I don't get your point john. Yes a new manager is inheriting a mess but we have some good players a new manager can hopefully get more out of and whoever it is will need patience.
30 Apr 2025 17:33:06
We need to build something that will win more than one title we need to build and win titles consistently like Celtic do winning one title every 5-8 years or whatever it is isn't good enough and never will be.
SG left the team in a better than he came in but it was also in his time which we are still paying for just now is players on big wages that's when it started with him.
30 Apr 2025 17:58:03
Storm I agree 100% . Ignoring the SG element and would fans be happy to win 1 of the next 3 titles if it was part of that progress. I hope we do but think it might still take time to get to that stage
re your point on wages I read today that the season before SG came to us Celtic's overall wage costs were 300% ours and the season he left our wages were only 14% less. we need to succeed whilst keeping our wage bill low as it creates extra funds for transfers.
30 Apr 2025 18:24:10
The new manager is not inheriting a mess like Stevie G did. We are 4 starting players away from a a good team. Your not a fan John and that's fair. I respect your views. But some support Stevie G. I was pessimistic but with proper backing his return could be monumental. World news. A rollercoaster. come back Stevie G!
30 Apr 2025 19:39:20
Not a big fan of SG but will support whoever gets the job. Worry for me is that from what you hear Beale did most of the coaching and without him SG has struggled.
