What’s the latest on Fredo and Kent? Seems the most protracted contract talks ever. Will it be the same as Goldson last minute? Not a very good way to do business. I’d think either they are close which is why no word on a sale or no one wants them.

Interesting post earlier in the window that suggested that if Kent and Morelos wait until their contract expires and then sign a new deal that the sell on % is no longer applicable. ED Do uou know if this is correct. If so then it makes sense why there is no panic as both may have the intention of signing again.
{Ed002's Note - Looking at the TMS I cannot see any time limitation on his sell on clause. For Morelos it is slightly different as HJK Helsinki did not own the full rights to the player and his previous club Indepeniente Medellin are claiming part ownership rather than a sell on clause - that could be negotiated away for a fee. Helsinki will also get 10% of any profit Rangers make on a sale.}

I mentioned this yesterday.
My thinking was if contact expires the player becomes a free agent. If he is then resigned as a free agent then the previous contract would no longer be valid.
Really not sure but that maked sense to me.
Could be clutching at straws as would like to keep hold of Kent.

I can not see us getting anyone in now. Seems the links are all very sketchy. I do think this is a huge gamble as Aberdeen game showed we do not have the strength and depth of a squad needed to ensure the league is won. “they†are an awful team at the back but seem to be free scoring just now. What’s everyone thoughts?

They've only scored 14 in their last 8 league games (since last international break) . Hardly free scoring. By contrast we have scored 15 in that time.
Agree that we do need at least one attacker if not two. Hopefully we get someone who can play RW and will improve the 1st team.

When you get a new player there is always a gamble as they may not shape up as good as the scouting has seen them. They may not shine in training or may struggle to deliver at such a big club with huge expectations. This is the way of it, some bed in right away and become regulars, others never seem to get there for various reasons. It doesn't mean that our recruitment is flawed, it's just the vagaries of the game.

Aberdeen we’re far better than us last night. Passing the ball well whilst we struggled. It really highlighted how much we need new signings. Yet it appears nothing been done just speculation. Spending numerous amounts of money on players doesn’t guarantee you success or that the player will be any better than someone who costs the fraction of the cost, I believe the club are handling things well by not spending over the top unless we see genuine talent and believe they will get us more money in the long run, look at Celtic spent 10 million on ajeti and barkas and both are no longer wanted at the club in less than a year.

The fact of the matter is we need to buy low and sell high. That is what our financial model is. There are plenty of bargains out there and I trust our recruitment team and management to find those players.

Top money for gerrard, and a new management team in the door within a week. top money for patterson, held out for what we believed was his valuation and got a top deal. Made it clear this will be case going forward. No more of the press knowing who we sign straight away. Imo slowly but surely his work getting more and more impressive.

@John Probably the thinness up front and at the back? Once Alfie goes to Colombia we've got no one up top available - Roofe still injured, Sakala the only other, hence Itten recall. And defence a bit thin too - injuries all over. If everyone is available you're bang on, squad is probably on the overly large side, but if you remove all the current 'unavailables', it's a wee bit stretched in some areas.

Brought in 12 million for a player sitting on the bench, If Souter comes in and Simpson goes that’s good business especially if herlander is nearly fit again. Goldson goes in the Summer. Defoe not playing and having Itten on loan is not our model of business. So itten coming back makes sense. Get rid of Lunstrum and a few other to free wages and bring in loans. If required. But think also we can't be complacent with who we have still in the squad. There are issues with quite a few re fitness and attitude, only my opinion of course.

He seems to be doing well at AV. I liked him and respected him as a manager. The manner in which he left will always leave a bitter taste. I do wish him success though.
