Many writing Skov Olsen off.
6 matches, minutes totalling around 4 matches.
4 goal contributions
If he carries on with that average in numbers he easily blows away anyone we already have.
Cerny was written off after the same but after an full season of more than 50 matches he is now seen as the benchmark.
Exactly the same with Sima.
Yes he has to do better but he has certainly done more than given credit for.
As for the transfer fee. If we want to continue shopping in the bargain basement then we will undoubtedly continue our expected return of around 1 title every decade.
03 Mar 2026 16:03:15
People have asked: is he worth buying based on what he has produced so far? I don't believe he is, as things stand. We can't see into the future; he may have a fantastic end to the campaign. At least it is not an obligation to buy.
03 Mar 2026 16:07:14
Need the boy that was at Brugge, Aph. He's done OK, but we would like more, bud. ?
03 Mar 2026 16:17:25
Of course, Fork, I am in complete agreement that he has to show more. I have never said anything different.
I am acutely aware that this does not happen overnight.
3 months without football, to then bring 4 goal contributions in 6 matches, is not a terrible start.
Of course, we should hope for more, but we need to give players a chance.
03 Mar 2026 16:19:54
I rate Andreas Skov Olsen, Fork, but I expected much more than what we're seeing now. I'll give him time, as I do with all new players, and hope he finds his true form. ?
03 Mar 2026 16:22:18
Spot on, bud. Time will tell. ?
03 Mar 2026 16:22:47
I am undecided at the moment, Aph. I agree he has the final-third quality we need, and even though he is not always heavily involved, he always has a game-changing moment in him. I don't doubt that at all.
For me, it all depends on how he adapts to the club. If he shows the right attitude and feels comfortable in the country, then it's a no-brainer, imo.
The good thing is we can assess that at the end of the season rather than a handful of games in. It's a bit too early to tell at this point how that goes for me. But I still have high hopes for him.
03 Mar 2026 16:25:37
We still need to be living within our means, especially after recent history. The big question is whether they represent value, given what we can afford and given the money we need across the team. Even if he starts performing well, would it be worth close to record fees if we are having to cost cut and keep our defence? That being said, I have no idea what our budget will be or what European FFP rules will allow us to spend.
03 Mar 2026 16:36:41
My understanding is the option is to protect the club in regards to serious injury etc.
The player has agreed a contract in principle and I believe the club are prepared to keep that agreement.
Kaiser, 100% we need to live within our means but the club do see this as long term value.
People want Maseanhise.
How much would he cost? Using Bowie as the comparable, I would say he would cost around 8 million euros.
I truly believe that Andreas at this stage is better value for that sort of price.
Maseanhise has had an unbelievable season that cannot be overstated, but he would still be an exceptional risk.
03 Mar 2026 16:37:05
I differ from the general opinion on here; I think he's done OK. I can see a glimmer of class with his passing and retention. I'm not sure he's at his best having to track back on our right wing. He's played next to no football before us for a while, so I think he's done OK, with better to come.
We spent 8m on Chermiti, and it took a while for that to look decent value. These sorts of fees are not huge money in football nowadays. Where I would show concern is whether he really is up for playing football now; he seems a touch lost, which is a shame.
03 Mar 2026 16:51:06
Skov is an excellent footballer. Very tidy on the ball. I can count on one hand how many times he has given the ball away since arriving. His crosses are tremendous, hence the assists. He is not the type of player, like Gassama, to run and dribble.
He's more intelligent, and once we find more cohesion with him, we will get the benefit of his skills more, and this will return more G/A's. I for one believe he will be a success. Some fans would still prefer Candeias on the wing, banter year stuff.
03 Mar 2026 17:02:49
Very good assessment, Borna. Unfortunately, people don't like the evolution of football.
03 Mar 2026 16:53:55
Aph coming from who thinks Barron offers nothing to the club but says Olson is brilliant goes 2 show you don't know much about players
03 Mar 2026 17:08:17
Carson, the fact you make false claims about what I said shows you are only trying to cause issues.
03 Mar 2026 17:09:43
Surely it will depend on where we finish in the league, with the potential to finish fourth and Conference League money. We will have to balance the books, and hopefully other mob don't win the league, their finances will take a doing. Hearts, on the other hand, should they win the league, the boy Bloom is not afraid to splash cash.
03 Mar 2026 17:16:49
I would be very surprised if Maswanhise goes for anything like that, and would also then question paying that much for him. I think Motherwell players are being seen as cheaper alternative quality players based on their low wages and contracts. They have also impressed way beyond expectation.
Bowie, though, as you say, may show a change in valuation, but that's yet to be seen on a regular basis. Skov excited me, but would be a high-cost risk, breaking our wage structure. I'd put a big question mark based on what we've seen so far and at his last club, which didn't work out.
03 Mar 2026 17:28:47
So, you never said Barron offers nothing, you and Storm. ? ? ?
03 Mar 2026 17:38:40
No, I asked a question regarding what he does.
03 Mar 2026 17:39:21
Mate, you also said Aasgaard was an amazing player and will do this and that, when in fact he's done nothing.
03 Mar 2026 17:44:35
Mate, so why would you ask that question if you don't think he's good enough? At least Storm has stuck by his comments on it; you're now backtracking. ? ?
03 Mar 2026 17:45:25
Never once said anything of the sort about Aasgaard.
03 Mar 2026 17:55:22
Yes, you did. Listen, I'm 2 old for arguing with people. We read what u said about Barron and Aasgaard. You're allowed your opinions on players; I'm not saying you can't. I'm just repeating what you said in the past.
03 Mar 2026 17:56:26
Sorry Aphelion, u did actually say that (I've responded on a separate thread about what was said), but don't see it as relevant in regards to Olsen, and it doesn't really add to the discussion. Just my opinion, as it's a decent debate going on.
03 Mar 2026 17:57:51
No backtracking at all, Carson.
You are making unsubstantiated false claims, which I have corrected you on.
03 Mar 2026 17:58:45
Aphelion, evolution of football? I don't get that, unless you're trying to have a dig at posters.
03 Mar 2026 18:07:10
You haven't corrected me at all. I think Kiser just corrected you. ?
03 Mar 2026 18:19:53
Carson, he has defended Aasargard, but he never said he was an amazing player.
People want Maswanhise, and I am sure I have seen a few say he is a right winger. He has played 42 times as a CF, 38 as a left winger, and 8 as a right winger. He has played other positions, but these are the ones he would play with us.
He also wouldn't get as much space out wide like he does with Mwell. He has played a lot of games since December, I think, as a striker.
Olsen, for the money, I would not sign him right now.
If his form doesn't get better, then it would be a no. It would be a terrible business decision to sign a player on the wage and fee for this sort of return.
He may have 4 assists, Aphe, and a goal, but I want wingers doing a lot more than what he does. I have not seen him go by a player once.
We need better. What I will say is he still has time to prove, but on what I have seen so far I would rather Sima or Cerny, though I don't think they will come.
03 Mar 2026 18:33:18
Aphelion, I never watched the guy before he got here, but was expecting big things given the hype. What more does he have to his game that he hasn't been showing so far? He doesn't seem particularly strong, fast, or hard-working, and he doesn't tend to take players on.
Has he always been like that, or does he look like he lacks confidence? Is he the type we only really want on the ball in the final third for his shooting and crossing? I'm not sure we can afford to start someone like that in such a hard fought title race.
03 Mar 2026 18:39:30
Jv1, it is primarily a confidence issue at the moment, especially after such a lengthy time not playing.
He has never been a Chris Burke-type winger, though, but he is the type of right winger we have been desperate for.
03 Mar 2026 18:40:29
Star, I guess, because the game has moved on from the days of the old-school winger, who just has their head down and sprints to the byline to cross into the middle.
Skov Olsen is more of a wide playmaker who wants to cut inside when space is created by our FB going wide.
3 chances created per 90 minutes shows he is starting to do that, so he is already more creative than anyone we have, despite coming mid-season and just finding his feet after being 3 months without playing. There is more to come.
03 Mar 2026 18:49:50
Once again, 100% correct, Angus.
03 Mar 2026 18:52:56
To be fair, Olsen does not give the ball away. If Rommens was a right back, I think we would see a lot more from Olsen. He does not put the ball in on a Hail Mary cross, it's usually to a player he's picked out.
03 Mar 2026 18:52:19
Borna bear I could play on the wing and pass it back to the right back 90% of the time and not give the ball away come on now.
03 Mar 2026 19:01:36
We know that, Angus.
03 Mar 2026 19:05:53
Carson, I haven't said Barron does nothing on these pages once. So, I don't know why you are posting my name. I said he runs about like a headless chicken, though he has had some good games. ?
03 Mar 2026 19:10:15
I'm not that keen on predominantly left-footed right wingers, which is the fashion with them cutting inside. Though he seems good with his right too, and has a couple of excellent assists.
I think it actually worked really well in the 1st half, having Sterling, who doesn't attack as much, which meant Olsen didn't cut inside as much, which led to his cross for Chermiti.
Just a shame it didn't last in the 2nd.
03 Mar 2026 19:11:24
Olsen is getting judged far too quickly, like every player that pulls on that Rangers jersey. He had a good half on Sunday against Celtic, and did a fair bit of work off the ball, but he'd need to raise his game in the remaining months. His fee and wage on his current form wouldn't make any sense, imo.
03 Mar 2026 19:21:15
The thing about Olsen was that he had to hit the ground running. He is here to win the league this year, not next year or the year after. He didn't have time. We don't have time.
imo he has shown very little that he can be the game changer we all hoped he could be. I have said before, if this Celtic team wins the league, it could put us back years.
03 Mar 2026 20:12:27
Correct BT1958, Olsen was brought in to win the league. His form won't win us the title, and he's been very disappointing. I've said before that I watched him against Scotland in WC qualifiers and he did nothing!! Wouldn't be signing him, unfortunately, unless we see a dramatic turn. ✌️
03 Mar 2026 20:43:08
It's not a fair assumption you make regarding Connor Barron. He does not run about like a headless chicken, mate. I'm fed up saying that. Barron, with his superb engine, attitude, and work ethic, breaks up opposition attacks to regain possession, which allows our more technical, attack-minded players to go and do their jobs at the business end of the pitch for us.
? Give him credit for God's sake. ? So disrespectful and nowhere near correct to say that all Barron does is run around like a headless chicken. ?
03 Mar 2026 21:17:38
100% SWS.
03 Mar 2026 21:30:05
Barron was arguably our best player for a period of time there before his injury. Definitely most consistent performer at that time.
03 Mar 2026 23:46:48
Correct SWS, says more about them.
04 Mar 2026 01:12:53
Put it this way. If I had no clue how much the 4 January signings were worth, and you told me to guess who the 9m player was, I'd say Rommens.
If Barron wasn't Scottish, he'd be held in higher regard. He always gives his all, and was one of the best players before injury.
04 Mar 2026 07:31:39
Never quite sure why we signed Olsen in Jan for what it is costing us, unless we thought he was going to be the missing piece that was going to win the league.
On current showing, it has been misspent. He shows a few touches, but not much else.
We knew he was not match fit after little game time, mostly due to his lack of form and probably lack of commitment. He does not seem to have a lot of desire to get really involved.
04 Mar 2026 08:15:43
Some good opinions on here. As it stands, Olsen needs to do more, and I expect more. Two of his assists for Chermiti, the header and the overhead kick, are more about what Chermiti did, imo. The first wee chipped ball, Chermiti jumped easily 23 feet in the air (someone will need to fact check that), and his overhead kick speaks for itself. Olsen may be a different type of winger who likes to come inside, but he still should be going past defenders more, imo; it's not like they are doubling up on him.
I can see he's a good player, and I've said previously he'll need time. My issue was bringing in a player who hadn't played in 3 months when you are right in the middle of a title race. By the end of the season, hopefully we'll all be saying, wow, get him signed up.
As for Barron, he was imo our best player before getting injured, and nobody matches his work rate or intensity. I think we've missed him and that kind of attitude in the middle of the park.
04 Mar 2026 10:05:31
Aphelion, most of us have not written him off. Most of us think he will come good the question is he worth that fee and at the moment it's a no.
04 Mar 2026 10:48:16
Coops, i am not going over old arguments it's my opinion and am entitled to it. though I see you glossed over the bit about some good games.
He wasn't our best player before injury think this is hagi syndrome as he turned into the 2nd coming of Messi when he was injured.
Running about like a headless chicken does mean plenty of energy I would say also.
04 Mar 2026 12:41:45
Storm, do you have the legs to play right wing and pass it back?
