Seen a lot of negativity towards Fernandez on social media because of his pass that led to the equaliser today but feel it's a bit much. Nothing on here I might add slagging him off.
But I do feel that Kelly made a poor decision as well which made the chance a much easier goal for the Barnsley attacker.
Not overly concerned by the goal being conceded as there would have been fatigue in the players which won't be present Vs Pana in a week and a half. The good thing is I think from what I've seen (brugge game and today's highlights) we look like we have more control on the ball and the press looks good. Starting to see distinctive patterns in the attacks as well.
I'm confident we'll be ready to go and look forward to seeing us back in competitive action soon. The summer has felt empty without the footy.

Martins side play very very high. We will lose a good few goals this way.
12 Jul 2025 23:11:12
Mani is a development player who is going to make a lot of mistakes - my worry is that we're not club that's conducive with development.
Across the 3 friendlies there's been brief spells where we controlled the ball - but they've been very brief. Technically we struggle to retain possession while playing at speed, hence why we always seem to slow the game down.
It's going to take time to change the DNA of the side.

As I've said on another post i don't think we've improved the defence enough considering it was the weakest point last season. Fernandes will be learning and djiga won't be finished article either then you are left with tav souttar jefte and butland who all make regular mistakes. Coupled with playing a high line is risky. But hopefully we kill games off more with better attack.
12 Jul 2025 23:55:25
EHL if things are so similar is style to PC as u suggested before then why should it take that long to change the DNA of the club?
13 Jul 2025 00:23:45
Am little worried about the defence also still left wing.
13 Jul 2025 06:18:49
Of course it's going to take a wee bit of time regarding the new style of play Russell Martin is implementing he wants his team to play ?I agree with EHL, that young centre half fernandez is a development player and will take time with a bit of patience needed.
Again this is another reason i hope we can eventually sign conor coady because he ticks every box for me and imo would be a very good pairing with him and big soapy and of course if we at times play 3 at the back it could be souttar, coady and djiga ?
Ryan, i'm more concerned about getting a couple of right wingers signed mate, as we already have cortes and it's now looking very likely we'll have gassama, who both play on the left wing. I would love us to somehow be able to sign brooks on loan for the right wing and if not him sakyi from crystal palace on loan, there's also the hull city right winger kamara that we're allegedly showing interest in ?.
13 Jul 2025 06:59:00
At the moment our defence seems even weaker than last year, just my opinion and appreciate its only a couple of bounce games. But any SPL team far less European looking at that goal yesterday, will be rubbing their hands, that to me was primary school football, leaving things wide open at the back and goalkeeper 30 yards out of his goal. oh boy!
13 Jul 2025 07:50:46
Ayrshire I think that is the issue. fans don't expect players to ever make a mistake and that includes mis-passes. that is impossible so the start point is not achievable. then couple that with the fact that fans think they know how to set a team up in formation and who the best players are for each position and you have a recipe for disaster.
so the style of play and players will;l take time to develop. we need to accept this and let it happen as quickly as it possibly can. Like EHL I don't think it is in our fans DNA to do that.
13 Jul 2025 07:53:16
Ehl do u know why Martin and Josh Barrie refer to two games against tns one on the Saturday one on the Monday.
13 Jul 2025 08:04:30
EHL, for the most part, we have quite a young team. I would hope the younger lads would be able to adapt quickly.
That said agree it will take time and a few transfer windows to get the right players in and also the right ones out.
13 Jul 2025 08:26:52
We were warned about the boy from Peterborough by their fans and we were told it's them been bitter but we will just need to see who the season goes this year. I am not expecting miracles but players and managers don't get time at ibrox.

Sws. Already been said several times gassama can play both sides.
13 Jul 2025 08:36:19
Kaiser, because we have a core squad of players who are comfortable playing one way and as a club we want to play another.
Therefore we need to move player out and replace them - which Clement failed to do.
Then we can start to implement a new way of playing - which takes time.
13 Jul 2025 09:26:48
Angus do you think we have improved the defence? Or do you think they are capable of playing a high line? Tav is incapable of defending period. The new guys nobody knows yet. But trying to teach butland and tav especially a new way of playing i doubt will sink in with them. One of the new guys is a loan and will go back. Souttar has a year left. So next season you are left with the prospect of a new backline again. Its absolutely essential we sign another top centre back who will be there going forward the next few years.
13 Jul 2025 10:04:26
Correct Storm, and good post Dado.
And we were also told about the high line and the level of risk at the back his teams take.
I didn't watch much of Southampton last season but have watched interviews with ex players commenting how risky it was at times.
It's obviously going to take a bit of time not just implementing that style but also pretty much getting a new back line to play that way.
13 Jul 2025 10:20:32
Fernandez is 23 hardly a boy relatively speaking.
Not sure how he will be developed given the pressure of playing for Gers. If he's not a 1st team pick. Where and how will he develop unless he goes out on loan?
13 Jul 2025 10:32:05
Dado I think we are 3 friendlies into a new manager, new players and a new style of play. we have to change our entire team annually anyway as the last manager has been sacked so what difference will we have next season. Martin needs time and he knows he needs more to play the way he wants; Clement seems to have had the same problem. Souttar needs to be taught the new style as well as do Jefte, Yilmaz etc but just pick on the players you don't like.
Last season at Southampton he was trying to play a high line at bottom of league with a team who successfully played it the year before. the difference was they didn't have the same level of possession and teams were on top of them early.
so yes we need some further players to play the style effectively and we also need to give the already here time to get used to it. let's give them at least 4 friendlies ?.
{Ed001's Note - it wasn't a high line that cost them, it was playing it around at the back and constantly giving it away easily. Teams never even needed to press them, they could just wait to be gifted the ball.}
13 Jul 2025 11:02:27
Im not picking on them mate i named the older players who are less likely to be receptive to this style and having watched them for years. Souttar is ok with the ball at his feet and can carry it. Jefte and fernandes are younger with scope to grow. i'm not writing the whole thing off based on a friendly. Just discussion. I forgot aarons too another loan so next season will be learning again rather than consistency. Definitely need to add more but martin said he isn't so you can understand its a concern in that area.
13 Jul 2025 11:22:36
I think part of problem is closed doors games players might not.
13 Jul 2025 11:23:55
I think part of the problem might be the closed doors games some players might not get up for it the same as a game in front of fans.
13 Jul 2025 11:28:22
Said countless times having least skillfull players in your team at back trying to outplay opposition most skillfull quick forwards is madness
Playing out from back madness
Arsenal can't make it work lol what chance have we got costs you more goalsand giving up chances than it creates.
13 Jul 2025 11:36:18
Sorry but arsenal and others had problems playing out from back our team is less skillfull playing out from back madness and its a fad
Everyone always copies the big teams because they want you all to play the same way as it means it improves thier own chances you don't get shocks anymore because of this.
Football was better when teams used diff tactics they all seem to play a variation of 433 now.
{Ed001's Note - Arsenal never had problems playing out from the back.}
13 Jul 2025 13:33:46
Dado we need to get to the stage where we are just replacing one or two every year though. also I could counter that experienced player could learn it more quickly. Our back line passing success rate is somewhere between 80-90% at the moment; Butland only 78%. The difference will be that they do it at the pace required if a team choose to close them down quickly. difference in quality though in EPL and SPFL opposition. It wlll need time and by sound of it a few further additions. it does need time though.
13 Jul 2025 13:35:07
Correct ED.
Think it was McCoist and Danny Murphy mentioned that the way they played it out from the back was kamikaze stuff at times.
Buckle up guys!
