You know my opinion on the manager and talk is cheap, but he didn't absolve himself of any of the blame in the interview.
"I like to think I know what I'm doing as a manager, I'm a good manager, I back myself but at the minute, none of us are doing our job well enough, " McInnes told Sky Sports.
"The players need a wee bit of help and support at the minute.
"We're a long way away from the Rangers team that I want us to be and the Rangers team that I intend us to be. The players are working extremely hard.
"There's a lot of uncertainty at the minute. Once the window closes, everything becomes a bit calmer."
"I don't expect us to be perfect at this stage. It's not been the start we wanted, I'm not the first Rangers manager to get off to a tough start but we are determined to follow this job through and it's the end that counts and I still believe we're going to be a success here."
The bigger question is - have we, the fans, got the patience to see this through?
The two most powerful warriors are patience and time.🔴⚪️🔵

It's in the blood, potato. I stand by McKinnes and The Rangers.
29 Aug 2026 09:20:02
I honestly think we have to give McInnes time, we're out of Europe now, which means that Del and co will have more time with the players on the training pitch, longer time to implement what he wants, and recovery time, which will be a massive factor for us.
We need to massively improve our league form, now with us being out of Europe all together, there can be no excuses. My opinion, of course, so go easy, fellow bears. 😊
29 Aug 2026 09:27:18
20 something percent win rate is awful, but more so than that is how Jimmy White we have looked, we have good players but cannot even create chances in many games, both euro and domestic so far.
So he has to find something quick and get it clicking, got back to what he knows and once results turn in his favour he can try something different.
29 Aug 2026 09:31:53
We have to, mate, or we start from an impossible situation again next season.
We have to accept that we're just not very good. Once we accept that, we can see what we can do to get better. Until the fans acknowledge that this season, and probably next, are not Championship winning seasons, we will not move forward.
I say this from a position of previous stating second is completely unacceptable, so I'm not the type of guy to lay down and surrender. Bottom line, until we change our mindset and accept there's an issue, we can't fix it.
29 Aug 2026 09:38:37
McInnes has to stay. The club needs stability. EHL and others of course have alluded to the fact. When you look at what he said regarding players signed by multiple managers and multiple DOFs etc, there's no chance we can be a cohesive team when it's a random mix of guys signed and a lot of them know they aren't wanted by the club, management and fans.
That being said, guys on 10-20k a week should be giving their all week in week out, but we know footballers don't work that way. Well, not all of them. We need the window to close and just hope we start winning and build from it.
29 Aug 2026 09:55:15
"Missing big Youseff," I don't really buy into and he should ban Shankland from doing interviews.
29 Aug 2026 10:06:20
MPH, if you don't mind me asking, mate, who would you want as Rangers manager. 🤔
29 Aug 2026 10:20:36
People have endlessly mentioned a lack of appetite, but as a McInnes fan, it's the apparent lack of tactical coaching which is concerning me big time. Perhaps this is actually helping perpetuate the perception about a lack of appetite because players don't know what they're supposed to be doing, or they are doing it, but the plan is leaving them extremely exposed even against very mediocre opposition.
29 Aug 2026 10:51:11
Pretty much every team McInnes has ever been at, and the Hearts side last season that was coached by pretty much the same set of coaches, have been praised for the organisation, discipline and tactical application.
The biggest question mark over McInnes has always been the perceived negativity of his tactics - never around his ability to set his teams up effectively.
I certainly don't see a team that's not coached, or a team that's unfit.
I see a manager who's constantly having to adjust systems and personnel due to lack of application.
29 Aug 2026 11:22:36
I wanted Rohl to get another year, SWS.
Obviously he chose to move on.
I would also have asked the question of Knutsen.
Or any other up and coming manager punching above their weight with teams that are in the CL or EL.
But right now, for all my doubts, we need to give McInnes and the players the backing when they are on the pitch.
29 Aug 2026 11:28:30
It is disheartening, EHL, if you feel a lack of application is harming the team performances so much at this time.
Whilst I don't expect all players at this club to bleed red, white and blue, I do expect to see a 100% effort shown in the game. Personal pride may not mean as much to some players as the almighty dollar, but you would think if Rangers are viewed as a club which can lead a player to 'the big 5 leagues', then surely you go out every week to prove it.
It's one of the reasons I really hope Raskin gets his dream move (and we get the right money), because I believe, for his other faults, he has shown that playing for us can bring international rewards (as his Belgian career has come with him at Ibrox), and I trust a move he wants.
That should be enough to show others here that perseverance, application, effort and attitude will be rewarded through playing for us.
I may be well off the mark, but I doubt 11 Raskins would have limped out of Europe so dramatically.
I just hope that whatever transpires over the week till the window shuts, the players at the club give their all. After all, it is not buttons they are playing for, but substantial financial reward, adoration of fans, titles, medals, and an ability to prove they can be the best.
29 Aug 2026 11:40:00
MPH, Knutsen wouldn't last 2 minutes at Rangers just now. If Derek can't get us playing as a hard to beat unit this fast, how can you expect Knutsen to implement his very distinct brand of football. Had we started similarly with him, he'd have the same level of criticism as anyone else. "Only managed Bodo", "can't handle the pressure of Rangers", "doesn't know the league", "doesn't know the sash".
Let's be honest here, the main issue isn't the managers at Rangers. The issues run deeper. Did u want McInnes? No. Am I happy with what I'm seeing? F no! Should we sack now and get some other random name in? Absolutely not. We need to give this time. For the future of our great club we must. If it doesn't work in 12-18 months time then a decision will be made. But at least the squad will be settled by then.
29 Aug 2026 11:46:54
Derek McInnes, imo, also gets a full season at this minimum. 🤔 Once this transfer window closes I'm hoping everything settles down and stabilises and McInnes can find his best 11 and favoured system, of course, with flexibility within. 🤔 So let's get behind Del and our club and see what the season unfolds like, all is not lost. 👍 🇬🇧
29 Aug 2026 11:55:49
Patience and time is required, then wanting instant success is the reason we win nothing, blind not seeing it.
29 Aug 2026 12:00:22
That's a poor reason, Mols.
2 Motherwell managers have hit the ground running in successive seasons.
McInnes' replacement at Hearts just got a great away result in Austria.
So why is it only Rangers managers that need this time?
And why do only Rangers signings need time to bed in?
29 Aug 2026 12:18:27
Because if your opinion doesn't align with others, MPH, then you're always wrong, n they're always right.
29 Aug 2026 12:21:36
Because the pressure on every single player and manager at Rangers is immense. You can see the fear in the players that stops them making forward passes because they are s*** scared to make a mistake. You comparing the pressure of Motherwell to Rangers? Also, if you give a brand new manager 15 new players every season, then sack him 6 months later and rinse and repeat, how can you expect that to work? The Motherwell manager had the time and the luxury of no pressure to build a platform.
If Motherwell had finished 9th last year, you think he'd have been sacked?
29 Aug 2026 13:06:38
We were told that under Gerrard, we had a blueprint for how the team was going to play no matter the manager.
But since then, we've given the keys to the financial Kingdom to various incumbents such as Beale, Martin & Thelwell etc who have made a rip roaring arse of recruitment.
Plenty on here also said that they couldn't wait to see what McInnes would achieve with a bigger playing budget.
We were also told that by cancelling the St Mirren game, it would give McKinney an extra week to work with the players and the fans would reap the benefit. That turned out to be an unmitigated disaster on Thursday.
29 Aug 2026 13:10:33
Water off a duck's back, Fork.
Some have blind faith.
Some live in hope.
The line, somewhere in the middle, is difficult to tread.
We need food, but we should not overeat. 🔴⚪️🔵
29 Aug 2026 13:18:23
MPH, I think Rohl was "encouraged" to move on rather than choose to. When your boss gives you the impression you're not wanted, and you have a good alternative job option, what would you do?
The problem we have now is if we sack McInnes, as we should, who is going to want to take over that mish mash of a squad.
There will be a lot of names, but again, would there be anybody of real quality and ambition wanting to risk their career managing that team for 4 months until the window opens again. They would probably make it worse by going for Ferguson again, only without McCann and Dodds this time.
29 Aug 2026 13:28:18
In a recent interview, Rohl said he was approached by RB during his holidays and offered the job. He said it was too good an opportunity to turn down, WSL.
29 Aug 2026 12:39:18
Mph, I'm over this, 'we need time' nonsense. Although McInnes tactics etc look awful, watching that first half on Thursday any of us would have made big changes first half, we now know those changes didn't work, or the changes during the game didn't work, but the question of why we used 15 players in that game and not 1 got pass marks is a more worrying question after the money we've spent.
I understand that tactics formation etc can effect players, but does it effect them to the point it makes them look like Sunday league players? I don't think so. I believe we are totally messing up recruitment yet again. How this is possible I'll never know. The manager's tactics aren't helping it.
29 Aug 2026 12:45:13
Because the issue seems to run deep within the club, and it has done for a while. Other clubs don't appear to have the same problem, which allows their managers to bring in players and get them playing the system they want.
This has been the case with every manager since Gerrard, at one point or another. A few managers have even commented publicly about these issues, only to be shot down for doing so.
I'm not saying you're wrong and I'm right, but how many times have we tried the same rinse and repeat approach, only for the same issues to happen with every manager? We have had experienced, title-winning managers as well as relatively novice coaches, yet the outcome has been pretty much the same.
If the problems are not there initially, they seem to appear whenever the pressure starts to build.
So, how about giving this manager a bit more time to see if some of the deeper issues can actually be rooted out?
We have now had five managers, five temporary managers and more than 80 players, yet we continue to see many of the same problems and the same output. Do you really think that is entirely down to poor managers and poor players, or could there be something more deep-seated within the club?
Something needs to change. That is really all I'm saying.
29 Aug 2026 14:50:00
Is this the same Motherwell who got knocked out of the League Cup the other week? And Europe?
29 Aug 2026 17:21:38
Just out of interest, Canter.
Is that the Motherwell side who got knocked out by a club ranked 29th and who got to a final last season.
Or a Czech side that was ranked 189th who beat Rangers and team that we couldn't spell, never mind had heard of before.
Or a Rangers side with a £80-90 million turnover versus:-
Motherwell - £7 million.
Freiburg - £162 million.
Jablonec - £8 million.
Aye, that's that Motherwell, Canter.
