With Bilboa looking likely to go out now I thought I'd just give a run down of how our Europa League Qualifiers can go at the start of next season. It's one of these topics that has come up in my line of work a lot so have got to see it evolve over the past few years.
It looks likely we will be going into the League Path Second Qualifying Round as a seeded team. Where we will be playing either Brann or the team that finishes 2nd in the Czech, Swiss, Austrian or Greek league.
If we were to Win, we would move to the League Path Third Qualifying Round of the Champions League, where the loser of the tie gains direct qualification to the Europa League League Phase. We would need to also play in the Playoff round before gaining direct qualification to the Champions League League Phase.
If we were to Lose our Second Qualifying Round game we would enter the Europa League Third Qualifying Round. To progress to the Europa League League Phase from here we would have to win the Third Qualifying Round tie and a Playoff tie. If we were to lose from here, we would drop into the Conference League Playoff Round to try and get into the Conference League Phase. This phase already has Newcastle confirmed as a potential opponent and will include some of the 6th places teams from the top 5 nations.

Just posted similar info Shug??.

Fingers crossed we avoid getting drawn against SK Brann and meet them in the actual league stage and we can all head over to Asa's gaff for a big party.

Is this a copy and paste job? Newcastle currently sitting 3rd and in Champions league spots?

Shug
If buts mate.

Ah sorry Paul I did mess that up. Currently they have qualified for the Conference League Playoff due to winning the English League Cup, but you are correct that this will change.

Excellent post shug.

It's absoloutly crazy how we can be without European football next season in regards to how well we have done over last few years. Unfortunatly it's going to get worse in years to come unless other spl teams actualy qaulify and add co efficient points.

Davie, other SPL teams will never add coefficient points, it's the same every year IMO the standard of teams like Dundee Utd and ST Mirren are akin to the Welsh or English 3rd division leagues, I wonder why they even bother to play in Europe.
02 May 2025 13:59:39
Exactly Davie, is mental. I think Scotlands "best" coefficient year of the past 5 years is about to drop off the calculation so may well be worse before it gets better.
The situation from other clubs not providing coefficient points is also poor. So many opportunities lost to teams that should be well below their level. Even Hearts, who have qualified for the Group/ League stage for the past 2 years haven't been able to make it to knockout football. Just not good enough.

Sounds good three cheers??.

Cheers for that shug, was freaking out at the thought of losing one game and that was it. Always thought it couldn't be right. Those greedy barstewards at uefa are killing European football. Thought the atmosphere at the arsenal game was atrocious.

Fork Scottish coefficient confirmed that it is 3rd round Europa we would drop down to.

I know I posted that ⬇️⬇️ down there.

What happens the next season when we lift the European cup at end of next season.

We actually put on more points as a country this year (9.250) than we will lose next year (8.5). Issue is that other countries are gaining more points; every club above us and even Poland below us but they also lose less points for the year that drops off.
worse news is that 5 years ago we got 15 points (with 19.25 this season) so we need to continue having good seasons otherwise as a club we suffer in the rankings.
