Should Devlin be considered for the captains armband?
27 Jul 2026 11:54:52
I like his hunger and drive and desire to win the ball back, I believe he will be a valuable asset to us this season. But will he start every game? I'm not so sure, and for me, the club captain should be the first name on the team sheet week in week out.

I think I agree with some of the posts on earlier threads on this. I think Devlin will need a captain to get him through certain games/situations this season. So, while I love the wee man's attitude, it's a no for the captaincy for me.

I'm not sure he's disciplined enough to be captain. I don't think, not yet.
27 Jul 2026 12:16:22
Not for me, club captain should be Shankland. I'd say, after that, there would be Dan Neil, Ben Godfrey, etc. that would take the arm band before Devlin.
27 Jul 2026 12:26:22
Good thing is we have a good choice now, we've signed many players this window with leadership qualities.
27 Jul 2026 12:28:29
Captains should be someone who will play week in week out, that ain't Devlin.
27 Jul 2026 12:29:33
Gazza, spot on, as he's not disciplined enough, why he wouldn't have been McIness's captain at Hearts.
27 Jul 2026 12:30:15
If we are going to give it to first name on team sheet, surely that's not Shanklin, or do we just give Celtic the title now?
27 Jul 2026 12:53:57
Can't be Godfrey, we can't have a loanee as captain and can't be Sterling or Devlin, who will miss a lot of games for different reasons. Has to be either Shankland or Neil.
27 Jul 2026 13:26:42
Shanks will be club captain, I think.
The vice captain will be someone who will play every week. Godfrey will likely be that man.
27 Jul 2026 13:40:31
Rommens I think.
27 Jul 2026 13:46:14
I don't think Shankland will be the first name on the team sheet every week or even play every week, so it's a no from me on him being Captain. Rommens hasn't been mentioned, and he will play every week.
27 Jul 2026 13:53:03
Why would Neil be captain? What's he done 2 deserve it? The captain will be Scottish moving forward.
27 Jul 2026 13:59:29
That was my thought, Monty. Which one is most likely to play most games? Most mentioned will be rotated, I think.
27 Jul 2026 14:37:08
Bbj, I stand to be corrected mate, but I feel barring injury Cammy Devlin will have started in the vast majority of our games, no doubt about that imo. 🤔 🇬🇧
27 Jul 2026 14:40:41
Dragojevic possibly, or maybe Ferguson. 😉
27 Jul 2026 14:44:55
Shankland will be rotated a lot or won't start.
27 Jul 2026 15:52:47
Ibrox4Me, u still of the opinion Fergie is coming?
What about Dahl, mate, any news?
27 Jul 2026 16:16:51
Captain should be a starter every week. So probably the keeper is only sure starter.
However, as it is the capt who is allowed to speak to the ref, then an outfield player can be nominated game by game.
Means that any of the other candidates can be given the role. Solves the problem.
Rommens may also fall into that categorie though.
Irrespective, the choice won't please everyone.
27 Jul 2026 16:41:09
Neil is Capt.
27 Jul 2026 16:49:47
For Captain, logically have to look at someone playing almost all of almost every game, ideally, a permanent player, and one who has the kind of character that others respect and a level of professionalism that others aspire to. Devlin may be a discipline risk. Shanks may be a rotation risk. Godfrey is a loanee. To my mind, that leaves Rommens, who is surely a guaranteed starter and full of quality, and Dan Neil, who certainly seems to have been brought in as a starter and handed the No 6 jersey.
He also captained Sunderland out of the Championship and into the EPL - no mean feat - making him arguably the most successful player in our current squad. I'd be mightily surprised if it's anyone other than one of these 5.

Spot on Gazza. I love the fight he has, but he will still be like that without the armband. I see some saying Godfrey and he has impressed, but not sure he's as vocal as I'd like our captain to be.
