Read Keith Jackson's article online this morning stating that Dujon Sterling will have interest from the English Premier League if he keeps remaining injury free and performing the way he's playing for Rangers just now. 🤔 He goes on to say that Rangers are not worried as Dujon Sterling's contract hasn't long to run and have no reason at all to doubt he's very happy at Ibrox. 👍
However if Rangers do get a sniff of interest in Sterling from the English Premier League, they would act accordingly as McInnes rates him highly and offer him a new contract possibly until 2030, which would allow Rangers to get a big transfer fee for him and if Sterling depending on the interested club wouldn't stand in Sterling's way, if the interested club met our valuation. 🤔
Jackson in the article states that if Sterling did sign a longer contract with Rangers, that article states Rangers could well get £15 million for him if he remained injury free and playing as good as he is. 🤔 On form he is an English Premier League quality right back for me. 👌🇬🇧 What's our thoughts on this article fellow bears 🤔.
I don't think anyone would pay 15m for someone who injury prone but if he stays fit I'd 100% be offering him an extension. he's the best defender in terms of defending as a full back in Scotland by a long way.
No chance someone will pay £15m for Sterling IMO.
Coops I think on ability mate he's certainly a £10-25m fullback.
However I don't think we'd get that due to his injury record and age.
I think with say 3 years to go in summer and if he remains injury free all season which is doubtful then I'd say expect a value from other clubs of £5-6m maybe £8m tops q.
Aye, we sign him up for an extended contract and he gets injured and we are saddled with him.
We tried to offload Sterling in the summer for around £2m with no buyers. This is the reality.
10-15***.
Geesa that would be my worry and the likelihood. A
I'd be happy to let him go in the summer. Sadly.
SWS, I would politely disagree.
Sterling is in good form at the moment but I don't believe he is in any way an EPL quality right back.
I did not believe Tavernier to be that during the unbeaten season and his form was better than Sterling is now.
Guys of course we all have our opinions but if we've now got to the bottom of Dujon Sterling's injury issues/problems, why would we not want to keep a right back of his ability and how much would it cost us to replace Sterling with a right back of similar ability 🤔 Clearly derek McInnes rates him very highly and easy to see why 👌🇬🇧.
I will eat my hat if Sterling moves to a Premiership side.
Instead of debating a value, why not be more positive. If he stays fit and if he continues to perform at the level he is now, what a player we have for a few future seasons!
That's the gamble.
Rewarding him with a new contract and hoping he stays injury free.
I really like Sterling but we've been bitten too many times in the past with the "best player in a certain position when fit" scenario.
SWS, I for one hope that the club make the sensible decision and move on from him in the summer.
Ten gallon or sombrero EHL😉👍.
I like Sterling and rate him highly but I don't see him as a £15million signing for an EPL club . The article makes no sense to me , if we rate him highly, which we should, why would we not be worried that his contract hasn't got long to run and why would we wait until EPL clubs are sniffing around to offer him an extension .
By that time we would risk losing him for nothing and he would be more likely to go as he would make more make money personally and might feel unwanted as we hadn't offered him a new deal. If we are happy about his fitness then we should offer him an extension now and if he won't sign then look to sell him at the correct time.
EHL, have to agree with you mate, we couldn't give him away in the summer!, Championship level at best imo. if we get 5+ for him we will bite anyone's hands off.
Good to see him fit and playing regularly and long may it continue.
Easily a handful of clubs in the EPL where Sterling is a better rb than they have now, we keep on hearing about his injuries, nobody think his operation last April sorted his problems? he's been fit for just about a year now.
Let's see how the full season goes for Dujon, before getting carried away.
For me, he is a rock solid defender, brilliant on one v one and has a good turn of pace. If he stays fit I would be massively in favour of extending his contract - he is an asset despite injury/ health conditions.
Keep on hearing about Villa moving for Raskin, where I'd rather have Sterling rb than Cash.
If he plays to end of season without getting injuries then why wouldn't you take the chance on him geesa? How much millions are we going to have to spend to replace him and no guarantee they are any good?
Spot on My star and WishyBear 👍EHL would you like sauce, mustard or both with that hat you're going to be eating 🤪.
If other clubs are doing their homework would they actually be thinking spending any sort of money on a player who recently be done drink driving.
Teddy the man made a mistake, could that be the reason McGregor stayed at Celtic after his dd charge? I wouldn't have thought so.
A dd wasn't far away from taking my life in April 2020, so I have a very good reason for disliking anyone driving a car whilst under the influence, hopefully Sterling has learned and wouldn't even think about doing the same again.
Fork, I'd eat both and throw in a Fedora for dessert.
Matty Cash is a far superior right back than Sterling.
As others have said we couldn't even give him away in summer.
People getting as delirious about Sterling as they did for Barron, we see how much top clubs were interested in him.
How anyone can say that Raskin a Belgium international is not good enough for EPL but can say that Sterling/neil and whoever else who can't get near an international set up is good enough is beyond me.
I am sorry but it just makes no sense.
Not a hope of anything remotely close to 15m , a fraction is closer, Sterling is at his optimum right now against Kilmarnock and Dundee, and occasionally against Celtic if the entire team is playing well, not a chance he could last long in the epl , it's a dramatic step up and is the reason so many go straight back down, they spend millions on reserve players, they are not even going to be looking at Sterling unfortunately, he is earning more money than his ability deserves imho, but he does a job here and now.
Lol kinda think your right EHL, but to be fair the big man is doing well and showing what he's capable of injury free.👍.
Nato in your opinion certainly not mine.
Nato in my opinion, Sterling is a far better rb than you seem to give him credit, easily the best rb in our league.
Too many holding his dd charge against him, same with injuries, hopefully his operation in April sorted his problems, again soon will not have missed any games for a year, only missed the Falkirk game because of the pitch they play on.
The question is not about ability it's about his injury record. He has done well but it's only October. He would need to go the full season for me before I offered him an extension.
Pieter, same with his contact, Sterling's contacted until May 2028.
On form he is playing as the best right back in the league yes.
I believe Kosta to be more talented and certainly of a far higher ceiling.
Sterling would be third choice at Aston Villa in my opinion.
Wan Bissaka and Cash are far superior.
Star, his base contract is May 2027.
Some liked Connor Barron a few showed extreme dislike of him, but nobody ever got "delirious" about him.
Nato, Sterling signed a year extension. his contract is now May 2028.
I just feel his mistake of the park and he'll never get the credit from some like he deserves it, he was outstanding at Celtic park.
Him constantly playing rb and going Injury free, he's now showing the player he can be, Cash is a player I'm never been impressed with when watching Villa, actually the opposite of impressed.
Nato, I have liked what we've briefly seen from Nedeljkovic.
When did this extension take place my friend?
Information I have is Sterling has a contract until the end of the season with the club holding an option to extend for 1 more year.
I don't watch a lot of EPL but on the occasions I have Cash is a player that I am impressed by.
No one, especially me is debating whether Sterling is doing a good job at the current moment and credit has been given for that.
But he and Makhanya have been spoken about at length and now equating to a 15 million pound player.
For Sterling that is simply not true and being in good form for Rangers in the current climate unfortunately does not equate to being EPL quality.
Let's enjoy the form that he is in without blowing things out of proportion.
When Sterling was 20yrs old he had already spent 12yrs at Chelsea before going on loan to Coventry for a season and played 41games for them! Played for England U16s, 17s, 19s and 20s all injury free. Kosta (20yrs old)has been riddled with injuries for the last few years while Sterling had one injury before joining us(I believe) then the one he got while here that kept him out for the season, he hasn't been riddled with injuries his full career like some seem to think.
A lot of people are forgetting Sterlings pedigree, he's an excellent footballer on his day. We won't see Kosta this season if Sterling keeps his current form up. At 26 I'd be more than happy for him to be our starting RB for the next few yrs. Agree with MyStar also, Cash certainly isn't a far superior player to Sterling.
Clement gave Sterling his new contract until 2028.
Spot on Rwn.👍Sterling has only missed 11 games more due to injury than Nedeljkovic, and 6 years older. Before Rangers, Sterling only missed 9 games due to injury, he has now missed 45 games, Nedeljkovic has missed 34 games.
Sterling had never got the chance of being our rb, he was played all over the park, but with him now playing rb constantly and his fitness levels are very good at the present time, the lad is showing us what he's all about. Nedeljkovic will get his chance, but if Sterling keeps on performing like he is it will be more from the bench.
Sterling has played not far from 300 games, the way some talk it's like he's hardly played because of injuries, he was also involved in a couple games for Chelsea under Conte when only 17/18 years old.
Still believe his mistake it's coming into play far more with some. It must be a truly wonderful feeling having never made a mistake.
These inflated figures are just getting boring now.
Chermiti £22m, Raskin £25m +, Barron can't eve remember the ridiculous figures mentioned.
All still here..get a grip of reality guys!
Some were quoting 6 to 8 m for Barron with Italy his destination.
Can't even get on bench for Middlesbrough, think he could be caught in middle of fact it was not manager who signed or wanted him.
Would be better if we try and get him better loan arrangement in January or try to sell as he is never going to be regular pick at Rangers.
Last Extension: Signed a one-year extension in October 2024 to push his deal from 2027 to 2028.
Injury history or not ANY player can sign an extension or new contract and be gubbed shortly after!
Just because he has had an injury spell does not mean he will be forever be injured! He could go on to be relatively injury free!
If he continues to deliver you give him a contract. We wouldn't have any players if we were to be scared of what might happen.
Weak thinking delivers weak results.
He would fetch between £5 n £10m for me on a good contract if a club came in.
But why are we all so fricken desperate to keep selling our better players??
It's not a computer game! We will win nothing without stability and a core season after season.
The owners know this ( thank God ) and will not sell if it's going to weaken the team.
Some of you need to get on board with it.
We go on about who's the best rb in our league Sterling or Johnston, Johnston has missed more than double Sterling's games through injury.
Jasp, Barron has been on the bench for Middlesbrough last couple of games, they are flying high, they also have a very good squad, I mentioned nothing about his fee, only thing I have said on Barron, I'd rather have him in our squad over Devlin.
Gdog best post on the thread well said mate. It's infuriating reading here at times we want to start acting like a club that wins things not a club like Brighton that are solely made to make profit.
Correct Wishy, I'm not wanting anyone sold mate, Souttar and McCausland yes, but why try and dismantle a good squad, glad our owners won't be thinking like some fans do.
Offering new contracts to players is about protecting your investment. We've obviously invested a lot into getting Sterling back fit again we are starting to see the fruits of the labour pay off.
Don't know why we are still talking/debating about selling one of our best defenders. Hope he goes onto to lift the title this season he's been through a lot and looks like he's enjoying his football now.
