Hope I'm wrong but I feel R Martin has been hung out to dry has he got the signings he wants the Greeks could hurt him feel the new board haven't been as good as we had hoped by spending on quality players it's a big ask tomorrow if he loses will fans be on his back.
21 Jul 2025 07:04:26
How do you know they not quality? They have spent some money! We ain't going out buying 10m players anymore. I'd wait and see how things go before judging . No even seen his team play yet!
21 Jul 2025 07:08:54
Signing three players from clubs in the Epl and a couple of players that are one of the best players at clubs in a better league, I really don't get your thinking Mkb.
21 Jul 2025 07:11:01
Mk - Its pretty obvious we can't keep bringing players in till those we want rid of are gone - that's why we are in sheet at moment due to big money wages for no return for those we are trying to clear out - its a business and one which had been poorly run until hopefully now! It will be a while before all these big earning imposters are gone?.
21 Jul 2025 07:24:05
We have most likely spent what can be spent at this stage if not more, spots in squad need to become vacant for us to keep bringing in better quality.
Like EHL stated a lot depends on what stage of European competition we play in this season etc.
Also bringing in the cash plus wage savings for departing players. Costlier signings may only happen if igamane or another go for a considerable sum.
21 Jul 2025 07:31:31
Were desperate to ship players out. I do like the players we have brought in especially rothwell and aasgaard. Although i would have liked a bit more variation than just shopping in england. And we still need a few brought in.
21 Jul 2025 07:47:57
Squad bloated makes no sense to keep buying until players move problem is mistakes made previously the issue - matondo king Propper Davies on more than they should be and hard to shift.
21 Jul 2025 07:54:13
I agree rusty, looking forward to seeing aasgaard and rothwell, I really wanted us to get rothwell last time we tried before he went to Bournemouth, looks a very tidy player.
21 Jul 2025 07:55:18
Hung out to dry? Absolute nonsense. Some quality in, some to go. I'd say at this early stage we are operating efficiently. How effective that will be remains to be seen but it only gets better. Hung out to dry? No no no.
21 Jul 2025 08:02:01
We need to be patient and see how these players fare starting tomorrow evening. Those players we want out as has been mentioned above, if they are playing hardball, put them with the youths and let them know that's where they will remain, if they are interested in their futures, they'll soon play ball.
21 Jul 2025 08:11:31
Disagree MKB, these seem very much like Martins choices. Pretty much ripped up all Koppens work and gone back to English market for him. Whether or not they work remains to be seen but not blaming the new board. 7 in already despite none out is good backing. More will happen after we beat Pana.
21 Jul 2025 08:44:18
News flash - its not the 90's or early 00's anymore. We cannot go out and spend millions on the calibre of players like Gazza, Laudrup, De Boers, Mols etc anymore.
Who says that the players brought in will not turn out to be quality? To suggest RM has been hung out to dry is ridiculous.
21 Jul 2025 09:01:29
I think RM has made sensible signings. We all want a quality CB, Winger and Striker…. But as many have said we have to move out those players from the fringes. What I like is us appearing to stand fast in regards players like Igamane because that's what the stability offered by 49ers was designed to do
And much as I hope to see the likes of Propper go I can see from his side, twente will be paying him less and he wants a sweetener to go. Do I like it no, but these are the complications involved in transfers.
21 Jul 2025 09:45:01
The window is open until 1st September, totally unrealistic thst we would have all our transfer business concluded by the Panathinaikos game. Some teams are literally just starting their preseason training. There will be loads of business still to happen ins and outs before the transfer window closes. It's time for the support to be the 12th man and send the Greeks home with their tails between their legs.
21 Jul 2025 09:45:15
Kaiser I agree mate ?.
21 Jul 2025 09:54:49
Kaiser guys like gassama etc were on our radar and identified by koppen etc not the new regime.
Gassama said he knew of our interest in December.
We haven't ripped up his work.
21 Jul 2025 10:08:01
I don't think so, he's managed to get in a lot of talent. Way more than Clement ever managed to in one window.
21 Jul 2025 10:12:40
Lets be fair to Mkb concerns. Rightly so he has mentioned our signings, we don't exactly have a great deal of success from the markets down south. Although its too early to tell but what is a fact is that we have had a lot more failures from down south in recent years than players who have actually made grade. The board have backed RM and I'm glad they have done so and moved away from Koppen's blue print. The plus side of signing from down south is that they should integrate very quickly and we should not be gaslighted by settling in issues. Tomorrow night we will have a better idea if they have what it takes.
21 Jul 2025 10:33:04
Just because a player isn't bought for £Ms doesn't mean we have lesser quality in our squad. It's about identifying the right player that can play here and progress. Look at Engels and Idah over there 20m on 2 players that get slated.
21 Jul 2025 10:34:45
Jasper we r told transfer business depends what tourney we r in, so means we need to wait till last couple days of the window.
21 Jul 2025 10:41:24
Mate we have about 40 players- it's hard to shift players who are on nearly 30 grand a week and do not want to move. Previous bad decisions have hamstrung us this summer, despite that we have still added 7 players so I'd say the board have backed Martin as best they can until we get a few sales.
21 Jul 2025 10:46:00
Coully did Koppen not say that we wouldn't be shopping in England as you don't get value for money? I thought we went for Gassama because of his contract situation, otherwise he would be far too expensive. I don't believe Koppen had identified him.
21 Jul 2025 11:08:46
7 in by mid July is decent going to be fair and I'm quietly confident they'll be fine. Getting players out the door is going to be an issue. It's an issue for many clubs. It's not as easy as many think or they'd all be gone by now. With the window being open till the 1st September IMO a few will leave permanently, some out on loan and a few will probably still be hanging around unless an offer is made that suits us, the player and team interested. 1 thing I'm sure of thou our days of scatty recruitment is over.
21 Jul 2025 11:51:26
RM has not been hung out to dry. This is the process I expected. To take a much hated phrase from the PC era we are restructuring/ rebuilding.
21 Jul 2025 11:53:10
Woodsy, why would you move away from Koppen's blue print, you not wanting anymore Igamane"s found, something up here.
21 Jul 2025 11:58:45
Woodsy, Djiga, Fernandez, and Gassama have been scouted for a while.
21 Jul 2025 12:15:32
One last post - can't resist.
Coully, very sensible posts.
John, we know you're not daft, so can only assume you're twisting my posts deliberately - which is verging on pathetic.
