Can't wait for the start of next season and the first missed penalty and someone will say - "should have kept Tav". ?
Anyway, fingers crossed he finishes his Rangers career on a high.
Then it's a case of thanks for the memories.
No sentimentality in football. Why our current 3rd choice CH should not have been given a new contract and wage rise.

22 Apr 2026 14:13:41
Our striker should be a stick on for 20 goals plus, then with a new pen taker, a super ally, and an Albertz for free kicks on our summer wish list.

22 Apr 2026 14:23:35
I was always vocal about Tav leaving, but since he's announced it, I think I miss him already.
I'm kind of joking, but at the same time not joking, it's strange. ? Jackyboy said in a post earlier that Tav's been in Rangers teams that have been trying to sort ourselves out since 2012, that's a fact. I feel in any other era he would have been loaded with winners medals.

If all his team mates had stats like him this era maybe it would be the same. His numbers and appearances are incredible, tbh. Big Dado made another good point, that we could end up with another Rommens on that side when discussing whether to keep Tav or not. That's exciting to think about. Good luck, Jamesy Tavernier, you'll be remembered fondly, go get that title, son. ?

22 Apr 2026 14:40:22
I'll be careful how I word this, as I know I have some deep rooted personal bias against Tav.

Moving on is the right decision and I hope he leaves with another league medal - lol, and good riddance.

22 Apr 2026 14:45:35
EHL. ??

22 Apr 2026 14:58:16
Bang on, Ehl, as for penalties so far he has missed 21, two against them, and s*** it to take one in the League Cup final, which Buffy missed. I don't think I've been so happy since Thistle beat them 4-1 in 1971.

22 Apr 2026 15:31:27
Morelos was instructed to take the penalty against Celtic by Steven Gerrard. That was confirmed by Steven Gerrard. If anyone has any evidence that Tavernier told Morelos 'I'm not taking this penalty today despite taking every other high profile penalty for a decade'.

Why would Steven Gerrard be lying to this day about that issue? Why has nobody ever spoken out and said Tavernier refused to take the kick? I hate to see fans making up lies like this just to stick the boot in.

The way James Tavernier is treated by this fanbase is a disgrace. I hope he is much happier elsewhere, and gets the benefit of a supportive fanbase that don't make up lies about him.

22 Apr 2026 15:35:25
So I take it, EHL, there's a personal issue took place with Tav and yourself, mate. ?

22 Apr 2026 15:45:28
EHL, can I ask, does your dislike of Tav come from him being a bit of a "diva". That was something I heard from a non-football member of staff.

I was a bit disappointed to hear this, as he has had some top moments for us like being so close to captaining us to our first European trophy since 1972.

In the road to Seville, he made a huge contribution to that run.

22 Apr 2026 16:02:46
Once a Ranger - I don't like how he treated a number of the players whilst I was at the club, especially young players and some of the new signings who were struggling to settle in at the club.

A player who's delivered some top moments and always given his best on the pitch - but, in my opinion, not someone who should ever have worn our captain's armband.

22 Apr 2026 16:19:32
We will only miss Tav if we can't replace for better. We missed him when he didn't play, but that was because we had no one to fill his place with similar.

22 Apr 2026 16:27:49
Mikey Moore absolutely loves Tav, EHL, and he's not only a young player but a relatively new player and on loan. ? I would never have taken Tav to be like that with young players and new players, because many of the new players and young players over Tav's years have said how terrific a role model he is. ?

22 Apr 2026 16:29:52
Interesting Ehl.

22 Apr 2026 16:39:08
Huge thanks to what the Legend that is Tav has given to Rangers. He has stats that will not be broken and has always shown total commitment to the cause. Big boots to fill, gut luck lad.

22 Apr 2026 16:50:57
Very well said Ehl. How do we know Moore loves Tav? Mb ask Raskin the backing, or more importantly, the backing Martin got from Tav, Butland, Dowell and Souttar when he was temporarily removed from training and attending the Old Firm match.

22 Apr 2026 17:02:10
John, could you elaborate a little on this please?

22 Apr 2026 17:04:48
I 100% agree, Ehl. I know of the very same situations, I alluded to it before and got pretty much slaughtered, so I decided not to mention it again and leave it alone.

But I also am looking forward to him moving on to pastures new, it will have a positive effect on certain things, sorry to say.

Hope everyone is well.
5 games to go lads.

22 Apr 2026 17:56:39
Thanks to Ehl and John for the inside info on Tav, even if it is a bit disappointing to hear.

I would imagine in football, like other areas of life, there are all sorts of different personalities and characters at each club.

We are all the same! We are all different!

22 Apr 2026 18:09:55
Got to say, I'm surprised to hear this about Tav, as he's not that vocal on the pitch and doesn't come across as that type of person. Over the years, and a few managers, Tav has kept the armband.

I did think that he was a person to look up to, but clearly not. If this is the case, then he should have been stripped of the arm band years ago.

22 Apr 2026 18:29:51
Good to see you posting, Wullie.

22 Apr 2026 18:36:15
Can we cut to the chase, what are the issues with Tavernier?

22 Apr 2026 19:05:30
Simply look at our player management team, do anything to sook in with management, they backed Russell Martin over Raskin.
They went to the board to get Clement removed.
Whilst not many persons cup off tea, it was Patrick Stewart who stepped in and kept Raskin at Rangers.

22 Apr 2026 19:19:06
Thank you, EHL. Hope you're well and enjoying life in maroon.

22 Apr 2026 19:21:47
Some of you must have been living under a rock or have very short memories. Ehl has never hidden how he feels about Tav and has stated several times why he doesn't want him to stick around.

I, for one, am absolutely delighted he will be having no more influence at the club, and we are rooting out some of the problem players.

22 Apr 2026 21:01:43
Maybe a better gauge of Tav as a captain is listening to what his ex team mates have said about him. Balogun, the day before the announcement, talked about how he helped him settle when he signed, as have a number of others, and the messages that appeared today from ex team mates and current team mates praising him.

These things, and all the comments about him from ex managers, all outweigh all the cryptic fact less comments on here as far as I am concerned.

22 Apr 2026 21:59:20
Wsl, football is a PR machine and very few speak out against others within the game.

I remember posting my opinion about Martin early in the season, and many posters questioned it by quoting players who had praised Martin's communication style and leadership.

23 Apr 2026 07:28:48
Sorry John, but on the one hand you are saying the sook is in with management and cite Martin over Raskin, but on the other hand they did exactly the opposite and went above the manager to get him the sack in another instance, which isn't sooking in with management?

23 Apr 2026 07:53:20
Interesting to hear your thoughts, EHL, as you obviously witnessed it first hand.
