J7st reading more on the Tav contract we have an unreliable Sterling and Aarons will be away so would offering him a 1 tear deal as backup not be more beneficial for the club? Look at Aarons we thought he'd be a player but it hasn't worked out so any signing is a gamble

No thanks, if we sign a new right back, which should be 100% a priority, then we can manage Sterling's minutes. No point then paying big money to have Tav sitting on a bench every week. He's got a great legacy and been a terrific servant, but it's time to look to the future.

He should not be offered any new contract whatsoever. He's well past it now and should have been sold 3 years ago.
Great servant with a great record, but he needs to move on to pastures new.

We keep hearing offer Tav reduced terms on new contract. Will he accept reduced terms, plus reduced game time.
He will probably get more at Championship team.

James Tavernier is still the best RB Rangers have. I'll be stunned if Rangers don't offer him a new contract.
Rangers could spend £4m on a top rated full-back from Europe and he could turn out to be a complete dud like Yilmaz. We could loan a big money player from England, as we did with Aarons, who turned out to be another dud.
James Tavernier should only leave when we have better in the door.
That won't be easy. Sterling is a good player, but what good is that talent if he's sitting in the stands injured? If Sterling can't get fit, I doubt he'll have a future with us.
The best option, in my opinion, is to keep James Tavernier with a view to signing another RB. That way we go into next season with two players for that position. (I'm not including Sterling giving his injury issues).

Tav is never injured and always makes himself available.
21 Apr 2026 19:46:57
He needs to go, plain and simple, and thank him for the years he has been here.
Rohl With Cheese, him being the best rb, is not a good look for us as a team, as we have failed to get a right back in.
Arrons was a gamble, said at the time, and it didn't work.
21 Apr 2026 20:10:11
Rohl, just look at the impact Rommens has had. We should be aiming to bring in someone like him for the right. His time is up.

Yilmaz was not a bad player, he just couldn't handle the physical side of our game and was always injured.
In no way, shape or form should Tav be here next year, he is well past it. Great servant, but he hasn't won enough and I for one am sick of his "we will learn from this" post match bs.
Plus, let's be honest, I don't want his influence still being exerted over the squad, I'd rather we move forward with a new captain for our new regime.

Every single signing is a gamble, Storm. Hence the importance of keeping a hold of James Tavernier until we have better in the door - which won't be easy.
Also, I'd just like to point out to BlueJim that the Yilmaz signing was a complete disaster. Rangers lost out financially, and the player himself sat in the stands for years before going home.
You say he was "always injured". Do you know who is never injured and puts in the highest amount of outfield appearances almost every year? James Tavernier. What an asset that is.
21 Apr 2026 21:18:33
If we can win the title this year, Tav will lift it. Then off he goes with all our best wishes. Please don't be speaking extra year contracts.
21 Apr 2026 21:57:35
Tavernier should have been replaced with a permanent transfer last summer. We can't rely on Sterling. I only hope we can now, but we can't be dependent on him. Sign a rb for the first team, and Sterling can play anywhere in defence.
I wanted Tavernier out a while ago, but on a big reduction on wages maybe 10k 12k max, give him another year. He's not happy with that salary, fair enough he can move on. Yes, he is getting on, but he still has our best goal contributions this season.
21 Apr 2026 23:28:02
I'll never understand why we haven't tried him at rw with Sterling behind him. Or even at right cm of a 3.
22 Apr 2026 01:01:36
Although he has had his critics and I've been one of them recently, I don't think many would argue that he hasn't been a great servant in the majority of the time he has been with us, especially for the fee paid.
However, even when we have had truly great players in the past, when it is time for them to move on, then we have to accept no player is bigger than the club.
I genuinely trust that Danny Rohl and our current scouting network could find another gem to fill the RB slot who is equally as good as Rommens with Sterling as a more than decent back up, fitness issues notwithstanding.

I don't think the fans can argue either way. If he stays as back up and experience, it's not a bad thing.
If he goes, it's a sign of moving forward as a club.
I'd keep him, but wouldn't be sad if he left.
I do wonder how his testimonial would turn out in terms of attendance, btw, I hope it wasn't a bad one for him.
Maybe give tickets to season tickets cheap.

I'm surprised there's been no word by now regarding a testimonial for Tav Stevie G. ? He's almost completed 11 seasons at Rangers. ? It always used to be 10 years service and the player received a testimonial. This must have changed. ?

How was Yilmaz a dud, explain. ?♂️
