I will be absolutely gobsmacked if Rangers football club allowed Sterling to train and be available for the game.

If what I'm reading on here regarding a drink driving charge.

Sorry I just can't see it. The club have in house conduct rules. And drink driving charge would be gross misconduct.

So I think for the moment whilst we're hearing Sterling will be available then no drink driving charge has been issued.

On top of that there would be welfare checks - does he have a problem
Is he fit to play. And it would bring backlash from sponsors. So no way can I see this being the case.

It's a tough one Stig? I have a feeling something ain't right? If a footballer is caught DD is it gross misconduct? I do not think so, although obviously alarming ✌️.

05 Jan 2026 21:44:53
Stig i agree with you in terms of that offence resulting in gross misconduct.

I personally at this stage do not believe it was a driving under the influence charge.

I have seen nothing official in terms of specific charges and only heard from others that it may have been driving without due care and attention.

If he was under the influence he would not be available for selection tomorrow in my opinion.

I would imagine he would be suspended pending investigation.

Stig I wish it wasn't true either mate but unfortunately it is. It will come out soon enough and the club need to deal with this idiot. Drink driving is totally unacceptable even more so for a Rangers player in the public eye ?.

05 Jan 2026 22:02:43
Stig there is the concept of innocent until proven guilty so the club need a guilty charge and conviction before they can do anything.

05 Jan 2026 22:14:38
If it was drink driving then I believe Sterling's name would be redacted til he's proven guilty of it/charged and they'd have to say it the articles that it was that too.

05 Jan 2026 22:20:41
Due to the state of the car and damage to the barriers, Cops would have had no other option than to take him to the station under caution. You can be huckled for numerous reasons these days.

05 Jan 2026 22:41:38
Rohl said he's available 2moro?? absolutely nothing to say it was drink driving. Zero! Some posters jumping the gun.

05 Jan 2026 22:43:35
Everyone knows how I feel and I don't care if he is the best player or worst player at club. If it is drink driving then he shouldn't play for our club again. It is a big IF because we don't know what it's for yet. I thought someone said it wasn't drink driving?

05 Jan 2026 23:51:52
It's not drink driving, calm down.

{Ed078's Note - never in the history of "calm down" has anyone, ever "calmed down" :)

06 Jan 2026 00:08:21
I would imagine if it were a dd offence he would have been charged and apparently at the high court on next available day. Add the media who would be all over it in a flash. Infact some outlets reported it as a dd offense without even investigating it. I'm sure some Celtic sympathising copper would have leaked it right away.

06 Jan 2026 00:34:45
Easy solution for club/Sterling, in relation to what ever happened when his car crashed is to release statement to say investigations are ongoing and will update in due course but can assure it is not related to charge of drink driving.

Why would you not want to make statement if you have not been charged with drink driving. making this clear would not jeopardise any ongoing investigation.

06 Jan 2026 05:24:15
Would/will take months to get to court.

06 Jan 2026 06:30:29
Rfc not for dd he'll be up in days mate.

06 Jan 2026 06:46:31
Angus

Be honest, if Drink Driving, judge, jury, executioner at side of road. And so far nanda. The court must still adjourned on dangerous driving charge.

06 Jan 2026 07:44:24
What a bunch of sheep. No worries if folk take this offensively but it needs called out. Not one shred of evidence the boy was drinking driving and Rangers saying he is available today doesn't suggest the club believe he was drunk but folk filling in the blanks and slaughtering a guy.

For all we know he hit a patch of black ice, or he lost control perhaps speeding or an animal on the road he dodged and smashed the car. We know nothing but got inspector gadget and co suggesting he was steaming. Get a grip.

06 Jan 2026 08:08:45
Correct My Star, he will be in court at the end of the week. Media get info direct from officers that is how they know what he is being charged with.

06 Jan 2026 08:10:04
It was a few hours post Old firm you think he was drinking in the car on his way home ?.

06 Jan 2026 08:45:52
Rangers Royal, my friend was stopped on a Sunday morning around Sep/Oct last year, he was in the dock getting his licence suspended on the wed/thurs a few days later.

06 Jan 2026 08:45:58
Star Police have 6 months to charge someone and get the case to court for Section 5 road traffic offences.

correct Ayrshire. this is similar to the Joh Souttar injury thread and how did that end up.

06 Jan 2026 09:25:30
The driver that smashed into me in Nov 2024 eventually pled guilty in August 2025 although it was drugs not drink. The case was scheduled for court Sept.

06 Jan 2026 12:17:59
There needs to be an investigation, then when that's done it gets passed to the procurator fiscal who will set a court date, certainly doesn't take days, weeks or months before it goes to court.

06 Jan 2026 12:52:30
If he was speeding and lost control and skidded on black ice into a barrier would he not still be arrested for the damage that he had caused?

06 Jan 2026 13:25:18
Boy blue and Angus, we'll he got his licence suspended a few days later and his court case months later, go ask someone that has been charged with dd as the licence is suspended rapidly.

06 Jan 2026 15:39:46
Yes, a conviction for a drink driving offence in Scotland results in a mandatory minimum driving disqualification of at least 12 months. A mere charge does not lead to an immediate ban, as the individual is presumed innocent until the case is dealt with by the court, but the conviction itself carries this automatic penalty.
