Who was it that suggested we should look at Motherwells Elliot watt?

I answered and told them I'd also been very impressed with him recently and the few times I e seen him he's looked a cracker.

Apparently that's us considering a bid for him. Danny Rohl has been very impressed with him.

01 Jan 2026 23:54:54
Ive not watched him what so ever but waht I always do these days is see how many games they can play year in a year out and he passes that's one for me. 40-50 games for 4 years tells me he is robust enough for the job in hand. As for the rest Stevie, if you think he's a player then why not.

01 Jan 2026 23:55:24
He couldn't get a game at Burton just a year ago.

01 Jan 2026 23:55:35
I have not seen him much but who's position would be taken in the squad as I am not sure he improves the starting 11.

02 Jan 2026 05:14:14
GC can't be bothered with that kinda chat mate, happens everything.
Aphelion if Rohl is interested in him he must clearly think he would improve the squad, I haven't seen much of him but he did show up against us a couple of games ago mate.

02 Jan 2026 06:14:10
Happens everywhere even.

02 Jan 2026 07:32:14
Aye Mystar, imagine giving background or opinion on a player. Shocking behaviour. GC he actually played in the majority of games for Burton before loaning him to St Johnstone last year. He's played the majority of his career in lower ends of English football which most fans are saying to avoid.

Not sure I'd judge him on a good 6 months in Scotland. Maybe one to keep an eye on longer term?

02 Jan 2026 07:56:14
Keep an eye on longer term and risk on losing out on him. We need to be taking chances on these sort of players. He'll cost pennies in wages compared to some of the rubbish we've spent money on in the last few years.

02 Jan 2026 08:16:24
so we are after 2 defenders, a mF and a CF in this window according to same source (the Sun?). so if Elliot is that MF we will buy then Dahl isn't happening and the often spoken about CDM isn't either.

02 Jan 2026 08:38:02
Well said Kaiser.

Not a player I know a great deal of Stevie, but like most Motherwell players, he's getting a lot of praise this season.

02 Jan 2026 09:10:14
Angus from what I've read Watt has been a CDM most of his career. Again, don't know enough about him to give an opinion but just what I've read.

02 Jan 2026 09:35:10
Kaiser I know he was and he also played at age level Scotland teams despite being born down south. However he doesn't tick the box of the reported CDM who is experienced and we would be pleased with.

I think he is showing decent form and wonder if we will be keeping an eye on him to see if he maintains that form over a longer period than 6 months or improves even.

Whether he is better than Raskin or Barron is an opinion and I don't think he is levels above which is what we would be looking for unless we are replacing one of them. But main point is at 25 and with his past clubs he isn't that experienced, exciting signing at CDM which this rumours page suggested a while back.

02 Jan 2026 09:43:01
Player who seemed to rip Celtic a new one the other day was 'Just'?
The couldn't cope with him. anyone know anything about him?

02 Jan 2026 10:05:39
Certainly is a DM, As for the couldn't get a game for Burton he was captain and had 30 appearances before he left on loan. Burton hired a new head coach who brought in a bunch of midfielders that saw him out of the team during January.

02 Jan 2026 10:06:05
Half a good season and people think we should buy him. If he was still on the bench at Burton would the same people still want him. He's not the standard we require.

02 Jan 2026 10:06:50
Spot on Kaiser.

Star folk are allowed opinions on players and I'm sure you'll back this lad to reach the pinnacle of the game as you've done with so many Rangers flops. He has played league1/2 almost all his career and granted Motherwell are playing some nice stuff and he has played his part, BUT and I stress this they are still below us in the league despite all their praise.

Should definitely be looking at keeping an eye on him and if he can consistently put in good performances then why not but definitely not off half a season.

02 Jan 2026 10:21:00
Elliot watt is a great CDM and is a great pivate player for Motherwell he can find the gaps and play players into space.

Other Motherwell players i would look at are Tawanda Maswanhise, Ibrahim Said, Elijah Just.

I would also look to try and get Lennon Miller back to Scotland as he is not enjoying his time in italy and not getting game time.

02 Jan 2026 10:28:15
Get it Angus, thought u meant he was just a MF and we weren't getting a CDM. ?.

02 Jan 2026 10:31:02
Personally it's the more creative attacking players I'd like to see rather then a CDM as we have players who can do that.

02 Jan 2026 10:35:03
First I heard Watt mentioned was Blair on Rangers Review raving about his performances. Lot of good players in our league just now mainly at Hearts and Motherwell. Got to stop missing out on good players like Ferguson, Shankland etc.

02 Jan 2026 10:36:25
Ibroxstorm I had been told he is homesick. He may come back to the uk in this window on loan.

02 Jan 2026 10:44:09
Out of all the Motherwell players, he's not the one I'd be looking at. Elijah Just, Maswanhise and maybe Said are the ones that have caught my eye and even then I'd be waiting to see if they maintain form til the end of the season because we don't need to scrape together money for players anymore.

We don't made a ball winning midfielder unless Barron or Raskin leave, we need someone who yes can win the ball back but can control the game there and pass all over the place.

02 Jan 2026 11:07:35
Again these players always seem to look better in open games or hitting on the break but its a totally different game when your the team on top most weeks having to break down a team with 9 or ten men in their own half or camped on own 18 yard.

02 Jan 2026 11:08:27
Personally from what I seen of Ibrahim Said at Viborg he is not that good.
Relatively good half season at Motherwell does not alter my opinion.

02 Jan 2026 11:41:53
I'd take watt if low fee.

02 Jan 2026 11:48:54
ive saw the boy watt play twice. once last week against us and straight away i was like whos this boy he's like busquets on the ball makes the game look easy, and saw him last 15 mins of first and second half against Celtic because our game was on same night.

albeit I've not saw much of the guy but the limited time I've saw him play I've been blown away by how good the boy looks!

02 Jan 2026 12:29:46
Bigbluejim, but see the difference between me and you, I support any player that wears that jersey, any player can have a bad spell at any club, especially a loan club, gets tired some now Jim.

02 Jan 2026 12:33:00
I don't know about busquets right enough but I like the look of him, he looks like he can fill one of the cm squad positions for me with ease yeah.

Back up for Barron perhaps if Raskin is to move on.

Dahl will be box to box 8 on left hand if 3 man mf as we're also looking at the 6 coming brohinen or however ye say it. This lad could back him up even.

I see us bringing in talent for the 11 from outwith the league and filling the squad spaces with talent from within the league.

Pretty good way to work it for me.

02 Jan 2026 12:41:06
StevieGnew I think that is a great way to work and as I said on another post I certainly would not say no to these guys filling the squad.

I do hope that the Bohinen rumours are false however.

02 Jan 2026 13:17:21
Kaiser I think we have that creativity out wide and perhaps Moore and Aasgaard in the number 10 but they aren't always performing so I know what you mean.
What I think we miss is that guy who breaks up play easily and recycles the ball all the time.

sort of what McGregor does (or did) regularly at Celtic. we haven't had that since Steve Davis I don't think. So a playmaker rather than a defensive midfielder being the main element of his ability.

02 Jan 2026 13:26:35
I haven't seen much of Watt but he was with St Johnstone last season and wasn't that impressive. If the manager rates him then fair enough but I would always be wary of signing any player on the back of a 6 month purple patch in their career, I must say I like the look of the boy Just at Motherwell but I'm not being a hypocrite and saying we should sign him.

02 Jan 2026 13:31:05
Aphe yes it makes a lot of sense to me too mate. What it can help with too is to settle the influx of foreigners into the squad quicker if we're signing players who have lived and worked here for a few years or even all their life.

The squad harmony would be so much better and then of course these guys aren't just going to fill the numbers they're going to challenge for the shirt.

I'd make a double bid to Motherwell of £3m for malwanhise and Elliot ward. That's not to be sniffed at for them.

02 Jan 2026 14:02:33
wsl that is the risk. I have read a bit in EHL's posts about how Tony Bloom follows the stats for a couple of seasons to make sure it isn't a brief period of form (apologies EHL if I have got that wrong).

it is successful for them so surely it makes sense to do the same. we might not have the IT ability but surely in Scotland we can watch them for the rest of season and go on a season's stats at least.

02 Jan 2026 14:33:08
When you are getting loaned to championship st Johnstone from burton it says it all. Is he really good enough for Rangers let's be serious here.

02 Jan 2026 14:47:00
Aphe, I'm beginning to think you might be a football agent for Scandinavian players.

02 Jan 2026 19:04:27
And what would give that idea topper?

Many said I should be a scout but I feel I lack the analytical abilities to do that job.

02 Jan 2026 19:09:39
Said definitely worth considering did really well in Denmark too.
