Rusty i've said it repeatedly on here, tav is still easily the best right back we have at Rangers and max aarons is nowhere near as good as tav, even though he's almost 34 years old ? I know Martin has a style and a philosophy he wants and that's fine but if it isn't which it clearly isn't then you need a plan b
He hasn't got 1 It's just need to do plan a better.
We've been here before with a manger and know how this will end.
If we were losing games with a bit of bad luck here and there but could see progress then fans wouldn't be on his back so much.
But the goals we are losing is so piss poor it's terrible.

Alex I think you are right. We lost 2 goals in 7 minutes from mistakes. that isn't to do with a system or tactics it is about players not doing the basics. Djiga should have dealt with the ball as it was within playing distance; that isn't to do with a high line. then the players just panicked for the rest of the first half and we were lucky to just lose one.
hopefully the way we played second half will help them lose that fear they seem to have which McGregor pointed out. we seem afraid to make a pass rather than being incapable technically to make it. I know they will have taken their foot off the gas as the game was finished. if so I actually hope for next week they still think the same as it at least gives us a chance.
whoever comes in next has to deal with all the same baggage which we have both club and fans and will be right back at start.

Fork, he's copying the same flawed system he used last year at Southampton, you know, the one that got the club that low points tally and relegated from the EPL the fastest. When he was fired they'd taken 5 points from 16 games and had just been thumped 5-0 from Big Angie's frankly awful Spurs side.

We're asking the defence to play out from the back. The problem is we don't have the players to do this.
The only people enjoying this football is the teams we are playing because we are handing them chances on a plate and giving them more time and space than i can ever remember seeing.

There is no manager anywhere in world football who would have coached Djiga to tell him not to play that ball. Likewise, there is no manager who would have told Butland (or any goalie) to stand on the edge of the penalty area and allow himself to be lobbed like that. Two individual errors and nothing at all to do with tactics. The first two goals we lost were simply down to p1ss poor defending, the third was a phenomenal finish but again from an individual mistake from Rothwell.
I was underwhelmed by the appointment of Russell Martin, I am further underwhelmed by performances and results but this culture we are in of appointing managers and sacking them quickly has to stop or we will never move on. If we do get rid of Martin, which to be honest seems to be a matter of when rather than if, the replacement must be given time to get things right.
Frankly, Barry Ferguson would have done a better job but when you read the replies to anyone mentioning him you see where the real split is in the support.

Coach wasn't at fault for the goals but that doesn't matter. In the first half the play was ponderous and without any character whatsoever. The Brugge management said they knew where to find the holes and you could tell they watched us over recent weeks. As EHL indicated, Martin has the players at his disposal. There are some decent players in that squad and if Martin doesn't utilise them properly then unfortunately he'll be joining the club of the last 3 managers sooner than he'd like.

Agree DTB, RM not at fault for first 2 goals. Horrendous defending, third one also horrendous defending and by that point any slither of confidence had gone and it was chaos across the defence.
Having said that, overall the football is terrible and we are not getting the full effort from players, they look lost and confidence is shot. The in fighting/ split doesn't help either. The booing doesn't help. We are a basket case. We all believed this was a new dawn for the club but the early signs are that this a continuation of what went before.
We just can't keep sacking managers and starting again and again. I don't believe he'll get sacked but if there is no improvement by October or signs of progress it is a very real possibility. I am trying to get behind the manager and the team in the hope this comes together but already starting to doubt it will as many are. God its hard being a Rangers fan!

Could have put an u18 cb in and he deals with it far better than Djiga did for the first goal, 2 goals down after 7 minutes because of mistakes and the players confidence was on the floor after that, vastly improved in the second half, we need to win on Sunday.

Don't see how you can say Martin isn't at fault for the second goal, he and his coaches set up the defensive strategy at corners and we left a guy completely unmarked . There has been no improvement in our set piece structure even though we now have this guy Williamson working on them. Another failed ex manager by the way.
As for the players not being able to play his system or build out from the back, my question would be why has he signed them then? He now has 10 new players all but one he signed, so why is he bringing them in if they can't play the way he wants . Djiga is a prime example, he constantly loses the ball when playing out from the back, so if he's no good at it why bring him in. To be honest since the change of ownership the footballing side of the club has been a shambles and maybe Thelwell needs to go along with Martin.

Djigga has to take responsibility tge 2nd whos picking up the player who scored and the 3rd danilo and rothwell are too weak so they also have to take responsibility and more of a concern who on the pitch as geeing up team we've not 1 leader but soutter or raskin even rothwell should be trying to calm everyone down they be more experience than most so we need to buy experience to help the likes of gasssma or Antmann who was very quiet.

Do the bouncy - simples, it the coaches job to set the team up in a structure that optimises our chances of winning.
By pushing our defensive line so high so early on whilst playing with a GK that isn't comfortable coming out of his box, we created an opportunity that Brugge identified and exploited.
If we had set up a little more conservatively to start with, we could have mitigated that risk.
Not one member of the coaching staff today thought differently.

My question is always on those who say the system doesn't work or that the players are confused by it is where did the second half performance come from or the one against Plzen. you can say Brugge stepped off the gas or Plzen were passive but the players still played the system. so Martin now just needs time to find a way to solve that issue of mental fragility and lack of confidence. Even McGregor touched on it last night when he said players seemed to be afraid to make a mistake. if Martin goes the next one will still have to find that solution. there is no easy solution here.

Storm so the high line was caught out for 1st yet the defender was actually there at the ball and ahead of the attacker. It was the fact that the defender left the ball for the keeper which was the fault not the high line. I don't mind difference of opinion but when you say BS to justify your opinion you just make it look silly.
by the way when you say look for success overnight it isn't just meant that literally it emans that there needs to be time given. if fans or more importantly the owners think that is 2 1/ 2 months then that is fine but I suspect they will see that the players can play 'the system'and will give it more time. what is it you say, oh I remember now. Its been a couple years since i watched rothwell a he was an excellent player
I don't know if its age catching up or just another english midfielder that can't handle scottish football but last night rothwell was nowhere he was ment to protect that back four and he looked worse than lundstrum at least if lundstrum wadnt playing well he'd put in a few hard challenges to remind ghem he was there.

People saying it's not Martins fault for the goals.
A few have pointed out why it is his fault and they are correct the high line rarely works and zonal marking is near always a failure.
At times last night it didn't just look like we were zonal marking at corners it looked like we were marking empty space instead of people on the pitch.
That last night was nothing short of a shambles.
To put it simple he needs to go this is not working in anyway shape or form.
The board would get credit for just coming out and saying we made a mistake in hiring him and we move on.

Angus it does not matter if the defender was there or not, the issue being that we had that much space behind our defence (which ain't the quickest) so early into a European tie, how can you not see that is an issue? Regardless of the error, you heard what Brugge said after the game "we knew where the space was going to be"
2nd goal, manager and his coaching staff set up the players on how to defend set pieces so again managers fault.
3rd goal was absolute calamity from everyone involved but seeing Danilo take so much heat for it is a joke as he had his back to the man coming in, Rothwell should not be heading that ball away centrally.

The writing has been on the wall for weeks, Alloa played through our high line at least 3 times on Saturday and Kelly had to come racing out to save us . We may get a way with it against that level of opposition but a good side will see the weakness and be able to exploit it.
