With the big 5 leagues transfer windows closing tomorrow I expect to see movement over the next 36ish hours or at least strong rumours breaking.
Maybe a few clubs need to move some pieces before we see the likes of Raskin move on.
If no bids arrive I'd hope Raskin is back in the squad for Wednesday.
31 Aug 2026 10:21:54
I hope Raskin stays tbh. Give him a new deal and the armband. Unless it's a straight swap or near to it for Lewis Ferg.
31 Aug 2026 10:27:11
Why would any manager change the captain within the same season? I'm not sure what that would achieve without creating a divide in the squad and an unhappy player. I don't agree with that in any way whatsoever.
31 Aug 2026 10:28:39
If Raskin is still our player at the end of the window, he has to be played or at least on the bench.
31 Aug 2026 10:45:38
Wouldn't think it would / should affect the players, Dado.
As off the top of my head, I'm sure Sterling, Godfrey, Raskin, Neil, and Shankland have all been appointed captains during matches from Pre-season games up until now.
Stuart McCall famously said that during 9IAR, Rangers had leaders all over the park.
31 Aug 2026 11:04:56
I agree with Dado. If Raskin had said he didn't want to leave, signed a new deal, he was the obvious choice, but just don't think you give someone captaincy then take it back off them for someone that was half out the door that didn't get the move they wanted.
31 Aug 2026 11:15:47
Sorry, Mr P, is Shankland not our official club captain? I can't imagine a situation where we get the best out of him after having the capacity stripped from him for a player who looked like he was leaving.
We appear to get more leadership from Drago than Raskin. I've never seen the behaviours expected from a captain in Raskin.
31 Aug 2026 11:36:05
Let's be honest, if Raskin stays he's going to be captain more often than not, as Kelsey will start most games as striker, so need to cause a rift by stripping Shankland.
31 Aug 2026 11:43:42
I think Raskin would thrive as Rangers cpt. Shankland is a good goal scorer, but I feel he would be better off focusing on scoring goals rather than leading the team.
It was my main issue with Tav. Let him do what he's good at. Neither are great cpts, but good at their role in the team. Capt needs to be in the middle of the park imo.
31 Aug 2026 11:45:29
I don't think Shankland needs to be stripped of captaincy. If he plays, he is captain; if not, and Raskin stays/plays, then he 'may' wear it.
Here is the key thing: Raskin wants a move, so if not now it could be Jan or next summer.
So we will be back right here talking about whether he should be captain. You don't need to have an armband to be a leader on the park.
31 Aug 2026 12:54:46
Shankland is Club captain, which might be a wider role. Only a small part is on the pitch, although possibly most important. So he is there to be the conduit between manager and players, set expectations with players, etc.
If any player has to spend their 90 minutes telling others what is expected and how to play, they would all struggle to perform at all, so, on the optics, what he can achieve there is limited.
He is there to do his job, which he did better yesterday and by doing that let other players see they are expected to do the same.
31 Aug 2026 13:07:20
He might be the official club captain, Dado.
But he hasn't been a regular pick up until now, and if we sign Kelsy, then he will definitely not be first pick.
Not sure players can look up to or be inspired by a player that can't get in the first team?
31 Aug 2026 13:19:35
Years ago Walter took the captaincy off Brian Laudrup, with his full agreement I should add, because he was finding it too much of a burden. I think he gave it back to the returning Richard Gough, but I could be mistaken. If Raskin stays, make him team captain and Shankland club captain, just based on the amount of game time he has.
We don't have to make a big thing of it and "strip" him of it, just speak to the players involved and get their buy in. The media will make a big deal of it for a couple of days, but as long as the players are cool with it, who cares.

I think changing the captain would cause more friction than solutions, mate. I stand by the statement of I'm not sure what Raskin has done to merit the arm band and I've seen more leadership on Drago's short time here than Raskin's years.
Let's see what happens, mate.
31 Aug 2026 13:30:11
Regardless of what any of us think about who should be captain, Steven Gerrard (picked Tavernier) and Derek McInnes (Shankland) are far better qualified than I am to decide who is a good captain for Rangers and who isn't.
Shankland stepping up to rattle that pressure penalty right into the top corner - after the amount of stick he's had this month and the embarrassment of midweek - shows the kind of stuff he's made of, in my opinion.
31 Aug 2026 13:53:47
Dado, n we certainly ain't getting the best of him with the captaincy either.
31 Aug 2026 14:06:53
8Gazza, give him chances, we'll see the best of him, mate, he's proven this time and again. Many were praising Hogh on here, Shanks has one less, I know both were penalties, but they still count.
Having watched Hogh closely, his hold up play isn't great imo, not saying Shanks has been, but not sure why one is being praised and one is getting tight from a huge majority. 🤔
31 Aug 2026 14:26:34
Wee counter to the change captain debate, why sign a 310m pound striker who will be starting majority of the games and leave the captain on the bench?
If Raskin does stay and signs a new deal, he should be captain. Been here longer and midfielders make for better captains than a bench captain.
31 Aug 2026 14:27:55
You know my thoughts on Shankland, BoyBlue.
But if he scores the goals (which all strikers should be judged on) and as captain leads us to titles and cups, I won't be shy in holding my hands up that I was wrong.
I've yet to be convinced on the evidence so far.
But what I will say in his defence, even just on yesterday's showing, he certainly finds himself in the right positions most of the time and I think it was Gassama (??) who blasted over when Shankland was in acres of space to be slipped in during the second half.
Oh, and who didn't love his smile when Aberdeen's goal was ruled out by VAR. 🤣
31 Aug 2026 14:40:20
I lived the chant from the crowd, MrP. 😂😂
Gazza, he's been in and out of a poor Rangers team. I'm not saying this is the case, because truthfully, I've no idea, but he does look like he's been doing extra training to sharpen up and perhaps lose some weight?
I think there's more to come from him.
31 Aug 2026 15:08:23
Noticed that Potato, think he was having a wee dig at Nesbit, made me laugh.
31 Aug 2026 15:55:09
Shankland doesn't even start most games. and its not like there's a top class striker keeping him out the team. its Naderi (lad from 3rd tier somewhere lol)
Unfortunately there is no REAL captain at the club and hasn't been for a long time.
