Earlier on i said jelavic was best forward for Rangers in 25 years and brilliantly it caused some debate, and some people remembering were a little older than we would like to think ?
Some stats
Mols games 138. goals 48 also 13 assists
Prso games 123. goals 37 also 16 assists
Big mark H games 222 115 goals. Could not find his assists
Jelavic games 55 goals 36 and 14 assists
For me jelavic gets the edge but just for me he was the man a remember most

Mols was at a different level, Ryan. I've still never seen any footballer that can turn like he could. That knob never injured him. He could and would have played with any team in any league, mate.
04 Feb 2026 00:41:03
And the phenomenon that was Marco Negri, who scored 33 goals in his first 29 games.

Mols, before his injury, was the best striker I've seen in Scotland. The guy had everything.
After his injury, he was a shadow of his former self and was never the same, not even close. He lost his pace, explosive power, and I would even say he lost his confidence and aggression.
It's so sad to have had such a promising career and be derailed, to some extent, with injury.
I think I'm right in saying, in the year that Van Nistelrooy went to United, that Mols got player of the year. That was his level.
Of the others you mentioned, Hately was just class at doing what he did, an old fashioned target man.
Jelavic was also good, but not at that level, as could be seen by his career after Rangers.
Probably the most underrated striker we had in that time was wee Rod Wallace, who was a great wee finisher.
And we can only imagine how good Seb Rozenthal would have been. Seen him play a testimonial against Liverpool after his injury, and he was MOM, and that was with one knee!
Maybe the best of any of them, though (and I appreciate we got him in his twilight), was Caniggia.

My Star, I actually sponsored Michael Mols' home shirt at the beginning of the noughties, mate. ? What a player. ? Dick Advocaat bought him from Utrecht for 4 million pounds, an absolute bargain, and prior to his injury against Bayern Munich, it was strongly rumoured that Sir Alex Ferguson was about to bid 15 million pounds to sign him for Man United.
? I totally agree with you, mate, the outstanding Michael Mols before his injury could have played for any top club, in any of the best leagues in Europe. ? The best turner I've seen in Scottish football, bar none. ???

You never knew which way he was going to go, could pivot on either foot.
He also always played with a smile and seemed like one of the nicest guys in football.
04 Feb 2026 08:38:23
Mols' technical ability was absolutely outstanding, a quality player. He could turn on a 5 pence piece, either way too. Amazing, I wish I could see his likes again.
04 Feb 2026 08:45:27
Can't understand why Super Ally is not in this discussion.
04 Feb 2026 08:52:53
Agree with all the Mols posts, superb player.
04 Feb 2026 09:21:34
Mark Hateley, an England international that played abroad. Him and Super Ally were the best together and always will be to me.
04 Feb 2026 09:36:13
Mo Johnston ????.
04 Feb 2026 09:47:05
Jfm09, McCoist wasn't in last 25 years, though not sure why Hateley is included? Scary to think it was 30 years ago. Would be Mols, Jelavic, then Prso for me, with a wee shout out for Novo too.
04 Feb 2026 09:56:32
Super Ally and big Hateley will always be in my best team. They were a brilliant partnership, but for pure technical ability, Mols is definitely up there.
04 Feb 2026 10:12:26
Dado, as a former home shirt sponsor of Michael Mols, i met him a good few times and, as well as being an outstanding player, he was a total gentleman. ?
04 Feb 2026 10:24:49
Mols, for me. One of the best strikers I have seen.
04 Feb 2026 10:26:07
McCoist imo best poacher ever, Hateley had everything. Mols was on another level from any Rangers striker.
04 Feb 2026 10:28:17
last 25 years - Alfredo Morelos

Anyone know what really happened with Negri?
Couldn't believe the goal return by January in his first season. Something happened, black eye etc., and virtually never seen again, nor did he kick on anywhere else after that.
04 Feb 2026 11:00:50
He was reportedly hit in the eye by Sergio Porrini whilst playing squash. It caused a detached retina, I remember, and long-term vision issues.
04 Feb 2026 12:06:23
That's why I mentioned him, Kaiser, because Hately was included.
04 Feb 2026 12:23:09
Amazing to think that we got Prso on a free transfer. Such a shame that injury ended his career.
04 Feb 2026 12:31:51
I'm sure you're correct with the eye injury playing squash, Angus. The guy was a goal machine until then. I can vaguely remember he hardly had a smile when he hit the net. Shame an injury like that derailed his career.
04 Feb 2026 13:02:17
Out of that list, Hateley was the best. He had everything: pace, power, great in the air. He was a one man forward line. When his buddy SuperAlly broke his leg and was missing, Hates stepped up to be the main goal scorer, helped by the under rated Gordon Durie.
The best footballer has to be Mikey Mols, but Jelavic was brilliant too, and Big Dado was as close as we could get to Hateley.
Negri, for that half season, was an unbelievable finisher. He would have broken all records if he had kept going.
I once tried to think of the top 10 Rangers strikers I had seen, but could only narrow it down to 15! Oh, for just one of them now.
04 Feb 2026 14:01:15
As an out and out goalscorer, I'd pick Mols, as if he hadn't been badly injured he would of scored a bucket load of goals. I remember Larsson for them got a similar injury, but he bounced back stronger, and look what he went on to do. Just shows how an injury can potentially ruin a career, even if it's not a career ender.
Jelavic, for me though, is the pick for a complete do it all striker. He was able to hold it up and link play, he could conjure something out of nothing, and his finishing was sublime. Had we kept him longer, he would of made us a fortune.
04 Feb 2026 14:23:58
Durie and Mo Johnstone were the hardest working strikers I've seen, never stopped, great in the air as well with their feet.
04 Feb 2026 14:30:48
Rumour at the time was he was nipping around with porrinis wife.
Porrinis hooked him causing the eye injury. That was the rumour.
04 Feb 2026 16:21:33
Stevie, that is what I believe happened.
04 Feb 2026 16:35:31
Correct, Stevie, that's what I heard. ?
04 Feb 2026 19:28:26
Yeah lads, and I think perhaps what has happened to his form after the injury cleared up is more to do with the team mates all not being keen on him for doing what he done, which in turn affected his mood and atmosphere around him, thus causing his form to basically be zero.
Advocaat gave him a few chances, I believe, but it wasn't to be.
