On the subject of injuries??

My question to you all is what is the worst injury that you have suffered whilst taking part in a sporting event?

My one wasn't too bad but i staved my big toe years ago playing in a 5's tournament in the Faslane submarine base, when i blootered the floor rather than the ball and my day was finished there and then. I was crying out for the air ambulance but after the medic inspected my injury it was quickly decided that some pain killers would suffice, and after a few weeks of hobbling about my toe was right as rain again.

Ripped my vastus medialus at training, shot by a sniper when it popped, u could see the rip lines in the bruising within a few hours.

Fractured collar bone whilst skiing.

03 Apr 2026 13:56:04
For me, three cheers, a broken nose.

Worst I've seen, a young kid playing in England, kneecap, muscle, tendon, cartilage all outside of his skin. Physio and medical team did the most incredible job. He did play again, briefly, but it ended his football days.
Ps studs caught in grass no one near him.

I fractured my pelvis playing rugby in the 80s. I have never fully recovered. ?

03 Apr 2026 15:02:28
If ten pin bowling counts as a sport, I broke my leg jus above my ankle going up to throw the bowling ball.

03 Apr 2026 15:03:24
I didn't get injured much playing football got a dead leg once.

03 Apr 2026 14:20:38
Detached kneecap, after slide tackling through mud, and a buried brick took me out.
Strangely, no pain, but straight to A&E (in the days you could get in!) & surgery to put things back where they should be.

I've been lucky with sport injuries. (plenty other stupid ones tho) One of the worst I had was a lad who lost his buck teeth in my forehead trying to head the ball.

03 Apr 2026 14:23:55
With a bad tackle, I unfortunately received a double fracture of my right ankle, foot was almost facing the other way, medics were great, the player didn't even receive a red card.

Three years later, playing against the same player, he then high tackled me and split my knee cap.

Let's just say the family had words with him after, but his excuse, didn't like me taken the mickey out of him. ?‍♂️

Done me knee ligaments in my younger days, up for header and as I landed I tried to turn at same time my foot stuck and the turn done my knee that just about done my playing days. I always blamed the astro park I was playing on at the time.

Had couple of comebacks afterwards, first game back I split my head open, required stitches, blood everywhere. My young son still has that as his first footballing memory. That was enough for my missus to say your times up.

03 Apr 2026 15:15:10
My career was ended early with a ruptured knee.

03 Apr 2026 15:17:57
Tore ligament in my back turning off the alarm clock.

03 Apr 2026 15:18:36
Done ligaments in left ankle playing rugby during training.

Worst I've seen was seeing a rugby team mate break his nose. By broken I mean virtually squashed flat to his face. He stayed and watched the rest of the game before going to hospital.

I done my right ACL back in the very early 90's and never came back anywhere near the midfielder I was. ☹️ I remember my ACL op was done in the Law Hospital Carluke by ortho surgeon Mr. William McSweean, a big Motherwell supporter and a terrific surgeon. ?

03 Apr 2026 15:40:01
Done my ACL and MCL in my knee playing football, and a fractured orbital in MMA.

03 Apr 2026 15:57:41
Done my metatarsal by full power volleying the ball into the top corner from 30yards.

Only, it wasn't the ball I kicked, it was the big stupid CBs studs (he threw in a last gasp block), and I missed the ball completely ? out for 6weeks. ?

03 Apr 2026 16:12:33
Fractured knee cap. Running between two players with ball. Both tackled d me at same time from both sides. Tendon and bone came away.

03 Apr 2026 16:42:51
Swollen Testicles at the fives!! Thank God the Rangers are back tomorrow. ???

03 Apr 2026 16:45:03
Can't say I've had 1 playing, but stubbed my toe on the kitchen table leg in the dark, fell into the living room, where my son was laughing his head off, then jumped on me. Toe was clearly broken, hurt like hell for about 6 months, but stupidly never went to get it seen and fixed.

03 Apr 2026 17:29:29
Tore ligaments in my ankles a few times playing Rugby many years ago, last time was stepping off kerb in Paris when visiting to watch rugby.
Unfortunately, I now suffer lots of pain, but still very fortunate compared to some.
Can still hobble around Golf Course. ?

03 Apr 2026 18:24:06
Aw naw, Yateley, of all the stories that one still made me wince the most.

03 Apr 2026 18:41:55
Fractured arm at karate training and didn't realise for a couple of hours.

03 Apr 2026 18:59:59
Chipped ankle bone playing 5's. Plastered for about 6 weeks. Was off work, but able to get out on the golf course after 4 weeks. Played great golf with the plaster, as it seemed to steady my left leg. Also broke my thumb, again playing 5's. Decided not to play any more fives and concentrate fully on the golf (without the plaster).

03 Apr 2026 19:55:21
EhL, you're not Lee Wilkie, are you? Or McLeod, but I recon you're too old to be McLeod lol.

03 Apr 2026 20:01:27
Can't recall any major injury while playing, but as a teenager I broke my ankle in a way that should be in a comedy movie. I tripped over my dog, ankle hurt at that point, but probably not broken. I sat with my ankle up on a stool as per mother's instructions, then my dog came through again, decided she couldn't be bothered walking around me, so tried to jump over my leg, landed on it, and I heard the crack.

One trip to the hospital later, ankle in plaster for a few weeks, chipped bone.

03 Apr 2026 21:10:30
A few sore ones there, fear not if you have been scarred, broken, got a limp or in constant pain, please spare a thought for poor old Yately and his massive swollen baws. ??

03 Apr 2026 21:56:11
Aye that's in plum position to be the sairest. ???

03 Apr 2026 23:21:04
Three Cheers, I really do not want to think about Yateley baws.
