A wee bit on Cerny btw,
The timeline for Cerny's departure is directly tied to a massive incoming deal. Besiktas is in the final stages of signing free agent Mohamed Salah following his departure from Liverpool. His agent is reportedly finalizing terms in Turkey. The moment Salah's contract is sealed, Besiktas is expected to immediately green light Cerny's exit to stay within squad regulations.
Seeing 10-12 and 8-10 million euros(Β£8.5) but may revise to Β£6.9 million.
Rangers' hierarchy is heavily tipped to match the valuation using funds structured around performance add-ons to bypass upfront wage hurdles.
Just what I'm seeing guys.π
27 Jul 2026 09:22:04
I'd love Cerny back, mate, but not at those prices? Is a loan with obligation an option? Hopefully.
27 Jul 2026 09:26:04
Fork, in my opinion only, I think we will sign him.
27 Jul 2026 09:29:44
This is a similar situation to Dahl, and something I've been trying to highlight over the last few days on various threads.
The core element of transfer fees impacts the Squad Cost Ratio calculation for the duration of the contract - I used our transfers from last season as an example, where we spent between Β£30-40m, which means that around Β£8-10m is accounted for and measured against our turnover for effectively 4 seasons.
The flip side of this is that if we sell Raskin for Β£20m, we'll get around Β£18m in profit in our calculation this season - which is awesome, but presents a challenge, as that Β£18m profit isn't spread across the next 4 years.
So, what the club are trying to do in negotiations is reduce the fee and increase the ad ons, as we can take the hit on add ons in one reporting period.
27 Jul 2026 09:33:11
Sunshine, let the owners worry about his price, mate, I said something similar about the Olsen deal, our owners think it's doable, leave them to them.
I would so love Cerny being our player.
27 Jul 2026 09:36:33
Unsure, bud, never came across that, just outright prices, but aye, might be an option, won't know unless we ask. Don't know if it needs to be a sale, due to Besitkas squad dynamics. π
27 Jul 2026 09:41:49
Sunshine, I agree loan with option probably suits us the most. If he comes in and still at the level he was, we buy, if not, we are tied.
27 Jul 2026 09:51:40
Great info, Ehl.
27 Jul 2026 10:02:19
So we didn't buy Cerny for 5million ish last season, but we're now going to buy him for 7million ish this season.
27 Jul 2026 10:07:38
I get people saying it's a large outlay on Cerny, but he's tried and tested in the league, and if he helps win a league title it's worth it.
Who knows, we might sign Fallnious and the lad works out brilliantly.
You never know how a player will adapt and adjust to a league.
Cerny, we do know because we've seen it.
He's not being bought as an investment; he's being bought to improve the team and help us win silverware.
Him with Shanks and Chermiti could be brilliant.
Yesterday, defensively we looked a lot better, but going forward we are still struggling to create chances.
27 Jul 2026 10:11:39
Well explained, Ehl, thanks.
27 Jul 2026 10:16:59
Great insight, Ehl.
It's almost opposite to how some of the big clubs down south and in Europe use transfers to balance the books in season. They sell players for, say, Β£50m, but then buy another for Β£100m, but can spread the fee over the term of the contract.
It's why we see a lot of players, especially home grown players, moving, Anderson, McTomminay etc.
We have the issue that we cannot guarantee sales every year, so if we spend too much we could end up with issues going forward, even if we bring in double what we spend.
27 Jul 2026 11:04:39
I would pay 6-7 million anything.
27 Jul 2026 11:06:21
We certainly shouldn't be paying those prices if that's what Besiktas are after.
Would love Cerny back, but this is a guy who we won't be getting money back on if he's here a few years. Would definitely low ball the upfront fee and make it performance-based fees.
27 Jul 2026 11:08:32
Reports in Turkey that Trabzonspor are after him. Probably keep his high salary?
27 Jul 2026 11:13:56
Bigbluejim, I agree to a certain point, mate, but we need experienced players signed that we won't make much back on. The type of players winning us trophies should be our main concern when signing this type of experience.
I did get a bit worried with the Olsen situation, but then was pointed out by others, let our owners decide if it was doable; we're not where we once were.
27 Jul 2026 11:21:48
Excellent post, Fork, brought good info.
Excellent insight Ehl.
27 Jul 2026 11:25:28
We don't have to make money on every signing. For me, Cerny is the type of player the team is crying out. Tried and tested and has the numbers to boot.
27 Jul 2026 11:38:25
How many good wingers have we signed since Gerrard 2/3 max? I'd say Kent, Cerny and Sima. In all that time every other winger we signed has flopped. Clearly it's hard to get wingers that are good within our budget. I'd 100% pay a couple extra mil to get Cerny over the line.
27 Jul 2026 11:46:28
Would love to see Czerny back, and/or Sima. Was gutted to see them both have to leave at the end of their loans because we couldn't afford them at the time. Both made our attack much more potent. As others have said, leave the affordability issues to our seemingly rather savvy owners.
27 Jul 2026 11:48:01
Cerny is tried and tested, and into his peak years, we tried Skov Olsen and it didn't work out, so I'd much rather pay the money and get Cerny back in the door as opposed to the unknown.
27 Jul 2026 11:52:40
Why, thank you, Stiggy boy. ππ
27 Jul 2026 11:56:45
Would like him back but he's a player we won't be making any cash on in the future. Genuinely wouldn't be paying any more than 4m.
27 Jul 2026 12:12:25
GMS, we also need experienced players signed that we know we wouldn't get his money back, but trophies is more important than getting monies back for these types of players, Olsen would have cost us more, and we all know Cerny can do the damage in a Rangers jersey.
27 Jul 2026 12:25:36
I don't disagree, Star. I want Cerny signing, just not at the prices being quoted, as we know we make nothing back on him.
Besiktas didn't even pay that price for him, and want to ship him out after a season.
So everyone knows they can't demand those figures as they want rid. Like I said, I'd low ball the initial fee and make the add ons performance based.
That, for me, is win win.
27 Jul 2026 12:38:07
I really like Cerny but I think Cozier Duberry would be a better signing for similar money. Cerny isn't blessed with pace or beating people in one on one, whereas Duberry is, and that's exactly what we need. Someone who can beat their man to open up more space in the final third.
27 Jul 2026 12:46:19
We need to get our head around that. If we want quality, it might cost a bit of money and the player may not have a big resale value. So far, we have brought in 3 frees and 1 loan player, so we should be able to buy a couple of quality players like Cerny or Dahl. If we could have got Cerny for Β£5million last summer, then that's just another mistake made by that management team, especially when you look at the money we did spend on guys like Antman, Gassama and Aasgaard.
We also probably spent a couple of million for Skov Olsen's loan that we wouldn't have needed if we could have got Cerny then.
Clubs are spending millions on average players, and it pushes prices up on everybody.
27 Jul 2026 12:54:27
Bigbluejim, don't think it will be the fee getting mentioned, I'm letting the owners worry about now, was on my mind a good few times but they think it's doable, I'm cool with it now.
27 Jul 2026 13:13:35
Cerny a bit of a no-brainer if possible, can handle the league and puts defenders s*** themselves when he's running at them. Think he could be better with possible two strikers in box, which should give him a better option of hitting bye line and not cutting in all the time, plus gives manager more options in Europe playing off a striker.
27 Jul 2026 13:14:23
You're most welcome, Mr Fork. ππ
27 Jul 2026 13:28:36
Blue, he is playing in English League1. How good would Gassama have looked in that league?
27 Jul 2026 13:32:31
Cerny transfer fee isn't really the issue; it's his wages. He's reportedly on around Β£60k a week. That's double our top budget.
Nobody is getting near those wages.
27 Jul 2026 13:39:00
Cerny is not on 3m a year, Richy.
27 Jul 2026 13:49:31
He's on EUR60, 192, Β£ 45 grand a week.
27 Jul 2026 14:23:11
I liked Cerny as a player. Been going on about wide players for about a decade now and him and Sima are the only good ones in that time.
But I just don't like this transfer if it happens for a couple of reasons.
Like most, the cost is too high in wages and fee for a player who will most likely be on a downward trajectory over the next couple of seasons. At 27, I would be all over it, but 29, not for me.
Secondly, I really don't like returning players. Think there is enough expectation and pressure on players at Ibrox without having to live up to a previously successful spell.
My last issue would be that it would be a failure of our scouting system for me. Their job is to find the next successful wide player, not go running back over previous players.
I also am not entirely confident that he will emulate his original success as a player with us as we are a totally new team and manager. Think PC got the best out of him. Not sure if that would be replicated.
27 Jul 2026 14:23:22
I'd have Vaclav Cerny back in a heartbeat. π Blue, are you thinking of the same player as me, mate? π€ Cerny is fast, my friend. π
27 Jul 2026 14:32:13
Cerny is not fast, he's not slow either, I think he's direct and can shift direction quickly, good feet, but he hasn't got blistering pace.
27 Jul 2026 14:34:16
Blue89 Cerny scored 19 goals and got a bunch of assists.
For someone with no pace and can't beat a man that's pretty good stats.
In comparison to a lad who's never played in Scotland who could be good or fail in the league which unfortunately we've seen all too many times.
27 Jul 2026 14:58:59
Take Cerny back in a beat. Why are we not looking at Sima again? Another player who was great, still very young and affordable? That's two main wingers of a front three with Gassama and Curtis backing up, rotating.
27 Jul 2026 18:25:41
Fork. / EHL for the last time, stop talking sense on here. I am having none of it. π
Let's stick to Aasgaard and Dahl like above.
Priceless. πΏπΏ
