So it's either Martin or SG according to the Sun. Out of the 2 I think SG is less a risk and may want the chance to rebuild his reputation and for that reason gets my vote. He knows what it takes to win a title he knows what it takes to best Celtic and he knows how to get results in. Europe.

Agree11 Disagree0

20 May 2025 07:55:28
If those 2 it shouldn't be up for debate. Gerrard all day
I'd rather rose than Martin.

20 May 2025 08:12:29
Martin has has success at a few clubs Gerrard has failed everywhere he's been after Rangers, If i needed to choose between them it has to be Martin for me and i don't want him either, if Gerrard gets the job (been guaranteed he's not) he'll need some backroom team, mans lost of tactics.

20 May 2025 08:19:48
The two issues with Gerrard. First issue - unfortunately and fortunately, we know what we're getting with him.

Second issue - how do we know he looks happy? That interview bothers me so much more than the fact he left us for the prem.

20 May 2025 08:20:22
From those two, I'd pick Gerrard.

20 May 2025 08:25:26
Gerrard was my 100th choice and Martin 105.

20 May 2025 08:28:43
Beale, not often u and I disagree actually mate so it shows how divisive this whole scenario has become for fans. Not in a bad way of course, just that people who obviously have the same outlook and opinions on pretty much all things football they are split on this.

However mate, your absolutely correct, the back room team is going to need to be spot on here. If it's not Beale then what is he going to come up with?
Stevie has enough contacts in the world of football that I think he can make up a back room team without much of a fuss.

20 May 2025 08:46:28
I went for Martin on Ed's poll last night, not bcos I want him, I'm actually dreading it coming true. I just feel the manager is going to be a name that all the chat has quietened down on.

20 May 2025 09:12:10
Least we can do all this again in 12 months.

20 May 2025 09:15:48
It was actually highlighted during Gerrard's active time at Rangers how one dimensional and inept he was tactically. His 1 in 9 trophy haul failure was also raised as a concern. Fans who had this view were attacked by those fans who failed to see this. Now most fans are onboard with these concerns.

20 May 2025 09:17:45
It's becoming an annual tradition John.

20 May 2025 09:17:57
I thought it was said that it's someone who has no previous links with the club, a whole new path being taken? I can't see them looking to invest and then go down a path with someone who is basically a failure at club management, why even bother with investment, Gerrard is not a good choice, he is nothing but a name, he's previously been exposed as not really taking the training so apart from his "name" wtf else would he bring, failed big style at both villa and in Saudi and sneaked away from us without the decency to do the honourable thing and resign, yes his management team won 55 but that's all, so thanks but stay away from the club as you ain't the answer!

20 May 2025 09:21:28
If only we could bring the late great Walter back as an Avatar. If ABBA can do it, why not us. Sadly and sorely missed.

20 May 2025 09:21:47
Already said this elsewhere on here but I think Martin could suit us better than people think. If you actually watch or do some research it isn't possession for possessions sake.

He plays with width and 2 underlapping 8's which could suit Raskin and Dio as we've seen recently with Raskin he is a goal threat and makes intelligent runs as does Dio.

I'm not ignoring the season he just had in the prem but I think some only focus on that point. The man knows his stuff if you listen to him and ex-players only have good things to say about him and his man-management.

Could he be a catastrophe. Absolutely. Could he be the ideal choice. Yes.

I would still prefer Marco Rose but we shall see how things pan out.

20 May 2025 09:26:31
I agree this is going back the way with gerrard he's damaged goods last 2 jobs, surely new owners want a different approach, whole new setup

Can see a manager name that is just going to pop up.

20 May 2025 09:34:31
IMO Gerrard would be a step in the wrong direction.
I'll always be grateful for stopping the 10 IAR, but we need better at this time.

20 May 2025 09:51:09
Watch cj novos post on Gerrard on YouTube the 1 in 9 is a stick to beat him with.

20 May 2025 10:15:08
Correct Mark, it is not lost on us fans that he stopped ten in a row but we are allowed to want better.

20 May 2025 10:25:51
Billy, I understand that when Gerrard took over he had the worst squad to sort out. He had one hand if not both hands tied behind his back. The year we won 55, we should have won the treble. That was a huge failure.

Gerrard did instill pride and lift standards in our club again.

He was guilty of playing his favourites even though they deserved to be dropped. His tactics were one dimensional and his football was slow and boring.

I also think that its important to note that during 55 Celtic were in free fall.

If it is Gerrard then I'll back him until its obvious its not working. I hope he has learned and developed his knowledge on tactics.

If its to be then let's go?.

20 May 2025 10:28:08
CJNovo is hardly a beacon of coaching strategy and football knowledge.

20 May 2025 10:30:57
Both are a disaster.
Billy it's factually correct and cj novo is an arse.

20 May 2025 10:32:08
If it was a choice between the 2, then I'd say Russell Martin - Gerard was very one dimensional in his tactics and struggled to break down teams who sit in. Also, 1 trophy out of 9 and in a season where Celtic imploded. Martin stuck to his style of play at Southampton which didn't work out in the premiership - but Ange is finding that out as well. Martin's style of play would work up here I think.

20 May 2025 10:51:01
I always think the 1 in 9 stuff is harsh on SG, albeit agree he should've won more.

Have to remember what he inherited, and the good that happened out with trophies (which sounds daft) such as how competitive we were in Europe, beating teams we didn't really have a right to. However, I do think towards the end his style was figured out and we were labouring, but I think if he stayed we'd of just about done enough to win the title

He wouldn't be my first choice, but I feel like as a relatively younger supporter who hasn't grown up surrounded by success there's an attachment to it, like it just makes sense hahahaha

Ultimately, whoever it is we have to get behind him and the new boards decision making.

20 May 2025 10:58:16
Gerrard will be an unmitigated disaster, 1 trophy in 9, one dimensional football, walked out on us at the first hint of a return to EPL, lots of poor buys, high wages, he's been unsuccessful everywhere he's been, we are only just recovering from his management. This is the opportunity of a new era at Ibrox we need to appoint someone with a track record and a vision for the club.

20 May 2025 11:33:55
2 guys who I've said all along that are in contention for it, they've both been having conversations with Thelwell and Steinsson since way back in February.

20 May 2025 11:50:46
Martin before Gerrard 100%. He had his time and blew it. 1 trophy in 9 is not what we need moving forward.

20 May 2025 11:56:50
Martin is actually a decent coach that's done well at various clubs, the compliant about him is he refuses to
Change tactics so similar to Clement or Amorim which is fine if things are going well but in my opinion you need a plan B and plan C.
The likes of Carlo Ancelotti changes tactics to suit games and players available and that's been our issue of late we have no other plan.

20 May 2025 12:00:16
I think Gerrard built the core of what is a good Villa side and many others failed there before him, Saudi wasn't a smart move other than the money and a few others with reputation have failed there too.

Give it a go he's a fair choice .

20 May 2025 09:25:57
MyStar! Martin is LESS of a risk than a manager who won us the title. And done so by inheriting a squad that contained Bates, Windass, Murphy, McCrorie! And others not worth highlighting! Some of us have short short memories.

Weird logic, but each to their own.

If you have 2 choices and it's Martin or SG! There is only one choice!

20 May 2025 12:30:31
Whether you rate Gerrard or not how can anyone say we are just recovering from his management, he won the league, he had a few good runs in Europe earning much needed cash, HE signed Bassey, Aribo, Kamara and Sakala who were sold for much needed cash and he left us 6 points clear and an OF win under our belt. He left a powerful squad that should have been built on and gradually evolved, which it wasn't.

The downward spiral of the club is down to poor recruitment under Wilson, GVB, Beale and Clement/ Koppen and lack of investment by the board.
By the way if you think we are now recovering from his time in charge, check out last seasons results and performances, we are in danger of going back to a situation where it will take years to recover.

20 May 2025 12:59:51
Gdog that is a very easy decision for me, Martin has had a better managerial career but don't want him either.

20 May 2025 13:04:35
Plus the fact Martin doesn't need help on the formation his teams play, if Gerrard is appointed he will need help as Gerrard has not really got a clue on that side of the game.

20 May 2025 13:23:05
Gerrard isn't a great tactician that my honest opinion. However you don't have to be in Scotland he got players playing for him and mostly playing for each other.

Martin i don't think anyone can really say he's not a decent coach coached in tough league and had Swansea and Mkdons playing like a spanish side on there good days.

Rangers are not Southampton we are not underdogs in 99% of games. Feels like we haven't managed to string more than 5 passes in 2 years.

However both will be sacked in 18 months ?.
