Ok so this is a hands up and appreciation post to Djiga.

I hold my hands up because i thought this guy was honking looked miles off it and a nervous wreck, but since afcon he's came back and for me created a great partnership with manny, just goes to show i thot i could tell a player but totally wrong on this occasion, ?we can sign him

23 Mar 2026 16:23:45
Fergie, he was honking, mate. He had a couple of flashes in Europe but RM's didn't help, as his tactics put so much pressure on the defence, it was criminal.

I don't apologise for saying a player is playing poorly, but the standards of this club require players and coaches to progress.

Well done to the lad, but that's the standard we require, and hopefully he keeps it up. We can do it this year with players like him taking responsibility and improving.

23 Mar 2026 16:27:12
Fergie, can't complain with your first thoughts, he was terrible in some of his games before he went away, all amateur mistakes, but has really impressed since returning from AFCON, but will still have mistakes in him, hopefully most go easy, I'd be trying to sign him. Looks a good partnership with Fernandez.

23 Mar 2026 16:43:03
I can't fault you in your assessment of Djiga at the beginning, Fergie, because we all thought the same, mate. ? However, Djiga has certainly shown/proved for me he's a good young centre half who will still improve, and I've also changed my mind on him, and the centre half pairing of him and Manny looks like it's a really good partnership.

? Like My star says, Djiga has been superb since after the AFCON return. ?

23 Mar 2026 17:03:45
Hold my hands up too, not just on Djiga, Fernandez too didn't impress me right at start season in the games he played. Rohl must take some credit for that, as definitely made us more solid since took over.

23 Mar 2026 17:29:05
Yes to all of the above. Martins' inept coaching style set the players back -- could go on, but Djiga, Fernandez, Moore, DR brought in quality with Rommens. Gassama and Chermiti have shown in glimpses what they have in their lockers.

Never in a million years did I feel we would go top as we will a week on Saturday. For that, the manager deserves praise in abundance. Once he gets it right, we will be a unit not to be taken lightly.

23 Mar 2026 18:14:14
I think we can all agree that Djiga was brutal for a while, but maybe, just maybe, it was playing with Souttar, I may be wrong. ?

23 Mar 2026 18:20:58
What a state the Tannadice playing surface was yesterday.

23 Mar 2026 19:00:08
Whatsmyname, as you say, shocking, but it's the same for both teams playing on it.

23 Mar 2026 19:40:57
Djiga actually started his career very well. This idea he was awful isn't quite true. Had a couple of not brilliant games after red card ban. His first game was solid. Showed then what he could and would bring.

He's been solid for more games than not. Just check out the stats. Great player.

23 Mar 2026 19:41:24
Agreed Fergie, and always nice to see you posting, mate. ??

23 Mar 2026 19:51:46
I couldn't believe the decline in him when he arrived. I was excited by his performances, as most did under Martin. He had a terrible drop off, but he's back to where he was. Very good player. ?

23 Mar 2026 19:58:28
Gdog, I agree, but wasn't going to post as the collective memory didn't seem to match mine. I thought he was raved about initially, then he made a mistake in a match and suddenly became very poor.

Glad it wasn't just me who remembers that. ?

I also remember that the defence with him in it and Souttar in it wasn't that different when it came to goals lost. Not saying another word. ?

24 Mar 2026 00:49:51
Correct, Gdog, he was and then went through a bad patch.

Laudrup, you could be onto something there, as it's hard to look good with a partner like Souttar. He has never been good enough for Rangers, never will be.

24 Mar 2026 08:17:07
Yes GDog, he started well and some great last ditch challenges. Also, playing in a back 5 didn't work for him either. Both he and Fernandez have that bombs are moment, but both will go on to have very good careers. Fernandez has better potential, as he is better on the ball and a bigger goal threat.

Over the years, Souttar has been ok, but when he arrived, I expected him to go on and become the team leader. Not surprised that he was re-signed, as we will be losing so many loans and out of contract guys. But he has work to do to regain a starting place.

24 Mar 2026 09:13:40
When you think of the pressure RM tactics put on the CBs, it didn't help. We were conceding an amazing amount of shots on goal, and I think that affected his confidence. After the cup semi at Hampden, I thought his Rangers career was bye, so kudos to the big man for coming back.

We look solid at CB positions now, and he is a huge reason we could win this league.

It's the view through the lens of a football fan.
One minute a player can be rank rotten, the next he is a world beater.
Some players will never impress fans or be taken too as their numerous errors are always fresh in the memory, no matter what.

Tav is an excellent case in point.
Some see him as a club legend.
Others see the defensive liability but appreciate he takes a very good penalty and an occasional top quality free kick.

24 Mar 2026 16:42:39
Mph and some see him as probably the best attacking FB we have had in a long time. Look at a lot of top sides and their FBs attack first and defence is secondary. Rommens did it on Saturday, got caught a few times and not one grumble from anyone. So you are right about fans opinions on players. ?
