Who is the best player you've ever seen live?
For me, it has to be Gazza. I remember watching him play on football Italia and for England, before he made his way to into and being in total awe.
When I actually watched him live, it was even more special. I can't recall a player since him, that's got us out our seats.
Maybe you all can think of some though?

Most talented Rangers player I've ever seen live is Barry Ferguson.
Best performances by any player I've seen live is Faisal Mendieta of Valencia.

In a Rangers jersey, Gazza all day long, bit of a random one against Rangers, but Klaus Augenthaler of Bayern Munich, late 80s at Ibrox, they beat us 3-1, he scored a 30 yarder into the top corner and was absolutely different class.

When I was a kid, I saw a guy called Zoltan Varga with Aberdeen and I thought he was awesome, but Bud Johnston at his best was the main man.

Davie Cooper.

Loved watching Laudrup for Rangers, he was unstoppable on the wing and just glided away from defenders, and best player live from another team was Ronaldinho, who did unbelievable things with the ball at his feet and a smile on his face, just different class.

Got to be Gazza as well. Best player ever seen in stadium was Zidane. I also remember at Ibrox, I think it was PSG we played, and a young Benzema scored two belters. Just watching his movement that night, I remember thinking that boy is going to be special.

Don't you mean Gaizka Mendieta?
08 Apr 2026 06:53:17
Has to be Gazza, Cooper, Ronaldinho, Laudrup. ? Very special, talented footballers. ?
08 Apr 2026 06:59:48
Super Cooper, a wizard in blue. ?
08 Apr 2026 07:29:05
Bb4 it was Lyon he played for then. ?
Rangers, Cooper, laser, Gazza.
Just against Rangers or games I have been to is Ronaldinho, Messi and Henry.

I remember Ronaldinho and Messi trying to break through our defence in the Champions League match against Barca, but it was the wee man in the middle controlling the tempo of the game, Iniesta. He was the stand out player.
Best away team performance at Ibrox was Valencia 1999.

My dad took me along to Hampden during the summer of 1979 for a friendly. Friendlies can sometimes feel underwhelming, but not this one, as the game was against Argentina, with a very young rising star called Diego Maradona.
08 Apr 2026 08:18:48
Best I have ever seen live was Diego Maradona whilst at Napoli.
Ronaldo Nazario is worth an honorable mention as well.
08 Apr 2026 08:49:07
Davie Cooper
Pre injury Durrant
Kenny Dalglish.

At Rangers has to be Brian Laudrup, best I've seen at Ibrox was Juan Roman Riquelme. Honestly was in awe of him, absolutely oozed class on the ball, don't think he broke sweat and never misplaced a touch.

Laudrup was better than Gazza, loved Gazza but Laudrup best ever in a blue shirt.
08 Apr 2026 09:15:17
Strom is correct. BB4 it was Lyon with the young Benzima. We gubbed them 3-0 over in France, and they returned the favour back at Ibrox and gubbed us 3-0.

I forgot all about all the fantastic players that I must have seen over the years watching us in European action and also Scotland, but I'm still sticking with Davie Cooper as he was my first Rangers hero.
08 Apr 2026 10:25:13
Gazza, closely followed by D Cooper, best I've seen at Ibrox, was Karl Heinz Rumminage. He was a monster of a player and nearly broke the crossbar from 30 yards. Actually heard the smack off the bar from the main stand!!
08 Apr 2026 11:32:34
Showing my age here, has to be Slim Jim. Baxter, what a left foot. In those days, did the Rangers and Celtic players not go out for a bevy together?
08 Apr 2026 12:41:40
Loved both, but Gazza better than Laudrup for me. ? He was the best midfielder in Europe for a spell in his career, bar none. ? ??

You're bang on, storm/cheers. Something at the back of my mind told me I had that wrong when pressed reply. Lyon it was, thanks lads.
08 Apr 2026 12:57:20
In a Rangers jersey I'd have to say Laudrup and early years of Durranty. Outwith Rangers I'd say R9 Ronaldo, Dalglish, Riquelme and Atillio Lombardo.
08 Apr 2026 13:00:57
I swear I get actual envy of those that saw Cooper. So many Gers fans rate him the best, and they've obviously saw players like Gazza, Laudrup etc. He really must have been something else. It's one player I wish I had seen in his prime.
I did get to watch him for Motherwell, but I think he was passed it by that time.
Rude Gullit, "He was a Brazilian trapped in a Scotsman's body." What a compliment.
08 Apr 2026 13:06:18
In a Rangers jersey, Brian Laudrup definitely the best, opposition players Mario Kempes of Valencia and Lubanski of Gornik the night they destroyed us at Ibrox.
08 Apr 2026 13:51:51
I have to agree with Scrambled Egg, Jim Baxter was a great player, but later on Laudrup, Cooper, Gazza and many more were also great. I had the good fortune to see them all.
Outside of the Gers, I would have to say Ronaldho. He always played with a smile on his face.

Fork, I wrote Gaizka Mendieta, mate, and even when it was trying to auto correct to Faisal I still left it at Gaizka, so I'm not sure why it came through as Faisal. Perhaps it's auto corrected on the other end, as that is the word the iPhone is tryna auto correct on it even now.
But yes that's who I meant.
