Just a post to see if any of other posters on here read what barry Ferguson said about dan neil about a week or two ago, in his DR column 🤔
He stated he knew dan neil was a really good talented midfielder who could control the tempo of a game like he used to do himself and was more than capable of being our new no.6 playmaker 👌Baz was honest and also stated although neil hadn't shown his true form yet and was still settling into life at Rangers and Scottish football in general, he would come good and show his ability going forward and would be a very good signing for Rangers given time 🤔🇬🇧

Sws, Dan Neil is a very good footballer, seen it dozens and dozens of times, wait until you see him at his best, mate.

07 Sep 2026 15:44:55
Up until Saturday, he has been rank rotten for Rangers.
What he has done at previous clubs is irrelevant.
I'll judge him in what he achieves at Rangers.
He now needs to play consistently well to prove me wrong.

07 Sep 2026 15:57:32
Hopefully he will show us all what he can do on a regular basis. It will help everyone if we see a settled team with a good few regular starters.
As Walter often said, consistency in selection brings consistency in performance.
I think DM is beginning to identify a core group he can trust.

Barry knows his stuff and definitely knows a good midfielder that will do for me.

07 Sep 2026 16:13:14
MrPotato Head, you say what he has done at other clubs is irrelevant and I completely agree with you. However, most Rangers fans do not. You see, they judge Raskin on his Belgium performances and assume it means he's been a great player for us, which he absolutely has not.

That aside, I thought Neil was excellent at the weekend. I have huge hopes he and Drago can be a midfield pair.

07 Sep 2026 16:19:53
Neil hasn't even played 500 minutes, fans are judging players far too quickly, won't be long before he's showing his capabilities constantly, players do take time to settle, or the most important part is understanding how their teammates operate.

07 Sep 2026 16:45:41
Walter, there are two rags I would not wipe myself with.

07 Sep 2026 16:04:13
Niel's still never played 500 minutes for Rangers, Mph, don't you think you're judging players far too quickly? you probably hope he does nothing so you're correct, plenty of these types of fans, not saying you definitely are but just a feeling i have, but that will never happen anyway as the lad can play, try supporting.
He wasn't rank rotten against Aberdeen either.

07 Sep 2026 17:24:05
I don't think he's been rank rotten, but I respect your opinion, Mr P. I don't think he's been great either. He was just pretty ineffective. I hope he's really finding his feet and will go from strength to strength. I know, from speaking with a family member of his, he had better offers on the table, but he really felt he could make Ibrox his home.

He loved the feel of the place and was happy to concede some money to play his football here.

I really hope it works for him because he has the ability to be a great player for us.

07 Sep 2026 17:25:09
Mystar, that's some comment to make, that a Rangers wants a player to do bad so an opinion they had was correct. I don't know anyone like that, that thinks that way, they're certainly not Rangers fans if they do. Can honestly see how buzzing tattie gets on match days. Don't think he thinks like that whatsoever, mate.

I think what he's saying is true, apart from last 2 games where I thought he was excellent, he's not been very good in the other games. Also believe that what players do at other clubs is irrelevant. Personally feel we have a player there though, very good one at that.

07 Sep 2026 17:31:11
100% totally agree, Boyblue.

07 Sep 2026 17:35:45
Boy blue, you'd be surprised with some, as said, I'm definitely not saying Mph is one.

07 Sep 2026 17:38:36
When we sign a player I always look at where he played before. I think it's important and can give an indicator on potential. So, in terms of DN, we can see he is capable of playing a large volume of games, he has good leadership, and can play in front of large, demanding crowds in a competitive league.

What he's done in the past is surely the reason our scouts looked at him. I agree it's not guaranteed he will succeed, but his past should be a relatively good indicator that he should be ok once settled.

07 Sep 2026 17:39:45
Boy Blue, he still hasn't played 500 minutes for Rangers.

07 Sep 2026 18:01:18
Raskin only got to play for Belgium after moving and performing well for Rangers, GladgowGooner.
The other side of that is he's probably only still getting selected for Belgium with his performances for them and not how he's currently playing at Rangers.

07 Sep 2026 18:03:57
He hasn't played 500 minutes for Rangers because he wasn't deemed good enough by the manager and underperformed in the first 9 games, MyStar.
You yourself never chose him as a starter in your 11 for Aberdeen. That is criticism enough without my input.

07 Sep 2026 18:05:29
Stop talking nonsense that I want Neil to fail, MyStar.
I praised his performance at the weekend.

07 Sep 2026 18:12:19
Cool Mph, still judging players far too quickly.

07 Sep 2026 18:21:28
He has definitely underperformed, but so has the full team in the games he's been poor, so people were far too quick and harsh to judge him. Let's see him and Raskin in a settled pair with Vanja providing some real competition, and I think we will see a proper midfielder.

However, the proof will be in the pudding with these back-to-back Old Firms. Many players shrink. Let's see if he can rise to it.

07 Sep 2026 18:44:52
Neil hasn't played well and has deserved some of the criticism, but what I don't agree with is writing him off this early in his Rangers career and, worse, the insults thrown at him making comparisons with Rothwell, just because they are both English and play in the same position.

If he does fail it will be down to Dan Neil himself, nothing to do with Rothwell's abject failure here.
It was great to see him play like he can on Saturday.

07 Sep 2026 19:05:36
Wsl, what he has produced to date merits comparisons. Him being called English by me is, be at that, is factual correct.

To turn it into a country thing by u is insulting and disrespectful. All my children, grandchildren are English, two have represented their country of birth.

07 Sep 2026 21:36:43
Neil has been poor and the majority of his performances have been below par. That's why, as vice-captain, he's been dropped consistently and been hooked at half-time on multiple occasions.

Like DM and all our other new signings, he deserves time and performances like Aberdeen away and Motherwell buy him time.

But, whilst he's underperforming, he's open to constructive criticism, and, given that he's played most of his career in the Championship, it's understandable that his poor performances give us the fear of him being another Rothwell, Dowell or any other number of similar players we've signed.

07 Sep 2026 21:47:47
MPH, I don't think Neil has anything to prove to you. 😂
