Angus, you actually put the idea for this post into my head, mate.
You're always talking about giving a manager time, and yes, managers do need time.
But look at Celtic with Nancy They eventually realised they weren't going to win the league with him in charge, so they made the change and brought O'Neill in for a second time this season He completely transformed their fortunes and went on to win the double.
It just goes to show that the wrong man can set you back, while the right man can turn everything around in a matter of months, just like Martin did back in January for them.
There's a valid argument and a middle ground for both theories.
Some managers need time to build something, while others show very quickly that they're not the right fit.
I think timing is the critical part. Knowing when to be patient and give someone the time they need, but also recognising when more time isn't going to be the answer.
That's probably one of the hardest decisions any football club has to make.
So maybe we can all meet in the middle and accept some mangers weren't worth the extra while perhaps some were - like Gerrard was going on to win 55.
The club went backwards and found more financial trouble down the line after he left (Not Gerrards fault)
maybe now we will see what time will give us as Derrick will get the time and he won't jump ship either
He's going to be a steady hand that's for sure.
So hopefully we can back him and we will finally see real progress going forward
Our beloved club will start
Moving forward I have no doubts about that
Angus you wil be happy - DM will 100% be given time now
Andrew Cavanagh won't budge on this
He as in DM will see out his contract
Hope he can be the manager I hoped he would be for us ?.

Our fickle fans will furbish an excuse as soon as we have a dip and label him a failure, call for his head and say he should never have been appointed.
Pretty sad, really. As we all know, there'll be naysayers and doubters.
If we want to move forward, then he needs to get time regardless of what's thought of him. He's our coach/manager, give him time. Anything else and we're back to square one.

Agree that managers need time but at the same time need to be performing. Beale, Martin and Nancy across the city absolutely shouldn't have been given more time. If we recognise it's a mistake, we can't just keep someone because we don't like sacking managers.
Average spell for managers now is probably just over a year or 2 if they're lucky, maybe, so it's not like it's a Rangers thing. It's about getting results while improving, esp here.

Fork, I feel that way right now about McInnes, he isn't inspiring me, but will be behind him 100%.
14 Jun 2026 12:48:28
Kaiser, great post mate. It's posted on here all the time, as if this is just a Rangers problem, when it happens in every league in the world with managers. You can keep sacking the wrong manager.
14 Jun 2026 11:23:29
We can all say as we like, but the truth is it's a results business. Modern football doesn't allow anyone time.
For me, McInnes is the correct appointment but nothing is guaranteed. He will need to win games of football, plain and simple.
14 Jun 2026 11:25:42
The same that they did with Rohl.
That man came in and done a 360 with what he inherited, and as soon as results don't match expectations, he's been hounded too.
I'm sad that he's gone and have no idea who the right man for the job is, but I'm glad McInnes is getting the opportunity to live out his dream.

I don't disagree with needing time, but I'll stand by this (and I've said this for years on here), sacking the managers is not the issue, making the wrong appointment time after time is the issue in my opinion.

Every manager is a gamble, but I'm interested to see what he does with a tilt towards Scottish players and a bigger budget for players. First manager we've had who, hopefully, will revert to the Walter Smith style of having a core of Scottish blended with foreigners. Curtis and Barron may feature more prominently.

Stig, I can argue with any of that. Very quickly, do you realise sometimes that the manager isn't the right fit. Nancy was that for Celtic but I do have some sympathy as the board would have known his style, and that the squad they had wasn't able to play that way. So why bring him in in the middle of the season. I always wanted to see if Martin's style could work but the players were reported to be unable to understand it.
What I am talking about though is managers like Clement and Rohl where they go on a decent run to get us into a Championship battle. Then the team go on a poor run and fans (I include the old board in that) decide that he has bottled it and needs binned. I think that is when the board need to be patient rather than scrapping it and starting again. I would rather lose the next title to allow us to win the next 3 through that patience.
I won't be any different with DK as we already know he is half decent.
As for fans, I never expect them to be patient or give any time. The same will happen with DK; first draw or loss against Killie or Falkirk and there will be disgruntlement. However, like you, I believe that the board will give him time as long as the remaining old board have no say in the matter.
I am not 100% sure on DK as I have never liked the style he has played at any club, although I could live with the Hearts style he played if I needed to. But we have tried every other type of manager, so it seems logical to go this way this time. I just hope we don't see the CB pairing of Findlay and Halkett at us soon, as we do need better than that. ?

My feeling is that we have a very experienced manager who will be backed with a strong behind the scenes team. He is a Rangers man, and I feel the importance in that is knowing the expectations and standards of the club and supporters. He has served his time and done really well at all the Scottish clubs he's managed. He talks well and was the recommendation of the great man Walter Smith.
In terms of backing the wrong manager, AC has done the business. He backed Martin until he realised it couldn't go on, then acted quickly. He backed Rohl, and it looks like we're making a considerable amount from his departure. McInnes could really be a legacy manager for many years, and it's unlikely he would be tempted away. I am actually very pleased with the new manager.

Fork, including lots on here, who will forget they wanted him appointed in the first place.
14 Jun 2026 13:20:05
Lol, correct Wsl. ?
Just a waiting game, Storm, see how he goes. ? ?
14 Jun 2026 13:26:53
The majority of Rangers fans have zero patience. Why we go trophies less, and they can't even see it.
14 Jun 2026 14:20:00
We keep winning nothing in a 2 horse race, Mystar. Fans are fed up with failure.
14 Jun 2026 14:57:15
Who's DK Angus?
14 Jun 2026 15:55:55
Storm
Derrick - DK for short. ??
14 Jun 2026 16:12:29
Storm Derek McInnes. In typing it, I forgot about the Mc as I knew you would take it. ?
Every manager has his dream job. If we appointed SG and the Liverpool job became vacant, he would be off like a shot. The Rangers job is DM's dream job. He will be there a long time.
