Raskin potentially going to Villareal
Fee rumoured to be around €20M but think it will likely have add ons on top of that
18 Jul 2026 07:31:39
Little on the cheap side for me.
18 Jul 2026 07:35:40
Of course, would love more but that's still a good fee for a SPL player, and one the club wanted out last year. Kinda just want it done so we can get on sorting the new team.
18 Jul 2026 08:02:56
It's a little disappointing if we don't beat the Bassey record of £19.6m for a lauded World Cup starter for a top 10 team. However, if £17m allows us to replace him with two or even three quality players who are younger, good enough for the first team already, and are prospects for huge sell-ons in the future, you can see why the owners would set aside any romantic notions and get on with sound business.
18 Jul 2026 08:05:58
While I don't disagree entirely, Peterpanloyal, we've got to remember how poor he was for us last season. Yes, he's had a good World Cup, hence why he's going for around 20m now. Based on his performances for us over the last season or 2, we'd be lucky to get just over 10m for him.
While I do think we will squeeze a bit more from the deal, it's a fair deal. Get a good 20% sell on him, get him gone and get the replacements in.
18 Jul 2026 08:15:02
Fair shout, mate, yeah. He wasn't at his best last season, but more so put that down to him holding 15% back in order to not risk injury for WC.
18 Jul 2026 08:15:13
That fee won't be far away, I said £18m, that's basically 17m.
18 Jul 2026 08:21:56
Solid deal if we get add-ons and sell-on fee - could get Drago, Dahl and still have 5m in change - I know what deal I would prefer. 🇬🇧
18 Jul 2026 08:38:30
Don't buy that he was playing with the fear of injury ruling him out of the World Cup, I don't think any player would have that in their mind so much it alters the way they play. If anything, playing more cautiously is more likely to see him not get selected.
Our fans don't have overthink things, that's coming from an
overthinker too.
18 Jul 2026 08:54:40
I don't think Raskin will be our biggest sale this summer, more likely the one that gets the domino effect going.
18 Jul 2026 09:04:54
I just think for the money Celtic are getting for Engels (£25m+), we are undercutting ourselves.
I have never seen Engels and through what a player, just don't see how they get that for him yet they will.
18 Jul 2026 09:34:51
I'd be disappointed with 17m especially after the World Cup he just had. I'd be demanding at least 20m with add-ons and sell-on clause.
18 Jul 2026 09:35:10
Yet another post of Engels is this then Raskin has to be this. Raskin has done nothing to say he is a £25mil player, didn't even stand out in a piss poor Rangers team and certainly didn't wow at WC.
Celtic have proven over the seasons they get top dollar for their players, we have proven we can't, how many players have we signed that were dross and can't get rid, even the awful Celtic signings go for decent sums.
18 Jul 2026 09:42:45
Weeker, there is some merit in what you say, but the main reason we couldn't sell players was because we paid them far too high a wage and teams weren't willing to match that, and players weren't willing to move for less.
Raskin did enough at WC to be chosen as one of the 3 breakthrough players in the tournament; ahead of the lad Manzambi, who has just signed for Villa.
Yes, there is a ceiling to what clubs will be willing to pay for him, and if Rangers get close to that, surely it is good business.
18 Jul 2026 09:45:59
Apparently now 15mill plus add ons.
18 Jul 2026 09:47:25
How can Engles be worth more than Raskin?
Raskin is clearly the better player at this moment in time. As long as we keep accepting less, we'll never be able to command similar fees.
18 Jul 2026 09:51:43
I'd guess that the reason Celtic can keep getting top dollar is that they have reputedly £70m in the bank, and in that regard, don't need the money. That puts them in the comfortable position of standing firm on their valuations of their players. I'm sure the 49ers will be looking to get Rangers into the same comfortable position.
They have indicated as much. Right now, though, it's a rebuild to get back to top position and start securing the CL funds that they've been getting and widening the gap for several years now.
18 Jul 2026 09:52:53
Weeker, shouldn't it be the best player gets the higher fee? What has Engles done? Don't give me won trophies. Winning trophies doesn't make you a better footballer. West Ham just got around 80m for a cm' in a relegation team.
18 Jul 2026 09:54:33
RohlWithCheese, this is often discussed between clubs and agents so they can sound out potential moves.
A club will indicate to the player and agent what they will accept in a transfer fee and this is often done well in advance of the transfer window (and well in advance of the World Cup in this case), given his position and performance, by saying January last year that could well have been 15 plus add ons plus sell on.
18 Jul 2026 09:58:42
Did anyone stop n wonder if maybe, just maybe, when Raskin signed the new deal he inserted a buy out into it and that's why we are only getting what we are getting?
18 Jul 2026 10:09:30
If Engels is worth more than Raskin, then it's because the buying club is willing to pay more for him than what a club is willing to pay for Raskin. It's pretty simple. It doesn't really matter what we think the fee will be, what the fee is.
18 Jul 2026 10:09:39
Kennyd9, that was a January panic buy in the last day of the window, I don't see them all rushing to buy him now do you? They were paying over the odds because they were desperate. Now it's a different manager, start of a new season, and they will now have different targets.
And Celtic also got to that fee because they knocked back 17m, they knocked back 19m, they knocked back 22m, then finally they knocked back 25m. The Raskin deal hasn't been totally confirmed either, so he may go for more than what's reported.
18 Jul 2026 10:16:21
Gazza, I've given up mentioning this.
18 Jul 2026 10:17:56
I'm not saying Engels is a better player or worth more, I just pointed out that our fans are obsessed with the Engels fee. Unless we wanted to buy Engels, then I don't see the obsession for what they want to sell a player they have.
It was a similar scenario with Dembele, if he can get this price then Alfie must be worth this and again we all know how that went for us.
18 Jul 2026 10:30:19
Gazza, did Raskin sign another contract?
18 Jul 2026 10:40:22
That is fine, Weeker, I do get your meaning.
18 Jul 2026 11:12:03
If we constantly under sell, we will always be under offered. This is why we get low fees and Celtic get high offers; they are willing to just say no.
18 Jul 2026 11:30:21
Probably worth noting that Engels iz also only 22, so more time for growth and sell on.
18 Jul 2026 11:47:07
Can't see our owners excepting that, to be fair, a team could offer 5m for him. Does not mean that's what he's worth. 20 million quid plus add ons or don't even answer the phone.
18 Jul 2026 12:25:59
Same as Tielemans having a low clause, I've a feeling Raskin's release clause is around 14-15 million. Obviously up to the player after that.
18 Jul 2026 12:38:10
We might miss out on. A good fee for one, but the bar will be set, and clubs risk losing out to other clubs if don't meet value, so maybe make them think twice.
18 Jul 2026 12:38:41
Engles also only has 2 years on deal just like Raskin.
18 Jul 2026 13:30:41
Also, nobody has paid 20 or 25m for Engels. Fair chance he stays this season, and they sell him for 15m next summer if he has an average season and takes the huff again.
Anyway, from looking at ours and their squads and transfer business, I'm feeling positive.
18 Jul 2026 14:45:10
Remember, the Tims always have every add on, wages, agent fees, etc, etc included in the stated fee.
18 Jul 2026 15:46:50
Still a good fee, been very average for us.
18 Jul 2026 17:17:49
We need to get this for an SPL player out of our heads. He's a Belgian international who went on a decent run at the World Cup, and players of same level around him are going for far more.
Same people talking it down are the same folk that would happily see us spend 5m on Maswanhise, or just when they were low value recently, so why does their same logic not apply to them?
Maswanhise did nowt with Well last year.
And just was an unknown.
Current form and profile matters, and Raskin played well at the World Cup and raised his profile, simple as that.
18 Jul 2026 18:27:35
Very good post Forever.
18 Jul 2026 18:29:47
So if we only get one bid for him and it's £15m, are people rejecting it and keeping him for next season then?
18 Jul 2026 18:42:33
Celtic done it with Hooper mind all add ons wages.
18 Jul 2026 21:55:49
Sounds like there are multiple bigger clubs interested and no deal yet agreed, so price could be going up if multiple offers. Let's see what happens.
18 Jul 2026 22:00:53
Come on now, Raskin did not play well at WC, he was bang average at best.
18 Jul 2026 22:50:26
🤣🤣 Weeker, thanks for making me laff.
19 Jul 2026 00:02:53
Again, to repeat posts I've made in transfer windows.
If other clubs know we always fold or cave to lower offers, or we cough up higher fees when paying.
We will always get ripped off in the market.
Naderi an example, yes he's a decent signing by look of it, but we could have had him cheaper if we were patient, and ultimately what did we win coughing up extra for his transfer to get him early? Well reported they would have accepted less if he was to remain there for their title push.
19 Jul 2026 00:53:03
Raskin has been average at best all season. Grab the cash and make a decent profit. I wish him all the best wherever he ends up.
19 Jul 2026 10:40:45
Raskin stood out in big game vs Spurs, set up two goals in World Cup, and had more recoveries than other players in later rounds. Stats matter to recruiters. Also, do people not remember how disastrous our midfield looked when Martin dropped Raskin out.
And 50, 000 fans were chanting his name.
