Daily Record reporting move for Shankland coming in the next 48 hrs.

Not sure how I feel about this one people.

Thoughts?

Is he really the answer? People have said for the past 2/3 seasons we'd have won league if he'd been our player.

Is he past his peak?

On another note, who's watching the boxing and who's winning?

24 May 2026 01:00:04
100% should have been signed years ago.

Like Ferguson as well.

No brainer, and if it's a free.

24 May 2026 01:09:22
Only 31, he's got 4 years in him yet.

Great signing, better late than never.

He, Chermiti and Naderi will do for me.

24 May 2026 01:13:50
A leader and possible vice captain.

24 May 2026 01:21:35
He's not the messiah, he's just a very good goalscorer.

About time. Hopefully it's true!

24 May 2026 01:39:39
Gazza, Daily Record, never believe a word they say, mate, well I certainly don't.

24 May 2026 02:30:35
One of my least favourite phrases when people talk about potential signings is "is he the answer?" What is the question?

Would he be a good signing, and does he improve the team? Yes, he does in my opinion, whether that makes him the answer to whatever question people refer to, I'm not sure.

24 May 2026 04:36:40
Is the transfer window opening early? Can't see Bloom making it easy.

24 May 2026 06:15:01
If we win the league, then he's the answer.

24 May 2026 06:52:54
Peterpan, what would the transfer window being open have to do with it? Clubs can agree transfers outside the window! Being that Shankland signed a 1 year deal at Hearts last summer, he's also been free to talk to clubs since January, so again, what's the window being open got to do with it?

24 May 2026 06:55:06
He signed a 1 yr extension with Hearts at start of season with optional 2 years, but he's not taken up the 2 years and will now sign for Rangers in next few days.

24 May 2026 07:04:53
The Scottish Sun newspaper also reporting that Rangers hope to finalise a deal to sign Hearts captain and striker Lawrence Shankland within the next 48 hours. ? We could have signed Shankland for nothing and now will have to pay a decent fee to get him. ? That's why I just couldn't see us going for Shankland when other posters over the last couple of days were posting there was a possible deal in the pipeline, so well done you guys for your info.

?? If we do sign Shankland I welcome him wholeheartedly to Rangers because there's one thing, he's Rangers to the core, not to mention he's a natural finisher. ? ?? Let's see what unfolds and what Hearts want for him. ?

24 May 2026 07:22:10
Shankland is much more than just a goalscorer.

The most important thing about him is that he's a leader. I wouldn't be surprised if he became our new captain.

24 May 2026 07:26:39
If we do sign Lawrence Shankland, where does he play in our Rangers starting 11, fellow bears? ? Surely, if he does sign, and at his age of almost 31 years old, he'll be wanting assurances that he's a first team starter, I would have thought.

? ?? I doubt very much he would leave as captain of Hearts and first team regular to sit on the bench at Rangers. ?

24 May 2026 07:27:01
All I can see is Hearts announced he signed a 3 year deal. Transfermarkt has him out of contract summer of 2028. At the moment, there's no credible source to say it was a 1 year deal with option of further 2. Strange, Hearts would announce it as a 3 year deal.

24 May 2026 07:43:06
This is a controversial opinion, but I don't see the point in signing Shankland unless Chermiti is away. I think Shankland is obviously a great goal scorer and a leader, that's stating the obvious, but I don't think he gets a game over Chermiti. I also think Naderi is one of the hardest working strikers I've seen in many a years at Rangers too, and with the fee we paid, I don't think he was a project player. Not rubbishing on the Shankland parade, I'm in the camp of he should have been signed seasons ago, but as silly as it may sound to others, he isn't better than Chermiti.

Does Rohl go for a 2 up front? Does 2 strikers with the same slow paced/hold up/target man work? Possibly, does come down to what wingers we get, fast build up play, balls whipped in the box, something we've been seriously lacking. We've been criminally slow for a few seasons now in terms of attacking play.

24 May 2026 07:52:15
I was on the fence about Shankland, still am tbh, but seeing more of him this season, his link up play and not to mention his goals, think he could do a job, let's wait n see if the reports are accurate.

24 May 2026 08:01:08
I would take him as he is a better option than Miovski and Naderi, and it's also nothing to do with Bloom.

24 May 2026 08:09:03
Irvine, how many cf's would you like? Need a few cf's, Chermiti, Naderi, Shankland, probably sell Miovski and sign another if playing with two.

24 May 2026 08:15:56
134 games for Hearts, 72 goals.

24 May 2026 08:17:15
Not for me.
We were told by a few that if we had Shankland, we would have won the league.
So why didn't Hearts, as they had a better season than us?

24 May 2026 08:25:42
I'm similar to you on this Fork. I wasn't a fan of him signing previously, and still not 100% it would be the right thing, however, having seen more of him this season, I have been impressed with his all round play. I've always liked Chermiti, so would want him kept, but Shankland is a lot better than Miovski and Naderi based on last season.

He would bring leadership, and at 31 could still have a few decent years in him. He's never had pace, but has become a clever player with his positioning. I think I'm veering towards signing him after reading that back!!

24 May 2026 08:28:50
Not for me either. Seems like something to appease the support. If we got him on a free, then yes he'd be a good option to have, but wouldn't pay good money for him now.
Don't see him as a starter, option from bench.

24 May 2026 08:31:57
My Star - 3 is perfect, mate. I'm not being negative, lads. I'd be more than happy to have Shankland. If our 3 choices of strikers next season are Shankland, Chermiti and Naderi, then I'd be one happy fan. But I can't help but think this kinda hints towards a Chermiti sale. I'd be gutted if he left.

24 May 2026 08:34:31
Broste, he'll be one of the leaders signed. Can't see him being captain like a few have said, only because he won't be starting every game.
Chuffed if he signs though.

24 May 2026 08:38:05
Because Celtic had a better season than them.

24 May 2026 08:39:13
I could see Shankland having the same effect on Chermiti and Naderi that Defoe had on Morelos and others! They are raw and Shankland is ice cold! We have enough games next season to utilise all 3; Shankland could play with either of them in a front 2, and even in the dressing room he could be invaluable!

24 May 2026 08:47:49
True. Good point, Doubleshuffle.

24 May 2026 08:54:04
The best part is, if he does sign, Steve Clarke won't pick him to play him at the World Cup, so he will come back in peak condition.

24 May 2026 09:05:21
For the posters saying if we do happen to sign Shankland he'll be on the bench, I absolutely doubt that, guys. ? There's no way, if we sign Shankland, that he's leaving Hearts as their captain and regular starter to sit on our bench at 31 years old, no chance. ? ??

24 May 2026 09:35:26
Sws, not 31 for a few months, mate, Shankland won't be guaranteed starts.

24 May 2026 09:37:10
He will be playing in a 2. Simple as that.

24 May 2026 09:40:52
If he comes, he comes, not fussed either way, although we do need experience.

However, he scored 1 goal more than Chermiti in the league last season, but his shots on target were worse and his scoring percentage was worse. So perhaps young Yousef might be the one doing the teaching. ? So, yes, his experience will help, but Chermiti on his own is doing okay.

24 May 2026 09:52:52
Correction to my original post. It was an exclusive on Sun Sport Rangers, not Daily Record.

I found the boxing last night very strange.

24 May 2026 10:22:08
Lot to like about this one for me.

He's a better all round player than Chermiti for me, particularly outside the box (and that's the role I think he'd play with Chermiti as focal point). Nothing controversial in saying that for me, he's 31 and a seasoned pro against a guy learning his trade with one full season. Chermiti is better than Shankland was at 21, and will end up better with experience overall, which is why I'd keep him too.

They could be very good together.

Naderi, I wouldn't be surprised to see playing off one of the sides. He's got a lot of the Muller about him.

Shankland's also a leader, which we're sorely short on. And a Rangers fan to boot, which has always helped over the years.

If this is indeed a free transfer, then it's a no brainer for me.

24 May 2026 11:25:47
Shankland will score goals, we all know that, but it's the other aspects that make him a great signing. His workrate, holdup & linkup play, eye for a pass, positioning, leadership & experience, & for his size is a good threat at set pieces, not to mention blue blood in his veins. Think we can all agree every aspect above has been missing for some time.

If we get him free, even better, but if we pay anything for him, it's bad business considering he could have replaced Dessers last summer for nothing. I can see 2 up top, Chermiti & Shankland. I'd have no complaints at all with that, esp if we get a couple of decent wingers & midfielders in too, & give them the service many strikers have lacked for years.

24 May 2026 11:52:26
Gdog, Chermiti link up is different class.

24 May 2026 12:06:12
Well. he's possibly not the answer to the keeper, right back, midfield or winger question

What he is in my very honest and experienced opinion is

The biggest, most obvious and utterly ridiculous ( given his live for this club) ignorant
And bizarre mistake if the past 5 years or so

Lets hope someone has seen the obvious eh

And we might not have won, but we would have given our chances a mammoth boost, its not too late.

24 May 2026 16:12:41
I disagree, my star. Sometimes it's good, sometimes he looks like he couldn't trap a bag of cement or pass the ball 5 yards. Which is just something you get with young forwards, nothing to be concerned with, and not a major criticism. The talent is there for sure, but the consistency isn't. If it were (and, when it comes), he'd be nowhere near us (which I suspect, in a year or two, he won't be).

I like Chermiti (other than the fee paid) and think he'll go on to be a very good player.

But, for me, he's an inexperienced player with plenty of talent who blows hot and cold. Shankland was nowhere near as promising at Chermiti's age, but is a better all round player than him at 31.

When Chermiti gets to 31, long before that actually, he'll be better than Shankland.

I genuinely think they could be good together.
