I may be in a minority, but I'm not a fan of Souttar getting a new deal. Including a wage rise.
For me, he is injury prone & gaffe prone.
Some go on about him throwing his body about - that tells me he has either been caught out of position or one of his team mates has.
And as a senior pro, sometimes captain, then he should be organising those around him better.
I also think some rate him highly due to the incumbents round about him that they don't rate.
We need better.

That doesn't really matter what you're thinking, Mph. Rangers gave him another contract, and Rohl likes him working with him.
20 Feb 2026 10:52:25
Got anybody in mind about who would be better than Scotland's first-choice CB? Suppose you have one in mind, how much would this guy cost? Do you think he would be on less cash than Souttar is now, even with his pay rise?
20 Feb 2026 11:04:04
I'm happy for Souttar to stay on for continuity around the place, but would be looking for him to be a squad player.
20 Feb 2026 11:28:39
By the end of this season he'll have played 40+ games for the past 3 seasons.
I doubt his wages will be ridiculously high, and, to be honest, a wage increase from his previous contract seems like natural progression to me.

I know my opinion is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, MyStar.
Or we would all be football managers, playing the game how we see fit and signing / punting players we rated or didn't.
But you still need a balanced view on all things Rangers.
Otherwise we would still be stuck with Martin and giving him another couple of transfer windows as was the consensus from some at the time.
20 Feb 2026 11:56:43
Mph, Rohl wants him, and Rangers offered him another contract that works for me.
20 Feb 2026 11:56:50
But it never is a balanced view. It is one based on a fan's individual opinion. Not just you, MOH, but any fan's view on any topic on here. Not saying we can't have that opinion, but it is really just to have a chat about.
The club have looked at it, thought they wanted to keep him whilst considering, I imagine, injury history, team plans for the future, and the salary he wants, and have decided to keep him.
That is more of a balanced view than the view of any fan.
20 Feb 2026 12:37:09
I agree with you, Mph. A more accomplished defender would not need to be throwing himself into blocks as much. I'd like to see a player of Goldson's standard, who organised the backline and read the game well.
20 Feb 2026 12:50:51
Like everyone else, Mph, you are allowed an opinion. I, for one, respect your opinion, even if we do not always agree.
As you know, only certain opinions matter to some on here. There are some who believe only their opinions matter, and anyone who disagrees with them means nada.
I have to laugh at a certain poster posting about "balance"! Didn't you know that only he can bring "balance" to the debate? He spouts about it enough. ?? The Jedi master!
20 Feb 2026 13:06:07
Doesn't have to be a balanced view. Take a stance and invite discussion.
Isn't that what a discussion forum is for?
Or have I completely misunderstood the purpose of them?
20 Feb 2026 13:17:10
What a strange thread.
Mph, I disagree with you as I rate Souttar, but, as always, I appreciate the way you share your opinion and frame your argument.
Without such posts, this whole site is kinda pointless.
20 Feb 2026 13:32:39
100% agree with you, Mph, and, to the hierarchy of the group, Mystar and Angus fans are still allowed an opinion. It can be different from the club manager and you too. ? This place is getting worse because two people think they run this site.
20 Feb 2026 13:35:01
Well said, Ehl.
Also, I don't agree with Mph's opinion, even though I value and respect it. I think Souttar staying is a good thing and I'm happy with this.
20 Feb 2026 13:35:03
Forgot to say, good post, SS.
Ehl, I agree with you. The site would be pointless without such posts. At least you get others who do, but many do not, and it is getting very boring because of it.

We need Scottish players, so it's not just as straightforward.
On the whole he's been above avg. He has had some really good games, and has a tendency to give away a goal or two, or let in dangerous play.
He's at his best when we need desperate cover, often throwing himself at everything. That so often gets overlooked.
Happy he's in. Do we need better? Yes!
20 Feb 2026 13:42:05
I rate Soapy. Yes, he has got a brain fart in him, but his siege defending and blocks have saved us many a time. I fully expect a few defenders to come in the summer, and I am not saying he's a stick on to be a starter, but I think it's good business.
20 Feb 2026 13:42:48
I was not bothered either way, because he is a good defender, but I don't think he brings the leadership needed for a Rangers CH. I just feel he is too quiet on the park, and that part of his game has not developed how I would have hoped.
I think it's a bit harsh to say he is injury and gaffe prone. He has played a consistent number of games each season with us, so I feel that's more to do with the start of his career.
He does make the occasional error, but at our level who does not? All our defenders and midfielders are prone to that imo.
Overall it's probably a good step because of the OOC players in the summer. He is also good for coefficient, and a good squad player.
20 Feb 2026 13:43:20
Mph, I disagree. It's your opinion, though, which is ok tho. My feeling is defenders and keepers, when they make a mistake that leads to a goal, get highlighted. Soapy fits the Euro bill and is a decent player, not the best but not the worst.
1 area of the team, aka defence, in the close season will be near a rebuild, so personally I think it's sensible to re-sign him.
20 Feb 2026 14:00:23
where did I say MPH or anyone wasn't allowed an opinion. I was simply saying that whilst good to discuss we weren't aware of all the issues. In fact I even said it wasn't MPH but all fans including me who don't know hat is happening in the background.
I said that it would only be the club who knew and they decided 'on balance' that Souttar was worth another contract.
Storm just so I can change what I do. how do I put my opinions out there without appearing as if I run the site. next question why do the Eds let those opinions through if they think I am trying to run the site. surely I would be banned if I was out of order.
20 Feb 2026 14:15:05
Missed a lot of oooft's up there. ⬆️???
20 Feb 2026 14:28:02
I'm definitely of the opinion that I'm delighted Big Soapy is staying and has signed a potential 2 year deal, as I rate him. ? However, everyone is entitled to their opinions, and that's what makes this site, with debates on each other's opinions. ? ??
20 Feb 2026 15:12:30
Differing opinions are what make this place the place it is. I can see how, initially, Souttar seemed injury-prone, but as a Scottish player, I like him, and I'm sure that even with the rise he is on a reasonable wage within our budget. The main thing, I suppose, is Rohl must rate him.
