Just looking at arsenals squad it's something else isn't it.
If they get a better 9 in and move Jesus on it would be a perfect squad.
Infact it's too strong they need to move a good few on perms and loan out dowman
Point of my post is the defence.
Is that the strongest defence you've seen in football?
It is for me the strongest defence I've ever seen

Gyokeres is that 9, Odegaard (scared of getting injured again) & Saka (played into the ground) were off it last season. If they are fit, then Gyokeres will get proper service. LW is something that's been missing for longer.

Ridvan, I'm talking about the squad defence.
The 8, 9, if u include Myles SKelly, is absolute solid mate.
Btw, you're n wrong in what you've posted, that is a pretty wild defence u posted.
19 Aug 2026 22:38:26
Dowman would be a great loan signing, Gazza. I've toyed with posting that question all summer, mate.
He'd be a great signing and exactly what we need in mf.
Probably have better teams willing to do that than us though.
19 Aug 2026 22:20:33
I'm a fan of Arsenal but Nesta, Maldini, Stam, Cafu still the strongest defence I've seen and probably ever will see.
19 Aug 2026 22:26:49
I was just thinking last night what our chances of getting down an on loan would be.
19 Aug 2026 22:46:01
I agree, Stevie. Arteta has built towards this and they look very strong. They need that top 5 striker to be as good as some previous great Prem teams, though. I half expected them to sign a great striker and sell a great defender.
They've never seemed to have both for a long time. That Milan team had Costacurta on the bench with Gattuso, Seedorf, Pirlo, Kaka, Rui Costa, Shevchenko, Crespo & Inzaghi. What a side!
19 Aug 2026 23:00:30
Ridvan, I've seen them linked with Endrick the last few days. £40m.
That's a steal for the wee man, he's some striker.
19 Aug 2026 23:15:29
WeeRidVan, Maldini, Baresi, Costacurta, Tasotti, just before Nesta Cafu era, even better. Football was far better then.
19 Aug 2026 23:27:32
Hundred percent, Kasier, that's the best defence in my lifetime.
19 Aug 2026 23:34:56
Just Maldini on his own was strong enough. Rolls Royce of a footballer.
20 Aug 2026 00:22:29
We but too early for me, lads, but I would accept that being the case by listening to the pundits always bring that defence up.
20 Aug 2026 06:24:07
I would add both Baresi and Cannavaro to your list, WeeRidVan. 👌
20 Aug 2026 06:30:15
I think Arsenal will retain the English Premier League title, but my dark horses are definitely Chelsea. 🤔
20 Aug 2026 06:36:33
How long has it taken Arteta to build that squad?
20 Aug 2026 06:59:36
Took arrays a few seasons EHL, but we've seen consistent improvement.
That's what I've said on another page is needed for McInnes, not titles. Consistent progress and performances.
We may not win a league for a couple seasons, but as long as we see progress and a challenge. A plan that's going somewhere.
20 Aug 2026 07:26:32
Someone commented that Arteta has built towards this. Question: how long has that taken? The Arsenal owners didn't yield to fan pressure when they wanted rid of Arteta, and now it's paying off. We are in a similar position. Have a bit of patience with a manager (exception of Martin as that was never going to work) and we might see results.
20 Aug 2026 07:48:23
The difference being, EHL, that the squad he inherited was already a pretty damn good team. The thing is, it's easier to see progress down south, as there are many teams capable of challenging for the top 6 etc, plus they are usually in the ECL.
Whereas here, we have mainly 1 team we are competing against, so finishing 2nd isn't seen as progress. We don't even really win any cups often either, so it's much harder to judge progress at Rangers.
20 Aug 2026 07:52:27
Stevie, do you honestly think McInnes will be given that time? I hope so, but our fans want instant success, not something to look forward to in 3 years' time. If they had shown the patience you are talking about to Gio or Clement, then we would be almost there already and a few pounds better off as well.
20 Aug 2026 08:12:49
Too long, EHL.
20 Aug 2026 08:14:32
StevieG, I agree. Was going to say similar that Arsenal gave him time because they could see a plan and progress from the beginning. They sacked others before because they couldn't, so it's not just about having patience.
20 Aug 2026 08:14:54
Bbj, if having a higher league position is the sign of progress, then not sure how we will ever give time to a manager to build that team or squad. The problem at Rangers is that we tend to judge everything on the latest run of results.
A manager can show six months of progress, have a bad six weeks, and suddenly everything is declared a failure. He's then sacked, another manager comes in with different ideas, and we're back to rebuilding the squad around someone else's philosophy.
20 Aug 2026 08:57:50
Re Dowman, I think u will find he can't go on loan outwith England till 18.
Remember we had to wait for Mooresb 18 birthday to play.
20 Aug 2026 08:58:58
It's obviously not just in league position though, as he says, down south it's easier to see because of more clubs, whereas here it's normally just the 2. Progress can still be seen on the park to know if we're improving or heading in the right direction.
If we continue Arsenal comparison, they couldn't see it under Emery, so didn't give him time. They did with Arteta, so did. Similar with ours, their 2nd seasons were worse than 1st and we're improving.
20 Aug 2026 09:05:36
Read Arsenal have been linked to Osminen. Get him and they will be unstoppable.
20 Aug 2026 09:47:17
*Weren't improving.
