I will back McInnes but why did Rangers not take the time to get the right manager in. McInnes will have a say in every transfer we have brought in so far so he is partly to blame for the lack of quality.

McInnes managerial career
1 trophy in what 17-20 years Callum Davidson has more.
When he was at Hearts Celtic and Rangers were honking last year and he bottled the title 1 away with in the league from 31st of Jan last season. McInnes is not a winner as a manager and that's what the majority on here have always said we need a winner. McInnes is not that and less said about his teams in Europe. That's why I didn't want him.
We are now stuck with him because the board dived in. So I will back him but I don't see him seeing out the season I am really hope I am wrong with that.

Onto Poland Thursday night with no decent wingers and a makeshift defence as the new guy won't get into Poland to play.

02 Aug 2026 14:10:30
We've tried every other manager. We're running out of profiles. We've probably binned a couple too soon as well because of fan pressure.

02 Aug 2026 14:26:43
That Polish team were 4 points off The Champions Strom. I've got the fear for Thursday night.

02 Aug 2026 14:32:21
Who's this magical manager we should have got instead, Storm?

02 Aug 2026 14:33:37
Jeez Storm, I was looking forward to the season until I read that post. Who would you have given the job to? Del needs time, and I support him. ✌️ 🇬🇧

02 Aug 2026 14:38:22
The fans believe that a Scottish manager who supports Rangers will be inherently better than anyone else. They basically demanded McInnes. However, as we've seen with the disastrous Ally McCoist appointment, it just doesn't work that way.

A foreign manager with no previous affiliation with Rangers could do a much better job. But the fans need to get that into their heads first. So we need to let this McInnes and Shankland thing play out for better or for worse.

02 Aug 2026 14:43:09
Storm, it's the recruitment team that's identifying the players, and, as EHL says, you can't force certain players to come sign for us.
Shankland was signed before DM.
McRorie was linked in January.
Neil was linked in January.
Dragojevic said he found out 3 months ago.
Pandur said he had the chance years ago, so he's been on a short list for a while.

Godfrey was linked in the past.
Devlin is the only one I would say DM has chosen first hand.

I don't think the business that's been done is bad, but it's just squad work. We need proven quality and creativity, and I blame the recruitment team for not prioritising that closer to the beginning of the window. I hope we don't start panic buying with a week to go.

02 Aug 2026 14:52:53
I think he is the right manager and we have to accept that today we're simply not very good. We are second best (at best) and will perhaps win the league 1 year in 10, probably finishing 3rd 1 year in 10 again.

We are not an attractive proposition for good players and will need to unearth a golden nugget at a young age if we want good players in the team.

If we got a good manager he would either be sacked within the season or jump ship at the first available opportunity. McInnes isn't going anywhere, he's peaked with us and will probably get the Scotland job at some point in the future, but he's not jumping ship to a better club.

He will provide stability which is the most important thing just now, the unstableness of the club must be impacting future players? You know when signing that the next manager 6 months from now might not fancy you.

We'll get a couple more players in and possibly some loans and then we'll likely finish second (which I guess is an improvement). I suspect next season we won't have as many ins and outs and we might be able to focus on quality rather than quantity.

I'm not all doom and gloom, just realistic.

Back to the point, I still believe McInnes is the right guy to stable the club over the next 2 or 3 seasons.

I also think we need to be realistic and accept the likelihood of playing in the Conference League this season, we're not prepared enough for the Europa League.

02 Aug 2026 15:03:33
DM knows and has said what we can all see. If we don't get the quality in the wide areas to create the United game will be the normal all season. Need it now.

02 Aug 2026 15:06:49
Sadly, I agree, Dado. I think we are now a club who will win the occasional title. Pains me to say that, but I believe that is the reality.

02 Aug 2026 15:09:15
Good post, Dado.

02 Aug 2026 15:12:44
Blue, exactly mate, yet McInnes is getting it for them coming. 🤣
Rohlwithcheese, do you mean a manager like Danny Rohl with no affiliation who took us to 3rd, or a Clement who was hounded out the door by impatient fans, just like exactly what's happening after 90mins of football?
Storm, who is the right manager? You've clearly written a manager off before he's begun.

02 Aug 2026 15:14:58
Won't change without stability, Sir Struth, and I tell you what we should really be worrying about, what happens when the Americans lose interest?

The club has to go back to rehab and start with the basics again. I honestly think we've done that with McInnes, hence why he's the right manager in my opinion.

02 Aug 2026 15:15:08
It wouldn't matter if we got Pep in as manager. There's always some people who still wouldn't be happy. Sometimes we need to take a step back and realise exactly where we are. There's no more of this; for every £1 they put down we'll put £5 down, the days are long gone.

We are paying decent fees and wages for players who are either not suited to the league, or are mostly bang average squad players who just don't get, or can't cope with, the demands of some, not all of, let's face it, toxic or sometimes delusional fanbase.

02 Aug 2026 15:37:25
Surely we are not blaming another manager and individual players again.

It's the people who have been running our club that have been our problem the whole time.

Manager after manager has come and failed because of the way we are run, not because they are bad managers, aye, even Martin was set up to fail, imo.

I had hope the new group would have vision and create stability at the club. 3 managers and 25 different players in 2 and a half windows, alongside 3 different football strategies, is quite frankly shocking.

Does any fan really still think it's DM or big Manny or whichever player is getting it this week that is the problem?

02 Aug 2026 15:48:22
Bb4 and blue McInnes could have said no to these guys. We have been told by ITK he knocked but 2 free transfers we lined up. So he is still partly to blame. The recruitment team are a complete and utter joke also.

Dado, I agree with most of what you say other than McInnes is the right man but he does need backed. He will get time but it will be like any other manager, if he isn't doing the biz with wins he won't be here long.

Bb4, I will give him time but I didn't want him to begin with.

I am not into must be Scottish, Rangers fan utter drivel you get off some fans. You tell me what he has done as a manager that means he should be Rangers manager? I have always said who I want/wanted as Rangers manager. I ain't saying again. It's not my fault you can't remember. It's also not after 90 mins of football he has been in Scotland for years as manager. Callum Davidson has more trophies than him at a lesser club and less years as a manager.

02 Aug 2026 15:48:32
Yes, a manager from abroad can do a much better job than a Scottish one. Gerrard wasn't Scottish, had no affiliation with us, and he was the last guy to win the league with us. How many managers have Celtic had from abroad that have delivered them league trophies over the past decade? Ange wasn't a Scottish Celtic fan.

Also, if McInnes is a good manager why doesn't he win anything? A League Cup in 2017 and a promotion from the lower leagues with Kilmarnock isn't very impressive, is it?

Danny Rohl is a Champions League winning coach, who learned his trade from the current Barcelona manager, and was head hunted by a big club after Jurgen Klopp recommended him.

I can understand why many Rangers fans think McInnes is a better managerial appointment than Rohl. Outside of Scotland, others might think we've made a massive downgrade. It's all about perspective I guess.

02 Aug 2026 16:16:28
One game in and the manager is not good enough. Give it a break, at least give him to window till he gets some quality up top. Souness, Smith, Advocate etc all struggled in first weeks until they got the players in they needed. We can all see what we need.

02 Aug 2026 16:26:46
Storm Rangers started looking for a new manager before the split, this was decided at training camp.

02 Aug 2026 16:37:42
Looking, John (as in expect to replace Rohl), or planned for when he left in the future?

02 Aug 2026 16:48:46
Rohl thought it was acceptable to finish third. He was tepid after we threw it away in the split. Any Rangers-minded manager would have fallen on their sword for that type of disaster.

02 Aug 2026 16:50:00
NuteRwc, are you actually serious? Danny Rohl, Champions League-winning coach that was head hunted by Klopp, that took us to our worst finish in years, 3rd. You can shout about Danny Rohl all day, as first club to come calling he boosted, him and the players bottled it last year, mate. Not one person is saying a foreign manager can't be better, but how many times do we try it before trying something different?
Storm, you say dm knocked back 2 signings. Do you honestly believe he had the power to knock all them back? Of course he didn't.

Storm, saying who you want as manager and reality are two completely different things. I would like Pep, but that's never going to happen. The guy you want has supposedly knocked back teams like PSV and Ajax, and also wants % of sales. You honestly think for one minute he'd even think of coming here? Not a snowball's chance in hell would he come to this basket case of a club, where managers get hounded out regularly. People need to realise where we are as a club.

02 Aug 2026 16:53:08
I don't know if he's the right man for the job or not.

But I do know he has more managerial experience than the best manager in our club's history before he got the job.

Drivel is two sided. For every "he should be Scottish and a Rangers man" there's a "he should be a proven winner".

The reality is, it doesn't matter either way at the moment. The football operation itself is something of a shambles, and whoever is in the seat has the same problems as the 5 guys before him.

We produce no players of our own. We can't attract the finished article to Scotland like we used to be able to, and our recruitment teams in the last decade have been mostly woeful.

If we brought Walter's ghost in tomorrow, that still wouldn't fix our problems. They're bigger than the man who fronts it.

02 Aug 2026 17:10:49
We were actively looking for Rohl's replacement. We knew he was leaving, as was all his back room staff dado. That was written on here by me in April, although many said Rohl was never leaving. If that were the case, why after the Celtic defeat did we meet two individuals in London?

imo only man that has the status to stabilise the club was Gerrard.

He says in an interview published today he was in fact very close to a second spell, although I believe this was before we approached Rohl.

02 Aug 2026 17:20:30
Coopersdad, that's far too sensible. Will never catch on.

02 Aug 2026 17:31:37
Cheers John, I think I vaguely remember something but so much happens on here I forget what we discussed yesterday. 😬😬

02 Aug 2026 17:41:19
Yes, I'm serious, Bb4. Danny Rohl is a Champions League winning coach. He did it as assistant manager at Bayern Munich.

While at Bayern he worked under Hansi Flick who is the current Barcelona manager. Hansi Flick actually attended some games at Sheffield Wednesday to support his friend there.

Rohl was head hunted by RB Leipzig. Ehl on this very site confirmed this. Klopp recommended, Dahl.

It's all serious and it's all true. It's also true that McInnes never really wins anything, isn't it? A League Cup back in 2017 is all he really has.

02 Aug 2026 17:48:38
Great post, gdog, summed up very well, mate.
Just for the record, anyone suggesting we hire a manager or buy a player purely because the support Rangers needs their head checked, I don't recall ever seeing a post saying we should purely for that reason.

02 Aug 2026 17:58:38
We had a multiple league winning manager, chased him out.
We had a Champions League winning player and multiple league winning player with Rangers, Arsenal and Barcelona, and won titles as a manager, even got us our only Scottish Cup of the last 20 years almost and took us to a penalty kick away from winning a Europa League.

What did we do with him, chased him out?

02 Aug 2026 18:20:09
Storm wanted StevieG. 🫣🤕🥴🤪🤪🤪

02 Aug 2026 18:46:12
If you are right, John, that is a disgraceful way to behave by the owners and the board. We were looking for a new manager before the split, so while we were still in contention and about to go into the 5 most important games of the season.

I wonder how that affected Danny Rohl? If what you say is true, it is a further example of how lacking in class the club now is.

02 Aug 2026 19:10:05
Rwc, he could be the best manager in the world, but he didn't want to be here. What's your point, mate? You're banging on about a manager that ultimately finished 3rd then left, I have no idea why you keep mentioning his credentials like it's in some way going to help.

You do understand he's no longer here? Dm has been appointed. Hans Flick, Klopp, blah blah blah, he chose to leave. Get over it, bro.

02 Aug 2026 19:44:02
He didn't knock back PSV bb4 wrong again, mate. People keep asking me who I wanted; that's who. Would you rather I made up lies to appease you and others? It was John that said Dm knocked back two free transfers that were lined up, as EHL said ages 4 had been agreed.

We signed two, so I asked about the other two, and it's the same way Martin refused players last year. If you think managers haven't got the clout to say yes or no, then you are delusional. Of course he has the power.
