So if I'm correct with Google here, Chermiti 9 goals in 23 games. Including the rm era. Is that not a good return. New young player joining a new club in a diffrent country.
People can argue this that or whatever but he's nearly a goal every 2 games. Both Chermiti and Naderi need some slack from the fans. We're back in the title race support the players.
24 Mar 2026 19:29:26
34 games, 9 goals. Davie, your stats only show league games, but that is his total stats and his 9 goals have come from 5 matches, so that's 18 league games he hasn't scored in either, and of those 5 goals 3 wins, 1 draw, 1 defeat.
Fans are allowed to ask for better from an £8-10m striker, and the board should never have sanctioned a deal that significant for a lad who has no history of scoring goals.
As when he doesn't score, he is going to be under pressure. I swear our standards as fans have dropped significantly.
I've grown up with some outstanding strikers like McCoist, Mols, Prso, Jelavic, Boyd and Negri, so maybe I was spoiled by some great goalscorers, but I expect more.
24 Mar 2026 19:37:00
Got to agree with BbJ here, it's just another excuse for our strikers not scoring.
24 Mar 2026 19:50:33
For whatever reason, he appears to be going backwards. When he does get into scoring position, he misses chances.
Rest of time, he is not even in areas where he can score from.
8-10m, maybe not a lot in England, but big outlay for us, so fans expect better.
Got to agree with BbJ about past strikers we had who could score. I remember further back to Colin Stein & the fact we had great wingers in Henderson, Johnston to supply them.
24 Mar 2026 19:52:33
BbJ, my standards haven't dropped but my patience has just remained the same.
Feel free to carry on binning players before they get a chance to see out a season on here, and we will continue to never win a trophy. Funny thing is that this season with our dreadfuls strikers we might have a chance of winning it. Who would have thought. So perhaps they give something more to the team to achieve that than just goals.
I was lucky enough to watch them and a good few more as well, and the majority of the strikers we have had got so much stick from the stands every time they missed a chance or we lost or drew. Some things never change, I suppose.
Are our strikers just an excuse for fans to moan whether they score lots or not? There always seems to be something they don't like.
24 Mar 2026 20:06:57
Anyone who thinks 9 goals in 34 games is reasonable is deluded.
24 Mar 2026 20:14:27
Like many on here I've seen as far back as Derek Johnstone, Derek Parlane and Colin Stein and rated them all as Rangers strikers, and do recognise the game has changed over the decades. ? I'm also prepared to give Chermiti,
Naderi and Miovski a chance as they've not completed a season at Rangers yet, Naderi only a couple of months to date. ? I've been very lucky to have seen superb strikers in all my many years of going to watch the Rangers and, honestly, guys, hand on heart, I truly rate Marco 'Goalo' Negri the best/most natural finisher of them all. ? That doesn't mean to say I'm overlooking the superb Ally McCoist, our record goalscorer, and Kris Boyd an outstanding finisher along with the others, but Negri for me was the most natural I've witnessed imo in those several months from August to November, his movement and natural finishing attributes were absolutely stunning, to say the least.
? Got to also mention the immense Michael Mols, as I've never seen a striker like him, the way he could turn his opponent. ? Truly outstanding and also knew where the goals were. ? But let's give our current strikers a chance here and evaluate where we are at the end of the season, and I truly expect all 3, if still here, to be better again next season. ? ??

Spot on Whatsmyname, if Chermiti is so great, where were the other clubs desperate to sign him for the money involved?
24 Mar 2026 20:42:38
Angus, come on now, please don't start with the 'they offer something else', Chermiti has only 2 assists from those 34 games, and he averages 64 mins over this period.
I'm sorry, but the 'we might actually win something' does nothing for me, as we lost the only cup final we were in to our biggest rivals and were knocked out in the other again by our biggest rivals.
Yes, we 'might' win the league, but that isn't because our strikers are free scoring and getting assists.
I will state that when we spend the kind of cash we did (not his fault ofc), that will come with a huge amount of pressure, and, like I stated earlier, he may very well suit a positional change.
24 Mar 2026 20:44:23
Sir Walter, I agree with your assessment of Mols. Was on course to become one of our greatest ever before that stupid tackle from Khan.
24 Mar 2026 20:49:02
Tackle? Was attempted murder.
24 Mar 2026 21:09:22
BbJ, it's pointless. Some will always make excuses for strikers not scoring goals, even though that is their main job.
24 Mar 2026 22:29:12
Literally what they get signed for, bud.
24 Mar 2026 22:39:21
BbJ, I'm stepping back from this because it's becoming a bit repetitive. My point is that while I'd like to see strikers scoring more, I'm not entirely sure what Rohl's specific tactical demands are.
I've suggested before that he clearly values more than just goal-scoring, or he would have made changes by now. He has publicly stated they offer "something else" - that isn't my opinion; it's his.
If we win the title, I'll be happy regardless of the strikers' goal tallies.
Even when someone like Dessers scores, fans still found fault so it obviously isn't enough for strikers just to score goals.
At least some of us don't think it is just about winning and making a point here, but are trying to have a real discussion, though. Simply stating that scoring is a striker's "main job" is an opinion, whereas I'm trying to look at what Rohl actually expects from them.
But, as I say, I will back out before 'some' make it more personal rather than about the discussion. Thanks again for keeping it respectful, how it should be, and I know I cross the line on that too many times.
24 Mar 2026 23:17:04
Well, God knows what he sees Angus as. As I stated earlier, Chermiti has 2 assists and Naderi 3, I think it was. Maybe we are just too tactically inept to fully grasp what else they offer.
We can all cross the line at times, tbf, since we all love Rangers and want silverware.
24 Mar 2026 23:39:11
I think people need to wake up and realise we are not in the same position as we were previously to attract these types of players.
I'm not saying we should lower our standards or not have the same expectations domestically, but when our team are in the midst of a title challenge, and are clearly improving, what we don't need are yesterday men constantly slating our players at any opportunity.
We get it, everybody knows we paid too much for someone with Chermiti's experience, we knew that a long time ago, but get over it, support the guy for the time being, and let's hope he can help deliver a title. Then, when the time is right to assess the squad, we can.
I genuinely think some folk have been in the habit of slatting our own team and players for so long they can't help it.
24 Mar 2026 23:50:22
We need more from the lad. He comes deep to pick up the ball and link up play. Not got a problem with that.
But when he releases the ball he needs to get himself back in an attacking position. Far too often when he comes deep, he stays deep and takes himself out of the attacking phase.
That should be Naderi's role. Chermiti's movement should be more subtle, in and around the backline, constantly having them looking over their shoulder. But atm he's too easy to defend against.
25 Mar 2026 09:00:19
Scotty, Rangers fans support our players, you must be having a laugh, mate.
25 Mar 2026 10:48:00
All the players do get supported. This is a complete myth that they don't. This is a debating site, so should we not debate about all things Rangers on here and everyone should just agree on everything?
Angus, are you saying Rohl doesn't want our strikers to score because of the tactics he is using? I am not saying you are, am just
asking the question.
Maybe Rohl should just value that goals win games.
Football can be the easiest game in the world. Score more than your opponents so you get players that score goals.
25 Mar 2026 11:30:41
Spot on, Storm. I'm critical of some players on here as I don't believe they are of the quality to win us league titles or cups on a regular basis, people can disagree about it that's fine but I support the team every minute of every game regardless of who's picked or what I think of them
Scotty, we all know we can't afford the calibre of player from yesteryear but then you see that other lot in recent times spend a combined 9 million on Kyogo, Kuhn and Maeda while we decide to spend that on an unproven boy with no scoring record previously and a mediocre one so far here - the price tag isn't Chermiti's fault but it's what we paid and what someone felt he was worth and for that outlay I expect way better than he's shown up to now, one of the reasons we also shouldn't be touching Olsen unless he turns it on over the last 7 games.
25 Mar 2026 11:43:51
Yes, apologies, that will just be league games.
25 Mar 2026 12:21:02
Bbj, you would think we were in Celtic's position of title after title, cup after cup. Some seem to forget about how many titles and cups we've had in past 15 years, us that do remember will always expect more from certain players, especially the ones that come with big price tags, obviously not their fault, obviously not the fans' fault either.
9 goals in 33 odd games will never cut it for our star striker. We pay good money to go watch these guys, so imo we're entitled to opinion of expecting more, while some are happy with mediocre.
25 Mar 2026 12:50:08
BB4, I can appreciate that, but so you know just because I choose to try to see the best of the team doesn't mean I am happy to settle for mediocre.
I have said our strikers don't score enough but always want to understand why. Is it them or the way they are played? That is it.
25 Mar 2026 13:05:50
BBJ is correct that Chermiti's scoring record doesn't compare with the great strikers of the past, the problem is his record doesn't even compare with strikers that we don't regard as great, like Flo and Andersson etc. His goals in the Hearts game and two OF games were magnificent, but doing that is not enough.
As a Rangers striker, he needs to turn up in the other games too, and his numbers in these games are terrible. If he was the type of striker that was setting up chances for others, then he might be due some slack, but he doesn't even do that. We need a big 7 games from him now to convince me.
25 Mar 2026 13:09:15
Angus, I wasn't meaning you, I was meaning in general. There's nothing wrong with expecting more, same as nothing wrong with you trying to understand why? We should always strive for better.
