Sure we can all talk about Tavs fitness and his ability to get back when teams attack but it's his passing ability which causes me great concern, I think he gives the ball away far too easily and his insistence to stroll over to take throw ins and corners which immediately stops any forward impact we have must end surely RM must see this.

We all know Tavs time has come and its definitely time to move on.
If Martin doesn't bench Tav (if not sold or moved on) then maybe Martin is not the man for the job.
Tav has been a liability for a while at RB.
had a few decent games at CB to be fair but not what we need.

So far today he doesn't know what it means to be a Rangers captain and doesn't get being a Rangers player (whatever that means), he's not fit enough, can't pass (assists over his 10 years would tell you different) and walks to slowly to take corners and throw ins.
Can't we not just accept he's a 33 year old attacking full back that's at the end point in his career. If you want a different rb for the start of the season that's fine, i'm sure 99% of fans do. but now he doesn't take corners kicks or throw ins quickly enough. i'm going to be perfectly honest i don't notice a difference in speed, running to take corners or throw ins between tavernier, jefte, ridvan, hagi or any other professional footballer i've ever watched.

BT his passing success rate is 80% and he made 77 key passes last season. only 2 seasons ago was his pass success rate better (81%) and in every other year less or about the same. so the stats don't back up that story of his passing being poor. using Raskin as an example (popular player) he was 86% accurate (6 more passes every 100) and 38 key passes. so narrative isn't correct IMO.
also every manager we have had has seen the corner and throw in thing and none have seen the need to sort it. he took the corners as he had the best ball delivery in the team. so managers have him taking set pieces as part of their game plan. only fans have an issue with it.

Ally and that is why every Rangers manager will fail: If they pick players, formations or subs which the fans don't agree with then he isn't the right manager especially if he is losing or drawing matches.
Tav agree 100% good post. Just that at 33 he has at least another 6-7 years in him and being slow in defence isn't an issue really. or is that just for Conor Coady ?.

I think tav is also at the end of his career but you can not deny he's been some player for us over the years.
18 Jun 2025 14:12:15
Tavs been a great servant of our club.
But its time to see him fazed out. Perhaps some would argue, long overdue.
Yes he's slower now and for me his short passing has never really been that great, he's better at crossing and the ball over top. Hence his insane assist stats.
Id keep him in the squad this season he can still be useful imo.
He's still our captain.
And hey whenever he goes, apart from lack of titles, just imagine what his highlight reel will be like, unbelievable.
What a journey the man's had. From the lower leagues to title 55 and Europa final.
All in All James James Tavernier has been a fantastic signing. And whatever happens when he leaves or retires I will remember him fondly.

Angus I prefer to watch with my eyes than passing stats and tavs is horrendous.
18 Jun 2025 14:54:30
Angus, I agree 100% mate, some of our fan base has become toxic, I said in another post, it's a miracle ANY Manager wants to come to us, we need to let RM and his Staff get on with the job that real business men have entrusted him with, otherwise we're screwed as a Club,
18 Jun 2025 15:34:42
Lets do a bit of reading between the lines here, our prime signing candidate is a right back, Max Aarons. If/ when he signs for the club, there isn't a place in the team for Tav, although there may be a seat on the bench if he wants or is given it. My thinking is that he would want to play and may make a move, albeit in the mid-season window.
18 Jun 2025 15:36:24
You forgot to mention Davy Weir Angus.
18 Jun 2025 15:54:46
Ally it's strange because yav has been on the decline since Gio imo yet gio then Mb PC and Barry all played him. Is it as basic that we are not paying a guy 30k and not playing him or that his stats show something diff? A statement I was interested in was we conceded more shots on our goal from mistakes by Tav than any other player last season! .
18 Jun 2025 16:03:22
Tab has gained circa 12 in wages from us, he has been well rewarded.
18 Jun 2025 16:37:44
Angus, i am not telling the manager what way to play or whatever but Tav has got a load of managers sacked.
People can go on about Tavs previous history of passing and scoring but he doesn't do that now so he cannot stay in the team based on previous "success".
If we do sign a RB and Tav is benched then surely he cannot remain captain either.
Tav needs to be moved on otherwise the hate from the fans will build more and more.
Most fan bases are toxic when you look for the toxicity.
Look at Celtic haha they lost one trophy and they want Brenda sacked haha.
18 Jun 2025 16:45:15
Ah Storm you never disapppoint. the old my eyes see misplaced passes that the statisticians miss. there is no interpretation or context involved in these stats; they can't be falsified; they are the same in every website I looked at so we are talking multiple stas men all getting this wrong so your eyes are right. It woudl be funny if it weren't so predictable. can I ask if your eyes see raskin only making 6 more passes per 100 than Tavs.
18 Jun 2025 17:55:24
James tavernier has not got any managers sacked what on earth does that mean. Did raskin get beale sacked? did dessers get clement sacked? why is it tavernier individually who has got these managers sacked all by himself. such a stupid argument, he's been one of our best players for years and has declined last season which is to be expected. We all know he's not the best defender, but every manager has played him, season before last 24 goals, before that 18 goals, 18 goals before that as well and it goes on. How you can hold someone responsible for every manager that has come and gone with those numbers is baffling. If we had players in every position that were as good as tavernier was over the years we would have been more successful.
