Souttar to Aris is apparently off.

12 Sep 2026 13:11:29
What's happened the John Souttar deal is off RFCπŸ€”.

12 Sep 2026 13:18:09
Thats not good for either party. Am sure by now everybody knows the story as to why he's not involved at the club. He will be desperate for a fresh start. Not a bad lad eitherπŸ‘.

12 Sep 2026 13:19:44
Sws, I have just newly read, outstanding financial problems between Souttar and Rangers and most likely John Souttar will still be a Rangers player.

12 Sep 2026 13:04:20
Would be a disappointing development for all involved if true, if you don't mind me asking where did you get this nugget of information from?!

12 Sep 2026 13:57:30
Failed his medical by any chance. Apparently he was offered a 3 year deal, pending a medical, which was today.

12 Sep 2026 13:27:56
Financial problems??? Have we not been paying him his wages what's actually going on??? Worst come to the worst then he's a good back up.

12 Sep 2026 14:16:53
Souttar wants a significant payoff and full payment off his signing on fee.

12 Sep 2026 14:42:05
It's online everywhere.

12 Sep 2026 14:50:33
Absolutely mental πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ what happens next?

12 Sep 2026 14:59:53
Saw it on Herald site that Souttar wanted a full payout of contract from us and was told no.

12 Sep 2026 15:10:18
To be fair if club are forcing him out no matter the reason he's quite right to demand his full pay.

Or he can just wait to jan and collect money.

12 Sep 2026 15:33:38
Weneedahero, why would we pay him his full contract because he is getting transferred? So should we pay everyone the remainder of their contract if we sell them? Wow, that would set some prescident.

12 Sep 2026 15:35:28
Can only see an article on Yahoo sports but from what I've read it sounds like soapy is now trying to hold the club to ransom in order to get a sweetener to go before completing the transfer.

12 Sep 2026 16:16:36
Orange, exactly what I was thinking. Doesn't make sense.

12 Sep 2026 16:20:12
If he's being asked to take a significant drop in wages to move, which I suspect may well be the case given the destination, then he's quite within his rights to make whatever stipulations in that agreement that he wants.

No-one on here would walk away from a contract for less than that contract guarantees. Well, no-one with any financial sense anyway!

Ultimately, Rangers are better off either way. Either he goes and they pay it, while also collecting a transfer fee, or he doesn't go and they pay it and get nothing for him.

Given the relationship with the club looks to have broken down it's hardly surprising that he's not just skipping off into the distance for a pay cut. This is what happens when you piss off an employee.

Personally, I'd pay it and take the transfer fee as we're better off overall. Nose and face. Souttar clearly doesn't care whether he plays or not.

12 Sep 2026 16:38:46
Gdog its not Souttars choice McInnes wanted him as big part of the squad. Cavanagh said no way he's done. Huge huge part of the fall out is from the scandal that broke in the news at Christmas time if you remember. It all exploded at the end of the season.

12 Sep 2026 16:41:33
I have left a job for less money and never looked back. Sometimes cash is not worth showing up every day.

12 Sep 2026 16:42:52
Google i agree he has a right to ask for the difference in the two salaries. If he is asking for full payout of his contract and getting a new contracted wage on top he is just being greedy.

He has no future with us and will only hurt his chances of both playing for another club and his country if he continues with his stance. He has been, well payed for doing heehaw this season. Time to move on.

12 Sep 2026 15:50:07
Stick him out to train on his own, pay him nada and wait till his contract ends, then he can p off, Waster.

12 Sep 2026 15:52:58
He's a greedy person! 😑😑.

12 Sep 2026 16:55:35
Sorry Gdog not Google.

12 Sep 2026 17:14:01
Ridiculous comment trueblue.

12 Sep 2026 17:35:19
JFM10, why? i am entitled to my opinion, i don't care whether you agree or not, your reply above does not differ much from mine except mines is a bit stronger, Souttar should be papped as all greedy players should be, end of story.

12 Sep 2026 17:43:31
Because you cannot pay him nada as he has a contract. Putting him to train on his own is not a problem. There is such a thing as employment law. That's why.

12 Sep 2026 18:44:00
If he refuses to go due to those demands then for me he'd spend the rest of his time training with the youth and attending every game to watch in the stands. See who wants to sign him and what deal he'd get after that.

12 Sep 2026 18:53:31
I understand why you feel that way Alloa but I don't think our club would treat a player like that. I think its in everyone's best interest for him to move. Whatever the fallout has been he's obviously digging his heels in. Hopefully it gets sorted.

12 Sep 2026 19:09:14
He's perfectly entitled to what he's due. He's not being greedy. We offered him the contract, whether you think it was ridiculous at the time or not, he's only wanting what he's entitled to. Play him or don't play him but pay him his contract.

12 Sep 2026 19:30:51
Scottish i don't know why its different with football or if it even is.
If I have a contact in a job for Β£23, 000 and I choose to move job. My new employer pays me and my old employers says bye.

I don't get the remainder of the years contract before I leave.
Why should he get paid up for a contract if he's no longer working. It doesn't happen away from football as far as I know.

12 Sep 2026 19:44:43
If he signs another contract with another club Scotty then he is due nothing more from us. Don't see what's hard to work out here.

12 Sep 2026 20:06:23
Since he likes running coffee shops then stick him in the canteen, he can be our very own Barrista.

12 Sep 2026 21:00:59
Can Souttar be guilty of gross misconduct and sacked if the scandal that came out be proved against him?

12 Sep 2026 21:49:34
Wonder if he'll be booking anymore "Massage" Sessions in hotels down south?

12 Sep 2026 21:55:48
He is obviously losing money by going to the next club, he expects Rangers to make up some or all of those losses, nothing unusual nor underhand going on here.

Souttar has a contract from Rangers, it's a lucrative contract, therefore it's up to them to sweeten any deal to end that contract.

12 Sep 2026 22:08:13
If the scandal is true, just sack him for gross misconduct and say bye, especially if he's wanting us to pay him a years wages and a fee.

12 Sep 2026 22:24:17
If we can break even with the transfer fee then just let him go. It was stupidity giving him a new deal.

12 Sep 2026 22:42:01
If he didn't get a contract he would already have left for free.

12 Sep 2026 22:50:21
If he's wanting a payoff fair play but if he's wanting contract payed in full before leaving he's taking the piss.

13 Sep 2026 00:33:32
If he wants full contract pay off, just give him access to training facilities when everyone has completed there's, he can then train on his own for rest of season, see where that gets him come next summer, can say goodbye to Scotland career.

13 Sep 2026 01:08:43
I'm pretty sure FIFA recently passed a regulation meaning that all signed pros have to be given access to first team facilities and can't be forced to train alone.

13 Sep 2026 07:00:50
So just say Souttar is on 17k per week this aris club offer him 10k per week he's loosing 7k per week he obviously wants his full pay and rightly so. He's on 816k a year aris are offering 480k a year just say so we have to make the difference up of 336k.

If we are getting 1.4 million we will work out a deal he will probably be walking away with a 250k payment if we make a deal if not he gets his full 336k payout. We still bank 1 million plus it's a win win just pay him what he's owed and bank the million.

13 Sep 2026 09:07:34
Wallace that's responsible but from what others have said he want his full wage plus's a fee from us.

13 Sep 2026 09:08:47
I love reading the thread when all the employment lawyers are on. Quality

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.

13 Sep 2026 07:37:54
True Blue your comment is ridiculous, you can't ask someone to see out their contract and pay him nada. You've blown your own opinion and argument by using the two very important words contract and nada.

To the others that want him out, something happened we all know that, but whatever happened wasn't severe enough to break the terms of his contract that much is obvious and nobody on here knows what his terms are.

As for asking for a full payout if that is true, it would appear that he doesn't want to go to Greece and would rather wait a little over 3 months for the transfer window to open again or if the club are "forcing" him out the door then he wants to be financially rewarded. He's obviously got an employment lawyer or agent who's advising him and he's perfectly within his rights to ask and we're perfectly within our rights to refuse, options and emotions don't count here.

Do you remember when the SNP stooge went to the highest court in the land asking for powers outside her remit and came away with that infamous line "its just not fair" well fairness and what's morally right or wrong don't count when a legally binding contract is involved.

Rangers have a problem moving on players and that's because we pay them over the odds, when you do that you run the higher risk of keeping them for too long and that appears tp be the case here.

Its Rangers problem not Souttars, as long as he makes himself available or heeds to what is in his contract or whatever Rangers have said to him he's entitled to his wage as per his contract details whether that's a percentage or full who knows but them!

My guess is he's waiting for the next window!

13 Sep 2026 09:16:09
He can get access to the facility's and train way Broxi bear then the C%#T.

13 Sep 2026 09:24:41
Some of the takes on here are quite funny.

A contract is a contract. To break it, whatever the reason (even a football transfer), both sides have to agree to the dissolution. And for both sides to want to break it without penalty both have to be incentivised to do so.

Rangers are, by virtue of a transfer fee they accept, happy to break contract. Souttar clearly isn't, presumably due to him being worse off at the end of it by doing so.

He is 100% within his rights to say no, leaving Rangers liable for the remainder of the contract. And in any negotiation he's perfectly entitled to put whatever stipulation he wants to on the table.

In his position I would (and have) do exactly the same and I don't believe there's anyone on here who, if removing the blue tinted spectacles, would willingly walk away from a legally binding contract that would make them and their family worse off just because the counterparty doesn't like the contract anymore.

And if Cavenagh has been as binary as we're told behind the scenes following a fallout related to Tav then he has to accept this was a likely outcome of that stance. Adversarial negotiations always include the party who feels "wronged" pushing for as much as they can possibly get.

The club need to keep emotion out of it.

Either we want him gone and we pay to make it happen, or we don't and we pay more so it doesn't. No point cutting the nose off to spite the face. Take the transfer fee, pay out the contract and move on. If we don't, we pay out the contract anyway, so logically it's a complete no brainer from a maths perspective.

13 Sep 2026 10:46:32
Coops legs the could 100 percent sack him for what he done but if the club have already made a decision they can't just go back and change it now he is wanting a payout it just does not work that way as I say if it's true at the time all involved could of been sacked easily en less they had a clause in there contracts saying that was aloud and I highly doubt that.

13 Sep 2026 11:25:53
I think the word allegedly needs to be used in some of the comments.

Like any contract, you should be paid unless you have broken its terms. So we can't just decide not to pay him.

However, we can decide not to give him a pay off. Either he wants to move for less money or not. Sure we want him to go but AC may be considering more than just money, perhaps it's about management vs player power, it could be that he believes the allegations and doesn't want to reward alleged bad behaviour - we simply don't know. Who knows what the background is but if both dig heels in he will remain here until next summer, train and pick up his wages. If it were me, I'd pay the difference of what he would've earned vs new wage and pay him off and write it off to poor decision making giving him a new contract in the first place. Better for all.

13 Sep 2026 10:42:54
Gdog, he wants his contract payed in full and an extra fee. we should not do this or it sets a standard. we get a fee but the player basically wants it. aye let's do business like that πŸ™ˆ.

13 Sep 2026 15:27:12
RFC - so we say no and move on, and pay him the full contract anyway.

What we don't do is throw our collective toys out the pram for someone doing what they're entitled to and what everyone on here would do in the same situation unless they have no financial literacy at all.

It's the expectation Souttar just does what he's told that's funny here.

No. He doesn't have to do that and I wouldn't either in his position. He has the leverage here, not the club, if they want rid of him.

13 Sep 2026 16:00:16
I agree about his right to being compensated per the contract GDog, but it seems Souttar also has to consider whether he wants to play football for the 2026/2027 season - or not play at all.
