MrPotatoHead has written an article entitled, What Do We Expect From A Rangers Striker?

Hold the ball up, bring others into play, good positioning and the ability to take the chances Dessers wastes. It's not too much to ask.

Striker that will take his chances. boydy would struggle in this current team, other players need creat the chances. Old saying is 18yard box striker. Not had that since boydy. Their is a certain striker at hearts that would thrive at gers with right players creating chances tho.

Every single striker wastes chances, name one who doesn't, u can't they don't exist.

Said in a post recently that the issue is that we don't have a striker that can mix it up and lead the line well and hold it up for the team in certain games, in the last few months we have saw a vast improvement in Dessers game and his goal tally is good but he's not a striker that will do the things I've mentioned when needed, think we need a blend of three strikers that have different attributes, we had that before when we were successful. More options and more quality is what's needed.

Good article.
Why did Dessers not make it into team of the season for all his goals? Should be a given for top scorer usually? Either because he wasn't voted by his fellow players or that people just don't rate him in general. Its not limited to Rangers fans.
He grabs goals can't deny that, I want more all round from a striker. He can be anonymous for 90% of matches. Offside and on his arse. I genuinely believe with a striker who links up better and can run the channels would create more team goals. there's an argument he doesn't get the supply but i think that's wrong and you don't score AND miss that many chances if you have poor service.
The question is do we keep him on at 31 and pretty much be another in long line of players who run contract down? Or stick with Igamane who has far more natural ability and potential.

If only we could find someone that could score 25 goals a season and stay injury free?.

Mph I've stated that no player has ever changed my thinking of them like dessers. Has he ever been injured? I can't think of a time he was. I'm actually all in on keeping him. Your right we did all cry out for a 30 goal striker and basically have it, however the one thing that let's him down is his ability to hold the ball up and bring others into play. When playing the loan striker it's hugely important our striker is able to do that. As you mention are we really going to get a striker that's excellent at both, for the money we'll be paying, I'll doubt it. Maybe people will realise what we had if he goes l.

We want a guy who finishes like McCoist or Negri, heads a ball like D. J, has the power of Hateley, mobility of Colin Stein, pace of Jim Forrest and turns like Mols . Simples.

Dessers scores goals, works extremely hard for the team and is very rarely injured.
He's also pretty poor at running the channels, at leading the press and playing in tight spaces.
His hold up play is actually awful and he contributes very little in terms of assists.
In my personal opinion, if all you are going to bring is goals you need to be absolutely ruthless and he's not.

Need someone who can press from the front. Hold the ball up to link the play and get us goals. Alfredo Morelos with a better attitude.

The striker some fans want MPH Rangers can't afford.

Football is fine margins.
I like Dessers, but not as a main striker in a team who wants to win trophies, because he consistently misses the big chances. The ones that make a difference at the end of the season. He scores goals, no doubt, but anyone in here who says they'd back him in a 1-2-1 to win the league hasn't been paying attention.
When compared to someone like Kyogo as a recent example. He never scored as many goals as Dessers, but in big games when it mattered he only needed one chance to decide the game. Dessers doesn't have that in his locker and we've seen it over 2 seasons (think the tap in at County that probably wins us the league, or the chance at Dundee) .
So there's nuance to the argument of those saying "but he scores goals". No-one who doesn't think he's our man denies this, we just don't trust him to score the goals that matter.
Let me give another example from our own team in years gone by: Dado Prso. Didn't score as many goals as Dessers (from memory) and played beside a little guy (Novo) who scored more than him, but Prso scored big goals when it mattered and brought a hell of a lot more to the team than just those goals, which Dessers doesn't.
I think there's more to a central striker than just the number of goals he scores. He needs to be someone we would choose to put into a 1-2-1 on the final day to win the league.
I think anyone who says they trust Dessers in that scenario is either lying for their argument or hasn't been paying attention the last 2 years.
Good guy, hasn't been anywhere near as bad as many make out, has actually done OK. But to win back the title, not our huckleberry in my opinion.

I would agree Gdog?.

Dessers is a fantastic striker to have in the squad, I'd hope for him to be one of 3 next season with igamane and another.

EHL you are spot on with that post.
