Fabrizio Romano on X :
Rangers reach verbal agreement to sign Daisuke Yokota from Hannover.
26 year old Japanese winger set for move worth €3.3m fixed fee plus €700k add-ons.
03 Aug 2026 22:54:02
Terrible signing.
03 Aug 2026 22:55:41
Anyone have a clue about him?
03 Aug 2026 22:57:05
Out of nowhere.
03 Aug 2026 22:57:49
Terrible. He's far from Terrible with his other clubs. He can certainly take on a man 1v1, and he can def unlock a defence, but he might be Terrible, but he's the type of player I go for.
03 Aug 2026 22:59:31
Looks awful. 26 years old as well. Don't get it.
03 Aug 2026 23:00:19
Florian Plettenberg (Sky Sports Germany) also posted on X. Doesn't get much wrong when it comes to German Football.
03 Aug 2026 23:00:49
Banger, eh? I mean Banxger. How is it a bad signing? Never happy some people.
Who do u suggest we sign?
03 Aug 2026 23:03:14
So you've looked at the stats n just assumed he's terrible.
Geez, peace man.
03 Aug 2026 23:03:30
Banxger, why do you say terrible signing? Have you watched him play?
03 Aug 2026 23:05:00
Banxger, how do you know Daisuke Yokota is going to be a terrible signing. 🤔 Because you've never heard of him or seen him doesn't mean to say he won't be a good signing for Rangers. 🤔 Give the Japanese winger a chance, and sometimes these sort of signings out the blue, the nobody has mentioned can turn out to be the best signings.
🤔 Honestly, get a grip and get behind the guy instead of writing the winger off before watching him play for us. 😡
03 Aug 2026 23:05:09
He looks technically very good and has an eye for goal.
Workrate and pressing are being praised also. We've seen how well that works in this league very closely, to our cost.
03 Aug 2026 23:05:52
They have just activated a EUR2m loan clause so are making an instant profit on him. Hope he's worth paying double what Genk valued him at.
03 Aug 2026 23:06:02
Reid, you have never seen him playing. 😂😂 How don't you get it? We need a right winger. We've signed a right winger.
03 Aug 2026 23:07:45
The guy is quick and direct, his numbers may not be the best, but I recon he will do a decent job for us, a lot better than the gas man. 😅
03 Aug 2026 23:08:21
Boy looks absolutely class.
03 Aug 2026 23:08:58
Very strange that he only signed for Hannover last month, now he's coming to us.
03 Aug 2026 22:59:57
Can you elaborate Banxger?
If it's true he's coming, what are you basing that on?
He hasn't even signed yet. And he's been written off already 🤦🏻♀️
03 Aug 2026 23:09:25
You've got to laugh, eh??
We're potentially getting a winger we've been crying out for and before he's even kicked a ball he's terrible.
This is exactly the stuff I'm talking about. 🤦🏻♀️
03 Aug 2026 23:09:42
Let's give the lad a chance if true.
03 Aug 2026 23:12:32
He looks good!
03 Aug 2026 23:15:14
Having watched the Japanese at Celtic and at the WC, the one thing you get is a great work ethic and effort. If he runs and gives like Diazen does, I'll be happy.
03 Aug 2026 23:17:08
Time will tell. He's 26 and has poor numbers. Looks quick though. Think we should be going for a higher standard.
03 Aug 2026 23:17:14
I wonder if Hannover 96 loaned him last season with an obligation to buy, as he only joined in July from Gent. Maybe they decided to turn him tound quick style, as they had hoped for promotion and he wasn't the answer. Something is not adding up. A bit like his stats.
03 Aug 2026 23:17:52
We need a left-footed player on the right. That's what this guy can provide. It'll help with the overall tactics and strategy.
I agree his goal contributions aren't great, but neither was Mikey Moore's. It's more about what he brings to the overall team, and he will help with the shape and identity.
We're going to need a right-back that can overlap, though. McCrorie just can't do it. Even if McCrorie does go forward, he can't cross a ball.
03 Aug 2026 23:18:30
Clearly Rangers are becoming very adept at keeping things under the hat, as no one saw this coming.
Bundesliga 2 is a comparable standard, and at 26 has good game time, and is exactly the plug and play signing many here are asking for.
Will he be brilliant? Only time will tell, but if he is a winger who can cross and beat a man, then more power to him and I for one welcome with open arms. Yokoso Daisuke.
03 Aug 2026 23:19:58
Japanese players have done well in Scotland. We've seen it often enough.
Can say I don't know much about the lad other than the usual highlight reels, but if he signs he'll get our full backing.
And it's not a loan and not a guy from the English lower leagues, so that's a big plus in my book.
Folk really do have to calm down, the constant moaning is tiresome.
Look, I get it, it's been pish being a fan in recent times, but we are going in the right direction.
It might not seem at times, but we now have security off the park and we are now in the process of building a team.
We don't have the luxury of spending like Man City, and to expect us to just become a fantastic team overnight is ludicrous, it takes time.
03 Aug 2026 23:23:53
He's only terrible because his name's not Cerny. Some people are just never happy. Does he really excite me? Probably not, but I know nothing about the boy. I'll judge him once I've actually seen him play for us. We desperately need a right winger, we're getting one. Let's just hope he's the first of many through the door because the squad's desperately needing it.
03 Aug 2026 23:26:44
Mikey Moore had poor numbers. Maeda didn't exactly have good numbers before Celtic either. Let's just wait and see, man.
03 Aug 2026 23:27:46
Japanese players work hard and he's quick and direct.
Hopefully he does the business. Looking forward to Thursday night. 🤞
03 Aug 2026 23:29:06
Poor numbers? Do you think if he had high numbers he would be coming to us? If he was on 15 to 20 goals a season and 15 assists, do you think we would sign him? No, he would have teams crying out for him. Give the guy a chance for God's sake. Some people are never happy.
03 Aug 2026 23:39:34
If he is prepared to take a defender on then all for the signing.
Having been brought up on a diet of Bud & Coops, u feel for the younger generation who have been largely bereft of decent wing play.
03 Aug 2026 23:43:55
Was on loan from KAA Gent to Hannover 96 last season, there was an option for Hannover to buy (euro2mil) at the end of his loan, which they exercised, knowing they were willing to sell straight away for profit if someone met their euro3.5mil valuation. He had a good season in Bundesliga 2 going by reports.
03 Aug 2026 23:57:59
I saw something earlier about Kent being available on a free (I know, I know). He would certainly be an upgrade on Gassama, and when he's on it, he's hard to stop. Yokota on one side and Kent the other would bring plenty of pace and skill to the wings.

03 Aug 2026 23:53:58
Very strange how Hannover would buy him but sell him in the same window. Nothing against the lad. RM, L footed, speedy wee Jap ticks the boxes. Also there's a strong argument that the Bundesliga2 is a harder league than SPL. Easily. If you watch German football then you know!
04 Aug 2026 00:11:12
Maybe just maybe, he is basing his opinion on the stats of the player, and maybe he is basing it off of having a pretty poor season in the German 2nd division.
We have all screamed about needing quality, and tbh I would expect better, but I do agree that if he signs, we all get behind him, and he excels for us, and as we all know the work ethic of these lads is insane.
04 Aug 2026 00:23:08
Moore is a kid learning his trade and improving. This lad is 26. Don't see the point of comparison to defend poor goal contribution. Happy to wait and see what he brings.
04 Aug 2026 00:23:36
Everyone has been screaming out for a winger so here we are. As he was very likely further down on our list of targets, it tells me we either didn't want to pay what clubs were quoting us or the club were reluctant to sell and maybe just maybe the player didn't fancy us.
04 Aug 2026 00:35:35
Welcome, lad! Will have a better work effort than probably all our players and will try his heart out!
If you don't agree with me, you want to look at the work ethic of Gassama and Fernandez last match lol. 😂
04 Aug 2026 01:01:22
Hannover fans like him. Talk about his work ethic, he also played with the Colombian winger we supposedly looking at with Valmiera.
Considering everyone had said all the links have dried up, four lads and Rangers review both saying this to them supposedly make this deal I'll take it.
04 Aug 2026 01:09:57
CalB, maybe it's him that's been getting scouted, we need a couple of rw's, league he's playing in will have better quality than ours.
04 Aug 2026 01:18:19
I find it strange, we're targeting a left sided right winger when McInnes consistently mentions getting balls into the box and neither right back (Sterling or McCrorie) can cross the ball.
It looks and feels like we've worked out we can get a good player cheap and quick and we've exercised it without full consideration of what we actually need.
I'd argue till I'm blue in the face we don't need inverted wingers, we need actual wingers to play their natural side to allow 2 strikers to do well.
04 Aug 2026 01:44:40
Kaiser, because majority love Moore and didn't hit the numbers. I liked Moore too. It looks good when he dribbles, but all he wanted to do was shoot and a lot of his dribbles were back the way or round in circles.
From Adis stats, it looks like this boy is more a creator with big chances created p90 (and a better dribble success).
Surely Shankland & Chermiti would benefit more from having a better creator.
P.S. I know Moore is young and will improve a lot more, but my point is people loved him regardless of his stats.
04 Aug 2026 01:22:59
That's funny Banxger I thought terrible supporter when I saw your name. Give the guy 15 mins at least
04 Aug 2026 02:09:03
The only applicable insight I can find here is that FC Paderborn, the team just promoted into Bundesliga 1,
offered what would have been their club record fee to sign him, so the lad must have done well last season as to have attracted their interest in taking him into their Bundesliga 1 squad this season.
04 Aug 2026 03:21:15
Here is more information about the player:
"While his end product has been modest throughout his career, his standout attribute is his ability to beat defenders in one-on-one situations. He is an aggressive, left-footed right winger who constantly looks to receive the ball, drive at opponents, and force defensive mistakes rather than simply recycle possession.
Statistically, Yokota has been one of the most active dribblers in the Bundesliga 2. He has averaged around 2.8 successful dribbles per 90 minutes, the highest figure at Hannover and among the best in the league, with a dribble success rate of approximately 48%.
This means he successfully beats his direct opponent in almost half of his take-on attempts - a strong return given the high number of dribbles he attempts. Rather than playing safely, he consistently tries to make something happen.
Fans generally describe him as exciting to watch because he attacks defenders, carries the ball forward, and injects unpredictability into games. However, they also question his consistency, physicality and final product."
04 Aug 2026 05:03:07
@AR, isn't it Paderborn that Celtic wanted that midfielder from? Maybe this will kill that deal. 🤣
04 Aug 2026 05:45:47
Not sure why Moore is being mentioned, but obviously we would to see Moore on the Left and someone similar on the right, but fact is Moore is going to cost 30mill+ this Japanese winger 3 mill.
04 Aug 2026 06:01:56
Aye, stay away from those 26 year olds. Now, if he was 25 or 27, well, that's a different story. Absolutely ludicrous.
04 Aug 2026 06:03:30
Welcome to Rangers, where you are written off before you kick a ball.
04 Aug 2026 06:54:10
It's only YouTube but I think that he will give the majority of SPL right backs a tough time.
04 Aug 2026 07:01:22
Sorry, meant SPL left backs.
04 Aug 2026 07:10:30
If he doesn't excite you maybe football isn't for you.
04 Aug 2026 07:41:57
There is a massive difference between Scottish football and German football. His stats from last season might not show a good player, but this guy could be a gem and what we need. We need to stop judging signings until they have signed, as you get no time on the ball in Germany, which might not have suited him.
But, in Scotland he will get plenty of time, and this is why it suits Japanese players. Also, it allows us to break into the Japanese market and start making shirt sales across there.
04 Aug 2026 07:46:29
Canter only mentioned his age because of comparison with Moore. Bringing him into it will just give a negative response to him. Moore's stats were low, but people give him more slack because he's a kid and full of potential, which folk like to see. (Though he got plenty of criticism too). I'd rather just judge him for himself and hope he delivers.
04 Aug 2026 07:52:05
He could be good, but the fee suggests otherwise £2.8 million for a 26 year old winger.
04 Aug 2026 07:59:07
Another name out the blue - watched highlights to get a sense of his style. I think he will actually do well for us. Create a lot of space, chances and fouls. Predicting he will get double digit goals and double digit assists. Let's get behind him.
04 Aug 2026 08:04:32
Rohl, thanks for the information on him. Sounds like he'll excite apart from the parts about end product. Think that sums up why many don't like the inverted winger thing. Apart from the elite, there is a lot of very good skill that ends up going nowhere, and is very reliant on someone else, like the full back.
So their problem is consistency and final product like u said about him. Same can be said about normal wingers too, obviously. Suppose it's trying to get a balance. Personally, I like those that can switch to keep defenders guessing.
04 Aug 2026 08:19:05
On first thought I wasn't super keen, but after thinking about it I do have to say the Japanese are impressive generally. Their work ethic and technically. Hopefully he does well. Cerny was not getting a game in Germany and stats were not great from what I can remember. He came and smashed it.
04 Aug 2026 08:24:44
Negativity amongst our fan base is out of this world. Is it any wonder some players struggle, folk booing them even before a ball is kicked.
These folk probably go to games to probably unleash their negativity.
04 Aug 2026 08:11:54
Unless you've watched this boy consistently this is a terrible take. You are of course entitled to write anything you want but unless it's coming from a position of knowledge (watching him consistently) would be a good starting place 🤷🏼♂️ you're better than this I'm sure.
04 Aug 2026 08:50:37
Kaiser, my response was to Reidpt.
04 Aug 2026 09:06:53
Like the Japanese work rate and if he can take defenders on during him on, but there is no use scoring goals when we have teams like Falkirk, Motherwell, etc scoring 2, 3, goals against us, the defence is the problem.
04 Aug 2026 09:20:09
The negativity from a lot of fans is merited!
Many aren't confident in our signings for very good reasons. Our track record is appalling in truth.
So, those that constantly berate those who aren't happy right now, what are you not getting exactly?
This signing has some questions around it. We have never entertained Japanese players before, and it feels desperate.
However, that could simply be as some are in a negative frame of mind.
But you're kidding yourselves if you don't understand why some are totally fed up!
It's an uninspiring signature on paper. It feels cheap!
A bit like our club is starting to feel cheap.
Plus he will have the added pressure of being compared to the filth across the water.
So, it has all sorts of risks. Small and big.
04 Aug 2026 09:40:57
Seldom have I opened this site and felt so fed up with the attitude of some of our supporters. Writing a new signing off as rubbish before laying eyes on him is nothing short of disgraceful. Saying that signing a Japanese player seems desperate is ridiculous, especially when that person has been screaming about trying new markets.
It is nothing but pathetic. Wake up, people, we aren't dining at the top table any longer. When we are losing players to Hull City, it shows clearly where our place in the world is. To have decided that any player is not good enough without laying eyes on him is just ridiculous - Give the lad a chance.
04 Aug 2026 09:43:15
We need quality. This boy might be good, time will tell, but I still don't see quality signings. We need to spend some money on proven quality signings that will improve the squad.
04 Aug 2026 09:34:08
This fan base, man, people have just jumped on the let's stop signing inverted winger trend because we used to cross the ball to 2 strikers in the 90s and it worked. We generally play 5 backs almost every week that usually also consist of holding midfielders who sit in there box, and the majority of the time they are 6, 2 plus that's Scottish football. We could aimlessly hit the by line consistently, cross the ball and hit nobody and would the fans that scream for this be satisfied? No, they'd complain that we do it.
Currently we don't flood the box and haven't done for a while so by line wingers are pointless, it's also something I've not seen Mciness do, however I could be wrong.
If we were to flood the box have players like Shankland and Chermiti both in the box at the same time ( I know imagine ) have your left winger in the box and a midfielder or 2 I'd get behind a by line winger being signed but we don't do that. For example, we had a byline winger who had excellent stats before being signed - Antman - did we utilise him apart from his debut? No. The majority of wingers play opposite their strong foot anyway as I've mentioned previously, but when you're playing at this level surely you're competent enough with both feet which would irredicate this nonsense argument anyway?
04 Aug 2026 09:49:26
Braga's numbers were pretty bad before he signed for Hearts for less than £1m. Now they're looking at £8m+ for one of the players of the year last year.
I know nothing about this fella, but stats at other clubs don't necessarily mean anything.
04 Aug 2026 10:09:48
I'm really not getting people who look at him and say he looks awful. Tbh, for me he looks like he would be a great addition to our squad. Also don't think his stats look too bad.
04 Aug 2026 10:29:13
Stats at this point in his career are comparable to Maeda's in similar standard leagues and that other one seems to have done alright.
Dunno why we're expecting to be signing wingers that are 1:2 for creation, they simply don't exist, and if they did they'd be 80 million like you see some flops down South moving about for.
It's a changed world and changed game. Personally, I see pace, ability to take a man on and a good workrate - that's all wins.
04 Aug 2026 10:42:43
I'm going to go against the flow with this one. If he's our starting right winger, I'll be worried, doesn't lace Cerny's boots and for 4 million pounds he 100% is a terrible signing. If we paid 2.5 million for him to be backup, I'd say he's a solid backup to have.
And before people say anything, yes, I've seen him play, and I'd say he's mediocre at best.
If he comes in and plays with the same confidence as Moore had last season, he'll look a better player than Moore last season. But my biggest concern over him isn't necessarily the ability, it's the price tag, and can he do it for Glasgow Rangers. Can he be a game changer when we're 1-0 to Dundee United away? I personally don't think so.
04 Aug 2026 10:42:45
People saying he's mince, people blowing smoke up his archie, Sorry, Coops, but u were saying he's better than Shunsuke Nakamura earlier, then saying give him time. 🤔
04 Aug 2026 11:04:58
Some fans are deluded. This is the type of signings that can make you money, it's proven by the other side, profits can be made on this type of signings. Before Cerny signed for us he wasn't exactly playing well, Sima was the same and both done great.
Get behind all our signings and our team. Enough negativity from the other side without our own fans giving stick before they play a game.
04 Aug 2026 11:15:09
Antman had more goals/assists in a better league, more potential, yet we sold him after 1 season and are paying similar for this guy? Our recruitment team are just wasting money now, it seems, with no real thought process. Not writing him off, but for £3.5m, if he's not a starter, it's a waste.
Just was available for an extra £1.5m and we didn't even make a move! I'll judge when I see him play, but some of the transfers so far are a bit underwhelming. I'm not sure we have improved in any position so far. Time will tell.
04 Aug 2026 11:37:37
He's not getting signed as our main winger. We want a first team winger also.
As a back up, this would be a good signing.
04 Aug 2026 11:58:30
Think we as a fanbase are pre-judgemental before a player has even kicked a ball for the club or signed.
Give them a chance and 100% backing when they pull on the jersey.
I know we all have differing options, but No1, we want a successful team on the park.
04 Aug 2026 12:28:15
I've never seen the Japanese boy play so I can't comment on his ability, but the whole " we need a left footer on the right " argument is only valid if that player is the type to cut inside and shoot, i.e.
a Cerny or Bowen or Salah type. If he is just looking to cross, then it's too easily blocked off, plus, as someone says, you need an overlapping full back and we don't have one nowadays.
04 Aug 2026 13:41:05
I did a sort of deep dive into this lad last night, taking information from forums of his previous clubs.
He sounds a bit like Ryan Kent. All he does is run at people and take them on. He is successful at beating his man almost 50% of the time. Fans get frustrated when it doesn't work, because he plays high risk football.
He gets the ball, he runs at people, he tries to make things happen. He's not passive, he does not play it safe, he does not pass the ball back the way - he runs right at people. His dribbling stats are very impressive. Once he gets into a good position, the end product is often lacking, like Ryan Kent. So that's the trade off.
04 Aug 2026 13:43:41
Fork I was having a bit of fun fishing out the negative doubters mate. 😁
04 Aug 2026 14:12:41
No probs Coops. 👍👍
04 Aug 2026 14:16:29
Hopefully his attitude is better than Kent's, Rohl. I know I'm being harsh, but I couldn't stand the guy by the time he left. That doesn't sound that positive after all. We need someone who will actually deliver, not just run at players, but will create chances.
