I transport football fans every weekend and the amount of people I see so drunk they can hardly stand let alone walk is crazy to me, seeing so many last night made me wonder why people get into that state for the football, never mind it being a Thursday night and them potentially having to work the next day.
Let me just say each to their own, if you want to do it then have at it, but most of my best memories and feelings from football I can't imagine not having due to intoxication. I'm all for a couple of beers before a game for sure, but to be that drunk amazes me.
For me some of they feelings football gave will live with me forever, the high of big goals, last minute winners/equalisers to the horrendous feelings from the likes of watching Ricksen kick off then stumble and need caughtduring this tribute match.
Wondered what folk on here do for games and why

Everyone's different, I guess.

I'm of the same opinion as you, mate. Missed some games and gigs that I really wanted to see through the drink, so thought, feck that, and have remained sober at all events I go to and have done so for the last 35 years. Each to their own though.

Outwith Old Firm, I don't use the bus anymore, but even Old Firm people on my bus are very rarely legless, maybe the one.

But I'm the same. I much prefer not drinking at the games due to hangovers and having to work the next day.

I don't drink when going to see Rangers now, and I haven't for many years, as I want to see the game, dissect what went on, and remember it, i.e. especially if we win. ?

Very rarely drink going to football anymore. Very rarely sober in my younger days, to be fair, but can still remember every memorable moment from forty years ago at the games. Concrete jungle has plenty to answer for back in the day.

Don't like the hangovers any more, so nothing more than a few for me at any time. Old age. ?

I think for many guys, football is a chance for them to get a night or day out with the lads, so they overdo things.

Personally, I've never understood the need to get steaming drunk to go watch football. Each to their own, certainly, but it's just not for me.

If I go with my mates, I drink heavily. Sometimes I leave early, get a pint, and head out to catch the bus home. If I am with my boy, I will very rarely have a pint. Some of my best days watching Rangers were when I was heavily intoxicated, especially away in Europe. It's a day out with the boys for me.

I always liked a couple of beers before the game, but no more than that. I remember my big mate, when we played Manchester United, clapping the players off at halftime before he left the stadium, convinced it was full time.
More often than not, I'll drive now with my young son, so I don't have the enjoyment of a drink, but I have the enjoyment of doing with him what my father did with me.

I get it, it's a day out, and, personally, I rarely drink anymore. A few now and again, but not often. There is a guy who sits next to me (a few seats along), and he is always pissed. He gets up and down every 15 mins to go for a piss, and, apart from him missing half the game, the fact that about 20 people have to stand and sit every time he wants out makes it a tad annoying, to be honest.
He is always 10 mins late to sit at the beginning and always away for a pint or 2 prior to the end.
