As mentioned here a week or so back, confirmation from
Chris Jack that Ross McCrorie is close to rejoining the club.
Sensible signing.
23 Jun 2026 22:42:10
What's story mentioned several months ago?
23 Jun 2026 22:45:22
Jesus. Underwhelming, squad player.
23 Jun 2026 22:51:36
Makes complete sense to me. No complaints, can play a few positions. Would like us to go and sign someone with a bit more quality.
23 Jun 2026 22:53:16
Very sensible signing. Has actually been very, very good in a much, much better league, and knows the club and our league. Never injured, can play a few positions comfortably also.
23 Jun 2026 23:02:55
Solid signing. Broste, you wanting us to go for Hakimi?
Versatile player, "gets it", has improved since leaving us and is a warrior.
23 Jun 2026 23:05:53
Ryan, the lad McCrorie has had a number of injuries, including 3 months out with a knee injury, 6 months out for pelvic surgery.
23 Jun 2026 23:07:22
Agreed, Ryan, and the Brucey bonus he qualifies as club trained, so is essentially an extra body for the European squad.
23 Jun 2026 23:07:48
Just want a first pick that'll make a difference. We've got a league to win.
23 Jun 2026 23:17:57
Has more lucrative offers, so if he does opt for us, it speaks volumes.
23 Jun 2026 23:21:38
Apologies, John. I genuinely didn't know that. Had a look, and it didn't seem to be niggling injuries where he has 2 or 3 games them out for 2 or 3.
23 Jun 2026 23:33:02
Broste, we will buy first team starters. It's just easier to get the squad/foundations built before going and getting the bigger players in.
23 Jun 2026 23:34:50
I swear to God, if McCrorie is real, then we have fallen sooo far, it's done!
Bad enough McInnes, the sacked Aberdeen manager, but this!???
I don't believe it. Which will mean it's true.
Wow! New standards I didn't think we would ever reach.
Just sign Mayo back too or Dykes and be done with it.
There is NOTHING sensible about McRorie. Literally nothing.
24 Jun 2026 00:02:38
Dog, if you feel that strongly, don't go back!
24 Jun 2026 00:17:39
Time will tell re first team starters, but still don't see McCrorie as a positive signing - 28 so should be at his peak and imo still not good enough. Would we want Ralston? No, and yet he's in Scotland squad before him. If he's not a starter, then go for someone younger we can develop to become one.
24 Jun 2026 00:21:48
Came on leaps and bounds at Bristol, wouldn't knock him.
24 Jun 2026 00:27:16
McCrorie wasn't good enough before when he was here but "knows the club & the league". He wasn't great at Aberdeen either. Ralston & a unfit/injured Hickey got picked ahead of him for Scotland's World Cup squad & he's from everyone's dreaded league, the "English Championship". I don't have a problem with that league btw but cause he's Scottish so it's fine now.
These kind of signings won't take us forward & is a McInnes influenced signing, as he had him at Aberdeen. Could be wrong, but wasn't McCrorie linked with Hearts last summer? We need 2 starters for every position so there's on drop off when one is injured or we can rotate, that has been our problem for years.
If we are simply looking for squad players, I'd rather give it to a youth player & give them a chance.
Blue, I don't want Hakimi (pretty sure a lot won't touch him nkw), but I want us to cast our net further than Scottish as it just seems like that's the only criteria that matters & look at leagues beyond the English Championship for a change, there's other leagues & nations that we never go near or even look at.
24 Jun 2026 00:34:39
Smart signing for me. Gdog and Broste are being harsh on the lad.
Not every player needs to be a starter week in week out or a development player. Ross has come through our academy, can help the young lads, very hard worker in training and on the pitch and almost every coach he's worked under has praised his standards and how vocal he is.
Again not a sexy signing but a smart one.
24 Jun 2026 00:40:26
Ehl, what are you alluding to here?
For those mentioning Ralston. For whatever reason, Clarke actually rates him and has a habit of picking his squads on loyalty rather than ability.
McCrorie is a solid option, has been a top performer for Bristol and is club-trained for the European squad, so is basically an extra spot in the squad for cover.
Finally, I wouldn't want Hakimi anywhere near this club, good player or not. It's absolutely disgusting that he's been allowed to play in the World Cup, and I very much doubt him or Partey will have jobs much longer.
Underwhelming squad player, get a grip, boy. Can play right back, cb, dm, and is more experienced since he left. And after all that he's also a club trained player for our European quota. Sirry but have to go the mystar route here and brand that comment clueless. He's a cracking squad option.
24 Jun 2026 01:37:50
We tried McCrorie at CDM and he was crap. Tavernier was a much better RB than him. There is always going to be better CBs, bigger and better than McCrorie. He excels at nothing. We gave him to Aberdeen as part of a swap deal for Scott Wright and though we had won a watch.
The only way this makes sense is if he's a squad player. He can cover a few positions and help with the European squads. He's not got the ability required to be a starter in a league winning team.
24 Jun 2026 02:38:39
Just so you're aware, fans didn't want Claudio Braga, the league's Player of the Year, and didn't want Cammy Devlin on a free because they aren't "good enough" for Rangers, yet they want Ross McCrorie?
Wow. Just wow.
24 Jun 2026 06:18:37
Clarke has his favs.
24 Jun 2026 06:33:37
Every player we sign will not be a first team starter. We need to build a squad. If we have a squad of 26, and they were all classed as first team starters, we would have a lot of unhappy players at our club.
It is not, as stated, a McInnes-led signing. He was mentioned on here as being a target way before McInnes became our manager.
24 Jun 2026 06:44:04
Steve Clark threw on Dykes instead of Shankland when chasing a goal. That, to me, renders his opinion of Ralston being better than McCrorie irrelevant.
24 Jun 2026 07:01:49
Goram, that if he opts to sign for us, it's because he has a desire and drive to play for us and not because we're offering the most money.
24 Jun 2026 07:03:28
Ross McCrorie has come on leaps and bounds since he left us, to the point, Crystal Palace and another Premiership club were giving him some serious consideration. He may not be everyone's cup of tea, but he can fill in multiple positions, do a job, and become a very handy squad option for us.
Sensible signing. We need to improve our whole squad, not just our starting eleven.
24 Jun 2026 07:04:43
1st of all, the boy's got ability.
Second knows who we are and what we are about.
3rd - has the proper mindset n would run through walls for us, unlike other of our so called top signings.
Alwaz will be guys never happy.
Or spouting not Rangers quality.
What is Rangers quality cause for seasons I've bearly seen any.
We bloody came 3rd.
Give the boy a chance if he signs.
He gets it.
Least he knows what our jerseys about.
N also knows second n 3rd just ain't good enough.
We need a core, a spine, a backbone.
McCrorie helps with all this.
24 Jun 2026 07:22:24
The new number 2. Wouldn't be surprised to see his brother back as the number 3 in the GK department.
24 Jun 2026 07:35:08
What are some of you expecting every player to be a 10m signing? We need to build a Squad. He is a solid squad option, can play across the back line, has captained teams, and is a solid, honest pro. We can do a lot worse than signing a few signings like this to be back up.
I know who I'd rather have as my back up right back out of McCrorie and a Max Aarons or a Jason Meghoma.
You listen to every single successful ex Rangers player, and every one of them says the same thing, whether that be Derek Johnston, Albertz, Laudrup, Barry, Durrranty, all of them say we need a Scottish core and a group of lads that understand the club to pass on to the foreign lads.
24 Jun 2026 07:36:34
Did not know Ross McCrorie would generate so much interest and split opinion so much - I can see why - on one hand he will put his body on the line and always gives 100% and can play multiple positions and is strong and committed, but on the other hand he is not technically the best player and it's hard knowing his best position.
I'll go for he will be good for our squad and will bring some dig and commitment which we have been lacking, and the fact he can play multiple positions is a real bonus. ??
24 Jun 2026 07:56:03
Don't get the issue with McCrorie, ticks all boxes. I doubt he's being signed as a 1st team starter, but for me he's an excellent squad player, a Scottish version of Sterling but more available for games.
24 Jun 2026 07:57:19
One of the best RBs in the Championship fgs some folk. ?
24 Jun 2026 08:40:29
Should be a safe signing then Rohl as we haven't been a league winning side since March 7, 2021.
24 Jun 2026 08:50:44
I've watched so many foreigners come in the door and have no impact so I welcome hard working, committed Scottish players. Ones who are negative about signing a Scottish player would get excited about an unknown £6m player that would probably be a flop. We need a strong core of Scottish players first and foremost, then build talent around that. The Walter way.
24 Jun 2026 08:53:18
A good squad player that counts as club grown for Europe. I think it makes sense on that basis, and on the understanding it's reasonable from a financial basis.
Think the kid suffered from not having a clear position when he came through at us.
Was never clear if he was going to be a CB, RB, DM etc. But even then he was talked about as a possible future captain. If he's a RB, he probably suffers from the fact most full backs these days are offensive rather than defensive. Hope it works out for us and him.
24 Jun 2026 09:09:10
An upgrade on Max Aarons, good squad player who's a very good professional.
24 Jun 2026 09:14:04
Well said, Bluey.
24 Jun 2026 09:17:38
Crystal Palace were in for the boy for 15m a year or 2 ago and got someone else instead, but folk on here who haven't watched him in 7 years know best eh.
24 Jun 2026 09:54:37
72Loyal, correct, them saying not good enough, I can only wonder the last time they saw him kick a ball, one of the better fullbacks in a better league, why would EPL clubs even be interested in him if he was the same player he was when he played for Rangers years ago, clearly vastly improved his game, still believe if he does sign another rb will be signed alongside him.
24 Jun 2026 10:00:17
I've watched him 3/4 times, Mystar, and he's always been solid for Bristol City, sure he even captained them a few times. He's a far better player than people give him credit for.
24 Jun 2026 10:04:16
Ehl he has the desire, welcome back, and well done Jack boy.
Also well done Danny boy.
24 Jun 2026 10:08:52
That's all you think about - Max Aarons.
A better signing in every single way than him.
He will be a rotation option and plug gaps.
2 right backs need signed.
24 Jun 2026 10:11:44
MyStar, my thoughts exactly. Is he an exciting signing? No. But he was in the top 10% for goals and assists from fullback.
Can play on the right and the left, CB and CM as well. A player like McCrorie allows us to spend more on say a Ferguson (shut up, Ryan, before you say it's no happening ?) or a more expensive wing option whilst allowing someone like Scally to come into the squad to cover LB behind him and Rommens.
I'd still expect a RB to come in as a starter but McCrorie is a smart signing and will demand standards in training like McInnes, Shankland and others will.
24 Jun 2026 10:31:55
Agreed, Wishy, anytime I've watched the Championship highlights, he stood out, see him a couple of times against Sunderland as well, mate, vastly improved player since his time with us.
Ayrshire, he would be a good signing, still believe another rb signed after Sterling is sold.
McCrorie is a very handy player for having in our squad.
24 Jun 2026 10:54:48
We're not spending good cash on McCrorie to be 2nd choice rb surely. Don't quite get it that being the case, but that was my fear with McInnes getting the job.
Say again, if dr was opting for likes of McCrorie, I'm sure a few on here would throw their arm up, but because it's McInnes he can do no wrong.
24 Jun 2026 11:07:27
Broste, we need two players fighting for every position. McCrorie will know that coming back he'll need to fight for holding the jersey down.
24 Jun 2026 11:09:25
Penrice would be a similar fee, Broste, is he starting over Rommens? Nope, but he'll challenge him for the first 11.
24 Jun 2026 11:11:53
My post should refer to Union Jack not jackboy.
Broster, absolute nonsense. Can you tell me how u would make up Rangers eoro squad with 4 who have come through our academy?
It was Dr who kicked it all off, not McInness.
24 Jun 2026 11:27:28
Ok, so I don't know inner working of the club, and if it was Dr who initiated the interest, then fair enough. I still don't think it's a good signing regardless, and knowing the club / jersey / make up euro numbers is not a good enough reason in my book.
I'll go back to he's an average squad player for me, so I'm not getting the appeal. Someone younger with potential to develop with the required background.
24 Jun 2026 11:38:43
Broste, you are entitled to an opinion, bud, but I hope if the season goes well you'd be willing to hold your hands up and say, got it wrong.
At the end of the day, Derek McInnes and McCrorie aren't exciting signings, but they are exactly what people have been saying has been missing. They aren't looking at Ranger.
24 Jun 2026 11:40:56
Never meant to send that there, but was saying they aren't seeing us as a stepping stone or a big payday, they want to be here and will show more desire and work ethic than last season.
A single player doesn't make a squad, so we need to supplement the quality of players like Chermiti, Naderi, Aasgaard (He is technically good, just not a worker) or Gassama who can beat a man but inconsistent with guys who will be 7/10 every time they wear that top and give their all to the cause.
24 Jun 2026 11:50:14
Agreed with Murph here, not an exciting appointment, but with him being club trained and counting towards euro squad, and his versatility makes him a sensible signing. Also adds some height for set pieces and leadership qualities as he has captained Scotland U21s, Aberdeen and our youth teams.
24 Jun 2026 11:50:50
Just in case nobody realises we don't have a starting RB as Tav has left, & I'm sorry Sterling is nowhere near as good as some think. He has, or had, pace & that's all he had, which is why he's always injured cause he relies on it to make up for him making mistakes. So he's being brought in to be a starter, not a squad player.
Don't think he's good enough. Doesn't matter if he's one of best RB in the Championship cause he can be that at Bristol City who finished 12th.
Rothwell got promoted with & was one of better players in the Championship. If Crystal Palace & these other clubs were interested then why are they not now? If they are still interested then we don't have a chance since there's clubs that can outspend us in transfer fees & wages.
24 Jun 2026 12:17:55
Djb, simple, they can afford better. Or more extravagant signings on paper.
24 Jun 2026 12:23:10
Broste, I think you will find many on here said they would take Mcrorrie when Dr was still the manager.
DJB, there is no way we won't sign 2 RBs, not with Sterling 1.injury record and 2.supoosed links away.
I would say be patient and see what the club do, but I know that's not our strong suit on here, and in the wider support, and I include myself in that bracket. ?
24 Jun 2026 13:05:46
RR said this morning that McCrorie had played 89 games in 3 seasons, that is just about 30 games a season. Does that mean he has had injuries, because he will be needed to play more like 50 a season if he signs for us.
24 Jun 2026 13:17:39
Ayrshire & Co. I will absolutely hold my hand up and say I got it wrong and I really hope that's the case.
Nothing wrong with a difference of opinion, healthy debate etc.
If any mention of next signing target being Mayo / Ryan Jack / Shinnie, though, I might have to take shelter.
24 Jun 2026 13:32:43
This forum would have been some buzz back in Walters' day. Sure, most of his signings would get the same heat as McCrorie is, and they're now almost, to a man, club legends.
