Just been catching up on the highlights from the Middlesborough game, I know it's dangerous to make judgements from them, but young Fernandez's body language does not inspire me with much confidence at all, looks disinterested and his lack of urgency in his play is quite alarming from what I've seen so far.
The boy must have something about him to be signed, but he needs to show much more and quick. Not trying to jump on him here, just an observation of what I've seen so far, which isn't much so might be too early to be critical.

Very hard to judge in a second string game, think any of our CBs would of looked a bit iffy in that game, much better when subs came on to be fair.

He needed experience around him and the defence as a whole looked flung together, which it was. I think he has the attributes to be developed and will be good cover.

I'd say almost pointless to try gauge players in that line up. The set up, timing of the fixture resulted in us gaining one thing - game time in legs.

Agree it's very early days and I'm not writing him off as he does look like he has something about him but would love for him to show a bit more urgency and look like he wants to be there as some of his play that was shown like running back to defend etc looked the opposite.
I just hope he realises who he has signed for and doesn't let this pass him by. I fear it may be a bit too much for him to handle at this stage of his career, he's going to need be managed carefully I think with the minutes he gets this season and plays against. I want him to succeed as I do with all our players new and old.

Portg I think the manager made a mistake with the Boro game. The three at the back new system. If you know what your doing in a system it gives you the confidence to be able to get stuck in and play. Can't judge on that, bit disappointed RM did that to the youngsters.

Van dyk would look bad in a back 3 with Hutton and jefte leaving him alone most of the time. When tav arrons an djiga came on the big lad looked great.

You can't judge a player from the 9 minutes of highlights can you? if you can then the recruitment team say they have a job for you. ??

Angus I'm well aware you can't judge a player off a 9 minute highlight reel. Not sure what your on about with the recruitment team having a job for me or how that's relevant ? I clearly stated I'm not making a judgement on him at all, I'm not writing him off or anything of the sort. I've not seen enough of him to do so however that doesn't stop me from commenting on what I've seen so far. It's a personal opinion not fact. As i stated previously I want him to succeed as I do with all our players.

He had two players next to him playing out of position give the guy a break and it's a friendly. Why not look to the positives of the game instead of negatives?

A must be watching a different player thought the boy done fine considering circumstances in a back 3 with jefte Hutton a midfield that wasn't exactly setting the Heather alight. To many on here judge without thinking through the reasons, seen many posts slating dessers, did he even get a pass to him the full first half? If he did it wasn't many, what is he supposed to do with no service? I don't get it.

Thought the lad done well considering he's just moved up from a tiny stadium to ours. He made a few mistakes but there's a player there, made a few great tackles and seems very physical. Folk just love to moan.

I also thought Fernandez looked pretty decent especially after 60mins, judging him the way we were set up first half is a little harsh.

Portglasgow you say you aren't judging but then say from those 9 minutes you think his body language didn't inspire you with confidence, he looks disinterested and his lack of urgency in play is quite alarming. that sounds pretty much like a judgement to me. and all from 9 minutes of highlights. the experts need months and months of analysis to reach a judgement hence recruitment team looking for someone who can do it in 9 minutes.

I'm not writing the guy off Angus, all I mentioned was that his body language disnt inspire me with confidence from what I've seen there. Not once have I said he's not good enough for us it was just an observation that stood out from what I saw. I didn't see the whole game I'm not criticising his play in general. I just thought he looked too laid back in that instance when running back to our own goal to defend. Il just make it clear that I want the boy to succeed here as much as every other player! I'm not trying to criticise him or anybody else so I apologise if that's how it's come across. We all need to calm down a bit and save our energy to help the team over the line in the 2ng leg!

Port I am being pedantic and know you weren't criticising. just pointing out you said you weren't judging but you then judged that is all. I didn't see all the game but he looked okay in the 2nd half or the part of it I saw. we need to remember he came from lower level and was playing against a Championship team. he is probably more a development sort of player but a level above where Nsiala was playing so will need time to get there.
