Been told Martin is looking to go back to Southampton to bring in 23 year old Gavin Bazunu 22 Cap Ireland goalkeeper.
16 Jul 2025 03:40:03
Hope not, injury prone and no better than Butland IMO.
16 Jul 2025 04:10:53
Thought his GK preference was to replace butland with Carl Rushworth his former GK at swansea city, that brighton loaned to Swansea city, apparently Rushworth refused a contract extension at Brighton and wants a move away for 1st team football, him and Martin is a big admirer of his abilities, and young rushworth a brighton youth academy product since 2019 has no chance of getting into the 1st team as long as brighton are splashing the cash.
Rushworth 2 years left on his contract, only 24, value 3 mill.
Now has slipped to 3rd choice despite having the best stats of their 3 main goalkeepers, with both Dutch GKs Verbruggen and Scherpen ahead of him.
Take him on loan for this season make him 1st choice, punt Butland, Make Kelly 2nd choice, release wright and promote Mcguire.
Then buy rushworth end of this season for 2 mill on the loan to buy option we take lol
wright and kelly are both free agents after this season, and butlands a free agent the season after. so we need to address our GK situation now.
Butland is not good enough for Rangers if we want a solid run in europe and to win the league and cups again, time to get rid or make him 2nd choice regardless of wage, he cost us a lot of silly goals last season, and a weak keeper is a weak link in the defence.
Butland out Rushworth in simple.
16 Jul 2025 05:07:47
Martin wasn't Swansea manager when they signed Rushworth.
16 Jul 2025 05:17:54
Kelly and Wright will be here to help with the homegrown quota for Europe.
16 Jul 2025 06:37:40
I think Martin should go and get the australian international goalkeeper matt ryan for free and even at 33 years old now, has easily a good 4 years left in him ?Not to mention he's a good goalkeeper, terrific shot stopper and very good with the ball at his feet, everything Martin i assume, would want in his goalkeeper ?.
16 Jul 2025 06:39:37
Being irish will go down well.
16 Jul 2025 07:00:03
Read a article yesterday and someone said I wouldn't be surprised if Martin moves for Bazunu.
16 Jul 2025 07:09:33
How are you so confident carl rushworth is good enough for Rangers ?.
16 Jul 2025 07:17:42
Here's a question regarding our goalkeeper situation guys. Hypothetically speaking, if we did sign matt ryan on a free to challenge jack butland and liam kelly, who would be the no.1 in your eyes fellow bears and why ?.
16 Jul 2025 07:24:38
Don't always agree with you Laudruphagi, but that makes a lot of sense buddy.
16 Jul 2025 07:50:20
No idea if he would be good enough, but I noticed Scotland no 1 Angus Gunn is currently without a club and is training with all the released players down south.
Maybe worth a look but mental that the Scottish keeper is getting released by Norwich and struggling to get something else.
16 Jul 2025 08:11:09
I think the idea if we do bring in another GK is to challenge Butland not to replace him. that might help with his focus as he may not be just automatic first choice.
16 Jul 2025 08:39:09
RFC 99% of fans won't give a toss if he's Irish. If he's good enough he will be liked. Fans would have an issue with someone like James McLean, not any random Irish player.
16 Jul 2025 08:40:02
RFC18720 - I think you're living in the past (dark ages) . The only fully that care about a Rangers players creed or colour etc these days are Celtic fans)
Think Southampton didn't >£10m on this keeper. Is it really realistic for us to sign him. I'm not keen on relying too much on loans. Also, I assume we'd need to have a move for butland lined up before any new keeper comes in?
16 Jul 2025 08:48:27
As My Star has said, there was an article yesterday where an ex player (can't remember who) was talking about Martin and the team he was trying to build. In that he mentioned 'maybe' a new keeper and if so 'wouldn't be surprised' if he moved for Bazunu as he had played for him at Southampton. This is where that has come from, I'm guessing someone has read this and mentioned to the O G poster that we are 'in for him' which there is absolutely no suggestion anywhere that we are.
16 Jul 2025 09:10:29
Gers78 same mate i was thinking who that ex player was but like you couldn't remember.
16 Jul 2025 09:12:59
Gers he also said if Southampton keep Ramsdale he thinks he'll look for a move.
16 Jul 2025 09:14:17
Bazunu was sent out on loan for the second half of last season to Standard Liege so as long as Southampton retain Ramsdale i'd imagine he will be on the move again. Man city youth product and a full southern ireland international. SWS i would start Ryan before Butland in most domestic matches due to his being better on the ball mate, but would have Butland in between the sticks for Europe as he's a better shot stopper.
16 Jul 2025 09:23:51
Don Goodman, ex Motherwell, was giving an interview and suggested that he could see RM going and try to sign Bazunu.
16 Jul 2025 09:26:28
AC sorry but intrigued. do teams not shoot on goal in Scotland?
16 Jul 2025 09:33:05
Mental to think that Butland with 28 U21 caps for and 9 full senior caps isn't good enough for Rangers but when we're talking about Conor Coady with 4 U21 caps and 10 full senior caps for England is? ?.
16 Jul 2025 09:39:37
?? touché Angus, we don't tend to face even half as many shots in the league as we do in europe so having a keeper with better ability to play out from the back domestically is more important imo.
16 Jul 2025 09:55:09
BearBlue ? That is who it was mate, I've just had a look at Bazunu, now saying linked with Rangers this all came from Goodman, shows exactly how such things like this are getting used for clicks.
16 Jul 2025 09:57:40
I get what your saying AC.
16 Jul 2025 10:16:52
Coops mat Ryan would be my no1 there.
16 Jul 2025 10:22:16
AC just looking to see if it was an opinion or otherwise really and to start the conversation. FYI I had a look after your post and the stats are as below so there isn't really that much of a difference.
league; 28 games with 87 shots on target against is 3.1 shots per game goals against per 90 is 1.11
Europe: 10 games with 37 shots on target against is 3.7 shots per game GA90 is 1.26
save percentage both around 65% so in effect whilst he does face more shots per game not hugely so.
I think we will bring in another keeper as well though but one to challenge Jack rather than replace. that might be why we are linked initially with a loan rather than a buy.
16 Jul 2025 10:36:12
AC. we dropped so many points in the league last year because of shots at our goal, your post was some read?♂️. I think it would help our cause if we put a GK in there that could stop the shots first and foremost. Obviously better defenders would help aswell.
16 Jul 2025 10:37:41
Rangers fans might not have an issue with him signing, but I presume folks back home would have an issue with a rep Ireland player playing for an anti Irish club.
Some on this forum will say we're not, but the club endorse the UB, demonstrated by when they moved and upset thousands of season ticket holders so they could get the area of the stadium they wanted, who sign anti Irish songs. Therefore by de facto are also anti Irish.
If the club wishes to be viewed as a club for "anyone, everyone" then they should stipulate the songbook they sign and if it ever deviates they get banned. Simple.
Ps - I actually have nothing against the UB (most of the time), think they create a good atmosphere, but unfortunately you can't have it both ways. One or the other for me.
16 Jul 2025 10:53:45
Having a look at some comparitive stats. Butland had a save percentage in the league of just over 65% last season and let in 31 goals. In English premiership Ramsdale (who kept Rushworth out of team 23/ 24 had 65 goals against 68% save percentage and 68% pass accuracy) let in 66 and had a similar save percentage. In fact in EPL only Becker at Liverpool let in less goals although 14 had better save percentages. Bazunu in his 8 games at Standard let in 15 goals and had a 53% save percentage. pass accuracy was 53% compared to Butlands 77%.
struggling to see how either provide an upgrade either on save percentage or passing accuracy.
16 Jul 2025 11:11:12
The problem will be if Butland is replaced we are going to be paying probably the highest wage alongside tav to sit on the bench, that's just not sustainable. Just can't see any clubs willing to buy him after his performances last season.
16 Jul 2025 11:34:10
How can a keeper ( rushworth ) be better than butland when he was benched for pandur who isn't even rated by hull fans. 2 million to buy rushwortth? They value him at 10m btw Brighton. Kelly won't be leaving us next year. And McGuire is no where near first team ready. Ehl told us that. If you want a good reliable keeper then look further afield Germany, France, Belgium, even the chezch league good strong ball playing keepers on the cheap don't command big wages and most play in pressure based sides. You could even dip into the free agent market Ryan, mvogo, cillisen, viringa, desmas ect.
16 Jul 2025 13:11:01
Butland ain't going anywhere this season. IMO he will shove people comments down their throat this season too.
We can't sell everyone and expect anything but a mess in the process!
16 Jul 2025 13:17:10
I've never read so much rubbish about the goalkeeping situation as posted by LH . He is saying that we should replace Butland, an experienced international goalkeeper with Rushworth a guy who is 4th choice at Brighton and who I bet he has never even seen play . Then he wants Wright freed, he's just had his contract extended by a year and a 16 year old, McGuire, promoted . What about Munn, where does he fit into to this master plan. If Butland has to be replaced it needs to be by somebody with experience and stature not this years Foderingham or Bell.
As for Bazunu, he was very highly rated when they bought him from City but has had a bad injury . Decent keeper though.
