I wonder if it is the lad at Everton who's announced as sporting director? we will no doubt hear rumours of Dyche or lampard as manager. Tbh I'd want neither but was a thought given the links he'll have to both.
22 Apr 2025 22:02:27
Does thelwell also not have a link to gary o'neill OWS ?.
22 Apr 2025 22:07:07
I would take Sean Dyche as he is a really good manager and has proven at team like Watford and Burnley that he can put a strong team together on a budget.
22 Apr 2025 22:08:45
I'd love dyche. Think he'd be a great manager for us.
Exactly
What we need, old school. Builds teams with solid spine big solid defenders first and foremost his midfields are solid and workmen. He's exactly what is missing from rangers.
22 Apr 2025 22:14:52
From wolves days? Tbh lampard Dyce or oneil don't particularly excited me tbh.
22 Apr 2025 22:55:22
Be more interested if he had a link to bring Patterson back up the road….
22 Apr 2025 23:23:43
Dyche would probably get results in our league but the football his teams play is not something I'm wanting to watch, let's get a manager in that plays good football with good organisation and gets results.
23 Apr 2025 00:43:45
Beale, he's normally working with a smaller budget than vast majority in the league.
He's used to playing g against teams with vastly more amounts of money and getting a winning team together.
I really rate and like Sean dyche.
Done better than komoany did with Burnley while spending less money he got sacked and komoany went to Bayern Munich.
Sometimes you're face and personality and the vibes etc has a lot more to do with it than talent.
23 Apr 2025 01:42:32
Stevie but did you see the difference in the football played under Dyche and Kompany at Burnley? did say he'd probably get results but I'm looking for a far better style of football mate.
23 Apr 2025 06:39:19
One thing about Dyche I think he would get the respect from the players I wouldn't like to be on other side of him ?
No Gary O'Neil please ?.
23 Apr 2025 07:12:48
Tbh Star, I'm looking for a winning team on the park and silverware in the cabinet bid?.
23 Apr 2025 07:13:03
*bud?.
23 Apr 2025 07:37:15
Watched a few Everton pods last night and they said on this pods Lampard was appointed before Thelwell joined and he wasn't a fan of the dyche appointment it was moshiri that appoint dyche and the board that picked Moyes. Again it's believed he had other suggestions.
So dyche won't be coming and after the job Lampard has done at Coventry don't see him coming either.
23 Apr 2025 07:41:54
Did Dyche only play defensive football because of where his teams were in league and need to not be relegated. He wouldn't face that threat here so could he set up a strong team with a more attacking flair? not a recommendation just an observation.
23 Apr 2025 07:46:34
Would he get the respect, Stig? Not for me mate! Apart from the boring football, there's just something about him I don't like.
Morning Ed001, what's your thoughts on Dyche? Was there not a couple of incidents with the players at Everton? I'm sure N Patterson was involved in one of them?
{Ed001's Note - Dyche always said he played a certain way because of the players he had, but he was given more attacking players in the summer and continued to play the same dire footie. The minute Moyes came in, the difference was night and day and Moyes is extremely negative too, but compared to Dyche he was like Johan Cruyff reborn.
I like Dyche, the man himself is likeable, but his footie is dire. There were a few issues behind the scenes with players, yes, but that is something that happens with every club. Players and managers disagree.}
23 Apr 2025 08:16:43
Fork, that's one thing we can all agree on, pal.
Too late now obviously, but i thought David Moyes would have been good for us.
23 Apr 2025 08:24:17
You did say that mate skk on that's fair enough reply. As fork says though we want to win first.
We tried implementing brakes free flowing phylosophy, gio's european phylosophy and the clements tactics. None have been successful.
Maybe it's time for a big strong fit British approach like smith. Solid team hard to beat and build on that.
23 Apr 2025 08:48:08
Possibly would Mark??.
23 Apr 2025 09:21:56
Thanks again Ed001.
{Ed001's Note - very welcome mate.}
23 Apr 2025 09:23:40
Agreed Fort, but I'm looking for better football mate.
23 Apr 2025 09:39:14
I would like to see Muscat in charge he wouldn't take slackers or losers plus knows the Australia/ Asia scene well decent players out there for cheap.
23 Apr 2025 09:41:38
I've posted a picture of a book written by thelwell. It's titled how to play the European 352.
Could this explain why Barry has been playing this formation? It's an interesting one. I won't read it but some may be interested to look it up.
23 Apr 2025 09:57:53
Agreed bud, as are we all Star, but wins n silverware on the way to good xpansive attacking football will do first. ??.
23 Apr 2025 10:02:21
How far we have fallen if we have fans saying they want Dyche as manager! Plays some of the worst football I've ever seen and even when given better players he still stuck to his awful style. Absolutely should be nowhere near a club of our size. Let's just say if we appoint that ninja I won't be watching us.
23 apr 2025 10:38:54
ss far as i'm aware he leaned behind paterson at a team dinner and slapped him a bit too hard on back of the head, paterson was embarrassed and a few players took umbrage at dyche, i believe that to be true, it was an athletic journo who told me.
23 Apr 2025 11:08:04
Interesting thought Stevie. Could be something in that.
On the topic of style of football. Firstly I, like most, would love to see great football that gets results. I also think that we need to be realistic because in Scotland pretty football does not always work. Sometimes we need to roll the sleeves, get stuck in and play route one.
This is why we have failed in recent years because we have not had a squad capable of getting stuck in. We have have not had a squad with Target men to go route one.
Tippy tappy side to side slow boring football has been our downfall. Its massively important that our next manager understands our game and builds a squad that can adapt. It can't always be pretty.
For years now, since Warbs, teams have sat in and watched us pass the ball infront of them. Its the reason why we have been won nothing.
Build a squad that will give us a game plan, horses for courses.
Its that simple.
23 Apr 2025 11:29:51
Dgers that's my thinking mate. Let's be hard to beat, strong and solid. Build in that.
Forget this European style for now. Pick it up once we're stronger.
23 Apr 2025 11:40:06
Mystar that great football Kompany played at Burnley got them relegated also.
23 Apr 2025 11:45:26
Can play the european style in europe. Can't play european style in the SPL. Its imperative that the new manager understands this. We can't be one dimensional. We need a squad who can play and who can lump it in the box and be physical and dominant in the air.
Stevie. Its that simple.
23 Apr 2025 12:02:05
According to evertonians they are very impressed by thelwell. player trading balance highly positive. has an eye for talent. wanyed dyche gone months before he was. in short lots to consider there.
23 Apr 2025 12:33:06
That story rings a bell Tom.
23 Apr 2025 12:52:39
Didn't Kompany get the relegated? Same as Eustace football, hovering above the relegation zone.
23 Apr 2025 12:55:54
I'm not pushing for Dyche as manager but the football his Burnley team played has many traits that would suit Scotland and people on here have bene crying out for.
They had big strong defenders who defended their box, defended well at corners and were a threat in the opposition box too.
He played more or less 4-4-2 with two wide men who covered back but also could get forward and whose first thought was to get a cross in early.
He played a big target man striker who won headers and could hold the ball up and another alongside who was more of a goalscorer.
They had good delivery and plans from set pieces.
The team was organised, strong, fit, worked hard for each other and for 90 minutes.
It maybes wasn't the tippy tappy football we see nowadays but it would certainly win in Scotland although at times it might not be pretty.
It is all a matter of what you are looking for as a fan, again I'm not saying he should be manager but I would rather this style than the likes of Russell Martins slow tippy tappy footbal.
23 Apr 2025 13:04:40
We played our best football imo under SG who set up a 433 where kamara and Jack were the guys to protect our 2 attacking fb tav and BB personally I like attacking football but am at a stage where winning football would suffice until we can build a team able to play the football we all like.
23 Apr 2025 13:07:53
Storm Kompany is the manager of Bayern Munich Dyche can't get a job, did you expect him to keep Burnley up like?
23 Apr 2025 13:08:06
That's true wsl and it would suit at times. We do need target men up top. I'd rather have a manager who could mix it up.
23 Apr 2025 13:08:55
Told you yesterday you shouldn't really be posting about a manager that you're very clueless on coldo.
23 Apr 2025 14:04:44
By the way I'm not praising Kompany here.
23 Apr 2025 14:32:02
Read that also Tom a while back ?.
23 Apr 2025 14:32:10
Tom, it was in all the press when it happened. Dyche has admitted to the story himself but it was a joke which went wrong. happened as you say but reported by everyone as being a joke which went wrong and nothing in it but Patterson was embarrassed by it. Dyche apologised immediately after.
bTW last thing we need if we want to play good football is a manager who plays in Scotland by lumping the ball into the box. not sure how effective that is against a low block when there is no space between defenders and between defenders and midfield. on the odd occasion the second ball may break too us but they would have 9 players to our 3 or 4.
