I feel once again I have been misunderstood. I think some people can't differentiate between size of institutions and current team performance.
Rangers and Celtic are huge historic institutions and no one would dare claim otherwise.
That did not stop Brendan Rodgers from running to small time Leicester at first opportunity.
It did not stop Steven Gerrard scurrying down to Aston Villa who were going through a tough stage in the middle of the night.
What I said about Kjetil is that he is working wonders with minnows, even within size comparison in Norway.
He is being noticed by large clubs even turning down Ajax Amsterdam.
By saying that, a move to Rangers was not a step up, I meant that the attraction is not that high.
Why would he move from what he has built to a team starved of success for so many years. I am being a realist.
I believe knowing Kjetil that he believes he can manage a huge club in a top 5 league and the evidence over many years shows Rangers would not be the correct move.

A manager like Knudsen could change that narrative at Rangers don't you think Asa, but I get what you are saying re big 5 clubs.
27 Aug 2025 09:32:51
You don't get it Asathor and you never will.
27 Aug 2025 09:47:57
I agree Asathor, who do you think would be a good fit as manager of rangers? Realistically someone who would also want to take the challenge.
27 Aug 2025 09:54:42
Not sure what he needs to get JFM. He's being clear in saying Knutsen has zero ties to Rangers or Scottish football. Looking at what he has built with Bodo and the options he feels he has, or will have in Europe, there is nothing in it for him by taking the Rangers role. No point joining a club with great history and historic success if they're a mess and won't offer you what you need as a coach.

JFM, of all the posters on here, I would suggest that Asathor is one that "gets it" 100%.
27 Aug 2025 10:00:39
Yes he could fork and I would love it to be the case.
27 Aug 2025 10:04:36
Sorry Asathor but I'm going to have to disagree with you on some points.
Very much missing out info there that would show reasons for leaving etc. Gerrard didn't get the backing he expected and his long term goal has always been to manage Liverpool. By going to Villa and being successful that would have taken him a leap closer to that job because he done it in the EPL.
Knutsen I don't believe will go to a top club in a top 5 league. He'll go to a mid table club in a top 5 league or a top club in a league like Portugal, Turkey, etc. I don't see a top team from a top 5 league taking a punt on a manager from a league of minnows.
Bodo have punched above their weight for years but that is doing it with one team he's had years to build in his image as well. He's not going to get that time at a Chelsea, Newcastle, etc. I can see him going to a club like PSV, Brighton, Lazio, Porto before anything like a top club in a top 5 league.
27 Aug 2025 10:09:44
Would agree with that ASA.
Think Kjetil has earned the right to leapfrog the step Rangers would provide toward a job in the big 5 leagues. If indeed he has an appetite to switch it all up.
Is he a one man club though? Is he risk averse? Nothing wrong with staying in Norway and helping to build an institution of their own.

Bonzo I believe Rangers is a very attractive club and we're Kjetil not currently with a club i believe he would be a great fit and jump at the chance.
I would say there are many managers that would take the challenge.
For example Marco Rose i believe he would take the challenge as he did with Salzburg.
Danny Rohl is a young manager with a point to prove
Jess Thorup is an astute manager.
Jakob Paulson is a very talented coach just waiting for an opportunity.
Steven Gerrard I believe may want to prove his doubters wrong.

I agree with this Asa but it's not what you said earlier mate and u was digging you on case you thought I was.
27 Aug 2025 10:19:06
Ayrshire you may be right my friend but I can confirm that he was interviewed for the Dortmund job.
They went for someone else but that has only reinforced his beliefs.
27 Aug 2025 10:22:24
Cheers bud??.
27 Aug 2025 10:37:55
Easier to stay at Bodo Asa. Pastures new may not be as productive. New pasture may be developmental but not successful. Personally I don't care as he won't be Rangers manager. We are not an attractive proposition unfortunately. That's the reality.
27 Aug 2025 10:44:53
Dothebouncy you are welcome to that opinion. I'm sure you think Asathor who has followed Rangers for about 20 years gets the magnitude of the size of Rangers more than supporters who have followed the club through thick and thin for more than 50 years and longer for some. If he did get it yhe way you say he would not be comparing our club to a club from a small league who have done well for a few years. There is no comparison. That's my opinion on it.
27 Aug 2025 10:51:01
Asa I do understand the difference between size of institution and current form.
However managers moving to EPL clubs do so because the want to manage in one of the top 5 leagues and that is more attractive than staying at Rangers or Celtic, whatever people here think of the size of the clubs involved. even if they are a team who is mid table it still allows a manager to pit their style against the teams at the top at least twice a season. that is attractive and then gies them the opportunity to take the next step up if they succeed at elast even partially there; Thomas Frank beign a perfect example.
the attraction to Knutsen would be to do with Rangers what he has achieved at Bodo but with a bigger budget and greater expectation on him. There may be interest in him from top 5 leagues but I doubt it will be at the top table within those leagues so to turn a basket case like our club is currently around would increase hwo attractive he is to those leagues.
At the moment he is doing a version of what we have done recently by performing in the league as expected by the team's budget and perhaps over-performing in Europe. by doing that none of our previous managers were hunted by top teams to be their manager. the closest we have got is GvB as assistant at Liverpool and Gerrard obviously.
The question is will anyone see enough with what he does at Bodo to give him that chance in a top 5 league. he might need another stepping stone such as he was offered at Ajax to get him that chance.
27 Aug 2025 11:07:02
Asa mate u took a swipe at the apparent "snobbery", because some like your managers but then say they're too good for Scottish football. Pretty snobby. ?.
27 Aug 2025 12:00:19
I agree with some points Asa as with Rodgers/ SG, the lure of the EPL and the cash being offered will always lure those managers away not just from minnow leagues may I add.
The point I don't agree with is Rangers not being a high enough attraction.
We have a huge club, huge fan base (impatient for sure) new owners, the ability to overturn Celtic and be worshipped for it.
That being said I do believe he will go directly to a top 5 league as that boat has sailed for us.
27 Aug 2025 12:08:49
Angus sorry but what does Rangers bring that he isn't getting now. chance to play in europe, have to win every single game or else you are a loser, pressure from fans booing your team off for any single error. SG left before he was sacked, we sacked GvB and i am sure he is more than happy to be no 2 at Liverpool, indeed seeing him on tv the other night he looked happy and stress free compared to his times at rangers.
we are constantly in a state of flux, rebuild after rebuild, not having money to spend, not getting time to change etc etc.
